I don't have much to bring to the table, I knew there was a Bible "fandom" for years due to the fanfiction (was previously mentioned, also c'mon, The Divine Comedy is the OG Bible fanfic) and fan-art, Sonic Christian fan-art notwithstanding. Always thought it was odd, but if it helped people understand the Bible a little better (or at least showed they were not afraid to be open about their faith) and inspired them in their art to where they would then make commissions for churches, then it was harmless.

Mind you, I found out about this in high school, didn't think much of it at the time because I was still a fledgling on the Internet. I'm honestly thanking my lucky stars this level of Zoomer ignorance wasn't around then--or at least I didn't run into them back in the day.

But this does remind me of this one Jesus fan-art I had fav'd a long time ago because I thought it was amusing. This predates the MCU by a good couple years, so I can't imagine what a superhero Jesus fan-art would look now.

I've heard it said that the modern depiction of Jesus as a long haired man with a beard is thought to be Christ in the likeness of Cesare Borgia. Don't know how true that is but it sounds like something the Borgias would've done.

Now that you say it and I take a second look... I believe you're for the most part right, but there can be overlap between the two. But looking at what is shown in the OP thread, I have to say I think you're for the most part right.
The art 'offends' my sensibilities' ever so slightly if I was thin skinned. But it does look like the art would be made by young 13-15 year old autists.

It's astonishing how the bible has such a toxic fandom of people who don't have enough reading comprehension on what these testaments mean. They turn to such con mans who claim to be prophets and scream in joy over phrases such as "The power and love of Jesus is within you" or something like that which is why some people who claim to be Jesus have thousands of disciples. It's more wise to observe the world around you and find connections to said literature than it is to blindly trust said people.

If you go looking through the posts of these people you'll rarely find anything THAT wrong with them. They often emphasize the "love and compassion" parts of Jesus, or look for a more human angle of him a la Jesus Christ Superstar.

To me it reads rather inoffensive if not a little silly. I do think these people are actually more likely to come from religious families and trying to reconcile their new more woke beliefs with a big part of their life. I come from a majority catholic country and people who don't become edgy atheists frequently engage in this behavior. Probably because it feels safer to do so away from organized religion.

Other than that, interpretation and representation of these stories has always been a thing people do. Bible fanart has always been a thing, it's just that people who did it used to be classically trained + cripplingly afraid of going to hell.

Now they just have digital art tablets and are afraid of le big bad bigots who are going to kill them.

If you're right in that regard, God is interpreted in different ways but even then those representations feel more genuine (you know, from people who actually read the Bible, go to church and respect the values of their religion) and not what whatever the crazy fandoms do who treat God not as what he is, but as a fun fictional character to whom they can put all the changes they want.
There is more spiritual value and respect for God in works like "pieta" or a painting of "Christ descending from the cross" than whatever these people do with their truly autistic fanarts.
There are many false believers out there who only humiliate their religion and its followers to look good with the current "woke" thoughts and not be branded as a "crazy religious conservative", this feels the same as people who pretend to be Jewish.

The most inoffensive true gay art you will encounter is bara (reenforcing the "/fit/ is gay" meme) while at the other end of the spectrum you'll find the most foul fetishes that are generally male-dominated (furry, body odor, diapers, scat). I would say the most obvious difference is the presence or absence of tranny self-insertion (mastectomy scars, pride flags, etc.).
