It's honestly something about the Farms that has always puzzled me: Farmers see nothing wrong with going super invasive on archiving a cow's entire online footprint, they dig up pictures of them as kids, dox their whole family tree through Facebook, dox their hotel room they decamped to by matching the bedsheets against every other hotel in the county, they write weird anti-fan fiction about what a given cow looks like nude, and blame the cows for making them do this by making their content available in the first place. It's why I referred to this place as a stalker forum for a long time.

Spoiler: history lesson

"Degenerate Art" ["entartete Kunst"] is a natsoc term adopted ca. 1920 to describe modern art. Degenerate Art was also the title of a 1937 art exhibit in Munich set up by the NSDAP featuring a bunch of modern art that had been seized from other museums. Degenerate Art presented the purloined works to hang in a wall-of-shame style gallery and would compare the artwork to graffiti and artworks by institutionalized mental patients. The purpose of this exhibit was to inflame public opinion against modernism. The Germans basically only liked art that was white (I mean literally, like white marble sculptures), had a "classical" look, and depicted what the NSDAP identified as "German values" (e.g. of racial purity, militarism, and obedience.)

The private is public these days, and there's a lot of information about everyone that is technically 'public' (in the sense of being accessible on the clearnet) but that most reasonable people would consider private information. There are certain people (potentially, though not necessarily from KF) who were willing to invest a lot of time and effort finding things I wrote, photos of me, and archiving them here and to ED.

Some examples include: posting my college-application art portfolio and every handmade Halloween costume I made in high school. Posting photos of me at age 13 and 14 from a defunct MySpace account. Doxing my immediate family and then figuring out the birth order and age interval between me and my sister. Posting photos about my sister and thirst-posting about her, which was creepy af.

For awhile the people behind the ED page were harassing an English professor who works at Ole Miss because we share a the same first and last name. Baphomet finally figured out I was behind Cernowatch because they mined leaked data from Patreon that had been obtained by hacking. There is some incorrect speculation in this thread (circa pg 20? maybe) about an "annabelleleigh" user was taken from (private) CWCki donor data, which I only mention to say that it's about 70% inaccurate and attributes some actions taken by an "annabelleleigh" to my "annabelleleigh" (Because more than one person on the internet has read fucking Lolita, wow)

All of this started in response to critical things I had written about /baphomet/, which was a script kiddie forum, and then it got worse after I wrote one article about Kiwi Farms for NY Mag. The thread exists basically in retaliation for me writing true things about the trolls which they didn't want published.

I'm also certain these people abuse online voter registration lookup to dox their targets, because it usually yields an address if you query a target name, DOB, and state of residence. This last one is technically identity theft, but Kiwi Farms doesn't really get the difference between documenting a cow's unforced errors (like telling this thread I eat ass occasionally) and accepting the fruit of the poison tree. Here, all data on a cow is just data, no matter how it was collected, and so long as Kiwi Farms isn't directly involved in cow-tipping or gayops, the community accepts it.

I can't speak to the "it's always your fault for posting" bit, but I'm pretty sure any and all non-KF activity is frowned upon in the vast majority of areas on the site including this one. And, while it's true that if you're posting stuff and you have a thread people are going to use it as content for discussion, the list of people I can think of that in any way can be described as "deserving" anything more than what the site is for as far as I'm aware - people-watching and discussion for entertainment purposes - is very short and has a specific section called Animal Control that houses the majority of them.

I think it's dismaying when information that you were told would be kept private by a 3rd party is leaked (@Lemmingwiser KYS), but there's nuance on whether it's right or wrong to use leaks and hacks in reportage or for shitposting on a gossip site.

If a community like KF decides you're a cow, at least some of them are willing to utilize the same techniques identity thieves do to dig up more hot tea. Cows are sorta-kinda public figures, but only to the weird insular community that's into them. I'm like an inverse cow; I became noteworthy to Kiwi Farmers because I'd written critical things about them in the capital-P press. The thing that makes me a cow is that the trolls got butthurt when I blogged and reported on what they were up to.

News agencies will use leaks and hacks to report on a newsworthy story, key word being newsworthy. The idea is that the public benefit to making the information available > the source's expectation of privacy/journalistic courtesy/etc. Hackers do what they do for money, and the information dumps of customer data from Patreon isn't done in the public interest, it's done for the benefit of scammers. Trolls just do this for fun, and it's fun for them at the cow's expense.

I would occasionally get creepy emails from people using Josh's (potentially defunct) email forwarding service, and sometimes the Baphomet version of the same, which would send emails from a domain called "@cumallover.me". I used to carp about these because it seems like there's no other use for lolcow email except to send anonymous messages from email addresses with deceptive or profane domain names. The messages weren't that menacing - I recall one message just said "you molest children". I got one that was signed by someone claiming to be Dyn threatening to stab me in a park, though, and that was a little unsettling even though it wasn't detailed enough to be actionable. I can't say for sure that those people sending those emails were from KF, but they're part of its extended universe because they clearly knew what lolcow email was and how to use it, and the emails mostly arrived in the two weeks after I published that 2016 article.
