There is a fanfiction I keep thinking about. It's not shocking, like the other stuff in this thread. It's not about some real ass people or some fucked up fetish. But I think it sticks with me because it's a sort of time capsule, or a documentation of a mental parasite. A showcase of an author starting out with a solid idea, and then letting the brainworms of tumblr politics infect their own story.
It starts out well enough. A homestuck fanfic, where a lusus decides to raise a human being. (To anyone that has not read homestuck and does not care, trolls are the aliens of the comic, and lusus are big alien animals that raise trolls instead of a normal parent/child relationship.) And in the beginning it feels like it's going to stay that way.
But slowly, the cracks start emerging. Oh, the trolls, who live by a species wide eugenic system, think human racism is stupid! Oh, the human that is racist against the trolls appearing in a school play is off her meds! You slowly start seeing this happening. A genocidal alien society slowly trying to deal with their own system and the smaller species under it is transformed into a black and white allegory for racism, with humans being put in the worse light despite all logic.
And then comes the MAGA chapter. Which was funny, because it was written right after the election. It's so drenched in that time period. So stupid in every way imaginable.
The story never recovers. It eventually devolves into a story about rayciss whyte folk trying to keep innocent bipoc families apart like fascists. Love is love!
And it all culminates in this Roe V Wade ass trial where the crocodile is put on trial in the stupidest scenes imaginable. With this puppy kicking senator who was brought to life from the mind of the most neurotic california wine mom in history trying to take the daughter away from the crocodile and back to the mother who abandoned her, or the father who abused her, because... he needs to protect the nuclear family?
I think about the story this could have been, if the writer never went on tumblr. We never got that story, and we never will.
