>tfw a remaster of a 20 year old Game Boy Advance game is doing better in sales than you

So far this gen the PS5 has:
-barely released any exclusive games despite the PS5 being out for over three years
-had several PS4/5 games ported to the PC with more on the way (Horizon FW and Until Dawn)
-jacked up the price on the PS Paywall scam without offering any incentive to do so
-reported that they lost over 2 million subscribers in 2022 and stopped reporting numbers after that, meaning that they've clearly lost many more subs since then.
-remastered The Last of Us yet again this time for $70
-the only major releases they had in 2023 were Spider Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI, and both games are considered massive disappointments due to one game that was clearly made just to push a woke agenda and alienate the fans and the other was just a painfully bland and mediocre game, and both of which seem to have greatly undersold to expectations which lead to Square Enix renegotiating their contract with Sony and turning FFVII Rebirth into a timed exclusive on PS5 for only three months since they already know the game is going to undersell just like XVI did before it.
-announced that they will not be releasing any first party games in 2024 amidst a massive dry spell of releases.
-Sony/Naughty Dog decide to "remaster" The Last of Us 2 on PS5 despite the game being a massive flop the first time around.
-Sony recently declared that the PS5 is now in the "latter years of it's life cycle" despite only being out for three years due to the console struggling to sell units.
-Sony's president recently said that they will be "aggressively targeting multiplatform releases in the near future", basically confirming that all future PS5 games will see a simultaneous release on PC and console.

Sony clearly peaked in the PS1/2 days and we will never get another console gen like that ever again.

Btw the Sony faggots on Reddit always downvote you whenever you mention FFVII Rebirth being a PS5 "exclusive" for three months since they don't like being reminded that they bought a $500 console with no games :story:
"I'm going to spend $500 because I just can't wait an additional three months to play a remake of a game from 1997."

I suppose people like this probably exist and I get kind of depressed just imagining it.

If things are this bad, I wonder how long it will take for GTA VI to hit PC.
According to the fanboys, GTA 6, a multi-platform game, will move millions of PS5 consoles, because PS5 has the best exclusives, or something.

The only reason GTA 6 is launching on consoles first is to encourage double-dipping. I'll bet there's some graphics cap on consoles like locked at 1440p or locked at 30fps.

PS5 sales slowing down isn't shocking.
1. Can't lower the price by much. They have stated they can't get the parts any cheaper, nor are willing to lose money on a console to increases units sold.
2. This gen really hasn't started yet, still a lot of big games that hit the PS4, so a causal gamer may not feel the need to upgrade yet. Call of Duty as of now is still cross gen, I expect when becomesnext gen only and GTA6 to be a real push for the consoles, however that is going to be 2025, so between 4 and 5 years into the consoles life span.
3. Cost of living is fucked right now, less people are willing to put down the money for consoles.
4. In terms of big PS5 only games, last year only had FF16 and SM2. While big games that did sell and move consoles, they don't appeal to everyone.

Also games are becoming less profitable, Spiderman 2 cost around $300 million, while it will make a lot of money, it's profit margin is going to be less than Spiderman 1 even if it outsells it. So longer dev times, more costly games and less games out is a bad for any company, but especially for a console maker.

Just no growth in most gaming companies, that shit will kill shares even if the company like Sony is still profitable. Outside Sony putting games out on PC closer to day one, and increases output not sure how they can improve growth. No idea how they can improve the PS5 growth, even if they do manage to get the price of the console down to where they can offer a price cut, will that get new customers or will it just be those with PS4 upgrading to the PS5.

PS5 Pro when it comes out will be expensive, wouldn't be shocked it is was $700 when it came out, I don't expect it fail, but it will be very niche.

I don't think this is a Sony only issue, lot of publishers and devs are hurting with the time taken and costs to make games, with lack of growth in the ips. Do wonder what the Switch 2 will be like, can Nintendo find a good power to price ratio, and even if they do, I'm doubtful if they can match the sales of the Switch 1, even if it still does well, that it's growth shareholders want.

SIE sabotaged its Japanese branch and market on purpose, so the Californian HQ could be at the top and in charge of the brand, even this ended up having severe consequences.
Less first-party offerings and collaboration projects as Japan Studio is no more. We haven't heard from Team Asobi ever since its news of an ambitious project 2 years ago.
The Playstation 5 is now +30% more expensive than when it originally released in Japan, as the Slim model is the default one, in addition of the price raises of PS Plus subscriptions as you mentioned.

Japanese third-parties played a huge part in Playstation's success in the past as the de-facto system. You wanted Armored Core, Ace Combat, Atelier, Disgaea, Earth Defense Force, Super Robot Wars, Ryu ga Gotoku, Ys, Persona, visual novels, etc., then Playstation was a safe choice. But now that nearly everything that Playstation get these days is multiplatform with Switch and/or PC, this (+ the current state of first-parties to distinct itself from the competition) melts down the value of the ecosystem.

The attach rate in PS5 software sales remain abysmally low this year (despite the console has supposedly sold over 4.5 million units), and retail PS4 game sales are naturally dying too.
  1. [PS5] Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Sega) - 125.492
  2. [PS5] Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Sony) - 116.358 (arigatou bundle-kun)
  3. [PS5] Persona 3 Reload (Atlus) - 86.054
  4. [PS5] Granblue Fantasy Relink (Cygames) - 57.202
  5. [PS5] Tekken 8 (Bandai Namco) - 28.125
  6. [PS5] The Last of Us Part II Remastered (Sony) - 4.364
  1. [PS4] Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Sega) - 101.691
  2. [PS4] Persona 3 Reload (Atlus) - 46.835
  3. [PS4] Granblue Fantasy Relink (Cygames) - 25.938
For the sake of fairness however, it's worth to mention Granblue Fantasy Relink had stock issues on release.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming out next week, and we should be able to see its performance in the following week, but I don't expect it to perform better than FF16 (which sold 336k retail copies first week, before reaching 429k LTD).

It's also rather funny how Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music in charge of anime licenses, is publishing games on the Nintendo Switch and PC (the port of Fate Stay Night being the latest example which completely skips Playstation this time).

With some more PS5s out there now and the brand power of FF7, I assume it should do a bit better. I hope I'm wrong and it completely flops.
