Warhammer 40k

I would not be surprised, but I cannot see the resemblance.
It's mainly from the end of the barrel to the shape of the magazine. I didn't really get an good look at the grip, though.

BARs didn't usually have bayonets, though, but who ever said 40k was accurate?
Yeah, but an bipod in 40k wouldn't be as useful as an bayonet.
Star Wars is known for modifying real world weaponry so why not WH40K
Yeah, but with 40k it's mainly just take an Mark IV and pop on an turret or some extra sponsons and just call it a day. Everything else is basically an energy weapon in the mold of something that realistically exists or it's something mundane, like an Terminator lugging around an Gau-8 Avenger while listening to classical music or something

There's nothing informal about it. Every good Boy worth his choppa knows that yellow goes boom, black is dead hard, blue is lucky, red makes you go faster, and purple is for being sneaky.
If you're going to explain the colours you should do it properly. For the filthy casuals who don't know, the reason that purple is "stealthy" is because the purple orks are masters of stealth. You ever seen a purple ork? No? There you go - proof how stealthy they are. I love this ork-ish variation on Russell's teapot.

Same reason most of us don't fancy living in a commune.
It's a bit more than just the lack of technology. In order to prevent the sort of idleness that that breeds degeneracy it's not just living a pastoral life. The exodites have to make life really, really hard for themselves. Which when you're a species of genius athletes that can quite literally jump six foot in the air from a standing position and have reflexes that would shame most Astartes, is no mean feat. Exodites deliberately sought out or seeded worlds to be very dangerous. Hence all the dinosaurs. Space hippies they are not.

My Rogue Trader reprint arrived.

Partner got it off the porch and said "More Warhammer More Often?" citing the W+ ad on the packing tape. I told them what that was all about - namely, Warhammer becoming more of a subscription service. The eyeroll and walking-off was... Well. I wish you could've seen it.
I think you've just summed up the experience of nearly every WH40K player there.

Is 1d4chan going to be offline permanently? Admittedly, I haven't kept a close ear to the ground on this one.
It would be a shame if it is. I often went there for a very quick overview on some piece of 40K lore. Of course it was a little tongue-in-cheek and one time it contained explicit genestealer porn fiction. But it was a lot more concise and readable than the mainstream 40K wikis. Come back 1d4chan!

EDIT: Found there is a back-up site called http://2d4chan.org . Looked up the entry on the Blood Ravens and there's still the lovely writing style I remember:

It's always possible. From what I've read, the admin/owner hates the site, but he refuses to hand it off to anyone else or shut it down permanently, so if it goes down while he's busy, he doesn't bother fixing it right away. It's possible he's content to just let it quietly die like this.

there's also a rumor due to streamers and youtubers shitting up the place with LEL 1D4CHAN SO FUNNAY that traffic and shit to deal with increased hard, which for someone who doesn't really care just takes it down since the retards moved on.

probably just copium.

The genius of the Orks in 40K is they're stupid. Think about all the other races in other science fiction settings you can remember, how many of them were stupid on purpose? Every sci fi setting wants to push really hard that all the aliens are hyperintelligent entities worthy of the reader's respect, but not Orks. The closest thing to a stupid race in Star Trek are the Klingons, but they're not stupid, they're a warrior race with a defined hierarchy similar to the Orks, but they're still an educated, intelligent species that mingle with other races in the Federation.

You can't fuck up writing an Ork the way you could a Vulcan, if an Ork does something stupid in the broader context of the situation or the setting, it's because it's an Ork and not because the writer is dumb. Being intentionally retarded is what makes Orks truly unique in sci fi in my opinion, because writing the behaviors of one is that much more flexible than writing stringently defined races like a Vulcan or Eldar, an Ork has room to make basic mistakes that a space Elf would never make and aren't held to high writing standards, because you don't have high expectations for them as characters, the only behavioral expectation of an Ork is to fight.
And that's why I run Orks. I'm retarded like them, and it works. Plus, if you fuck up assembling them, you can just cover it up with some kitbashing and not break any canon or rules.
I’ve heard bad stuff about army painter but that’s from /tg/ and that board is a spergfest. I’d recommend pro acryl for a go-to brand, especially their bold titanium white it’s bout only white worth a shot
I normally use FolkArt acrylic, which you can get at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Though I prefer off-white; titanium white looks too chalky.

I use Army Painter's black spray primer, and play with someone who said AP/Citadel paints are better for brighter colors (he runs Imperial Fists).

Well that sucks.

Army painter speed paints are fine if you're into those, and the air line is fine as well. It's their normal "war paint" line that they're finally replacing next month that's been around for years and is fucking awful.

Someone was asking me about how hard it is to print a Titan a while back and it inspired me to start a chaos knight army. I'm printing on an Anycubic X2 which has a bigger than average print bed. The chaos Lancer titan will take 3 prints, but I could probably get it down to 2 if I wanted to spend more time slicing. I can print a full war dog in 1 print.

I had this highly scientific notion that because Orks eyes are red they can't actually see red light, it gets reflected rather than absorbed. That's why red ones go faster, because they always arrive before you saw them coming, dakka and flash are yellow because there's no orange or red hues and purple is extra sneaky because it combines lucky (blue) and invisible.

That's kind of brilliant. I also like the mental image of a Raven Guard trying to be all stealthy whilst the orks completely ignore the Blood Angel standing right there in the open in favour of shooting him. "Whhhhyyyyy?" cries that Dark Angel.

That kind of depends on eye anatomy. Sometimes ork are shown with pupils, which would make that the red colouration has no impact on eyesight.

Dow1 had given them lizardlike slits for example. If they didn't saw red, they would see it as grey. Their nightvision and long range vision is supposed to be bad. They are... short sighted.
