Mr. Lofton was definitely one of the most likeable Star Trek kids. He was good-hearted, but sometimes he got into reckless teenage trouble (and haven't we all?) with his Ferengi buddy Nog. He was a more realistic teenage boy than My-Shit-Doesn't-Stink Wesley Crusher. In honor of black history month, Cirroc Lofton stays winning. man I love ds9

I was inspired to watch Star Trek TNG for the first time by the latest RedLetterMedia video (for some reason) and jesus christ I would have wanted Wesley jettisoned out an airlock after episode 1 even if I didn't know what a self absorbed tit Wil Wheaton was.I only watched DS9 very recently (in the last two years) and it immediately struck me that Jake Sisko must have been conceived as a deliberate counterpoint to Wesley Crusher. Just a normal kid, his dad trying to give him as healthy an upbringing as possible.
I started rewatching it after several of the nerdy boomers I knew kicked the bucket. Trek was definitely more popular with that generation of nerds than mine. In part they probably had less options for sci fi than we have now. But there’s no doubt it impacted pop culture for better or for worse and it’s my way to honor their memory.I was inspired to watch Star Trek TNG for the first time by the latest RedLetterMedia video (for some reason) and jesus christ I would have wanted Wesley jettisoned out an airlock after episode 1 even if I didn't know what a self absorbed tit Wil Wheaton was.
Self-absorbed nerds believe in some way they'd be a Wesley Crusher in the 24th century but they're actually a Reginald Barclay. He's probably my favorite character, since he's how I picture a super smart person from the 21st century would act in a future civilization where autism is cured and people are selfless and nearly spotless examples of human decency and ability (except for that one asperger's girl in Discovery but that doesn't count). If you're getting worn out on early episodes of TNG pop on "The Nth Degree", S4 E19. It's my favorite.I started rewatching it after several of the nerdy boomers I knew kicked the bucket. This time around I’ve found the OG Star Trek although cheesy, reminded me of a lot of space soap operas and pop sci fi stories. There’s a certain air about the culture that’s distinctively from the 50s/60s. There’s a certain air of optimism, belief, and grit that is slowly disappearing from this country. The cartoon in particular has a few moments that could upset modern audiences.
Another thing that struck me is that Wesley was the most annoying kid character in that show or any show I’ve seen. He is the OC OC, probably the prime example of Gary Stu. He’s worse than 99% of young adult protagonists.
Or just watch it all and fall asleep if an episode is boring. You'll wake up when something cool blows upFree Advice to new viewers of TNG:
Season 1 Needed Viewing: Encounter at Farpoint, Naked Now, Where No One Has Gone Before (Yes, a Fucking Wesley Episode, but sadly needed for future episodes), The Battle, 11001001, Datalore, Heart of Glory (First In depth look at the Klingons of the 24th Century), Skin of Evil (Big Event with lasting consequences), Conspiracy, & find a clip of the last few minutes of the Neutral Zone it's the finale and it's the Romulan Clip you want.).
Not Needed but Good of Season 1: Too Short a Season and Symbiosis.
Season 2 Needed Viewing: Elementary My Dear Data, The Measure of a Man, The Icarus Factor, Q Who (Very Important to Future Episodes), & The Emissary.
Not Needed but Good of Season 2: The Schizoid Man, Unnatural Selection, A Matter of Honor, & Contagion.
The Needed Viewing Episodes will have reference or story plots felt down the road.
This is all you need to view skip the rest if you want and start with Season 3 that's when the show got good.
He's not great, but a lot of the hate he gets is because the suckiness of the first season amplifies the suckiness of what was by itself a merely poorly-written character.I was inspired to watch Star Trek TNG for the first time by the latest RedLetterMedia video (for some reason) and jesus christ I would have wanted Wesley jettisoned out an airlock after episode 1 even if I didn't know what a self absorbed tit Wil Wheaton was.
Thats why you got the guy who played adult Wil WheatonI'm willing to bet the only reason that wasn't done was because no one wanted to spend 2- or 3-months filming with the prick.
His character actually went somewhere: from typical ferengi goblin to proper starfleet member, actual character development.Heck no! People love Nog! (and as pointed out, he was an actor rendered small by a disease - was also in amnityville 4)
Everyone especially adored Nog after the show gave him some character growth and really did something with the character.
After he lost his leg in the war and everything? Fans ADORE Nog. He proved that with good writers, even kids can be great characters.

I think the problem there(and why they eventually just wrote him out) is because the character was written so badly that there wasn't much to do with the character outside of a complete re-write to the point of it seeming like his brain would have been swapped. He needed to be old enough to actually enter starfleet academy, needed to suddenly become a dumbass(by comparison) that didn't have an answer for everything, and there was never an ongoing main plot thread for the viewer to follow along with and actually see growth in any character really.Terribly written character. Blame it on Roddenberry, but everyone after just repeated the same thing over and over with him and it sucked.
The change would have to happen fairly quick, in a couple of episodes tops, or he has to be funny and charismatic. You can be an arrogant asshole as long as you're funny.I've said it before, it would have been better to have newly minted Ensign Wesley Crusher, supergenius and top of his class at the academy, put the young kid on the show and let him get knocked down and have to face the reality that what he learned in the books is not how it really is in deep space.

He can be arrogant, abrasive, condescending, and just a snot who doesn't really listen to anyone because, of course, he knows what's best and have him take his lumps until he learns that no, he really doesn't. Basically Chekov with a chip on his shoulder because he's bought into the propaganda that he's this wunderkind everyone has been touting him as since day one.
Was checking social media stuff and apparently he's a featured guest on the Trek cruise
I've never seen a picture of him that screamed faggot harder than this
