I think it's definitely pushed by the Pharma industry to be given to women who don't need it at all. I remember when I was a teenager my gynecologist recommended it for my acne and irregular periods (both of which are perfectly normal for a teenager) of course it did shit-all except make me want to kill myself. When I complained about my symptoms they just put me on a different pill. Women who go to the doctor for ANY hormonal issue are only ever prescribed the pill and almost never any alternative treatments.

I think cycle tracking through CM is probably the least invasive method and if you aren't too retarded to insert a diaphragm (heh) then using that with some spermicide on top of tracking is pretty damn safe. Ofc if your cycle is very irregular that becomes more difficult. Educating women about how the menstrual cycle actually works should be absolutely mandatory education. Too many women don't know anything about it until they start to try to get pregnant and then are like "Wait? There's only a 30% chance to get pregnant every month even if you have unprotected sex on all of the fertile days?? Why have I been absolutely terrified of getting pregnant my entire life when it's actually harder than I thought?" Some women ofc are cursed (or some consider it blessed maybe) with super mega fertility. I know several who got pregnant despite having an IUD.
