I agree with everything you said here except maybe the black part.

I've seen that claim made in threads outside this CG one, and I am not sure what to make of it. Is there any credible evidence Ethan is racist? Are July's people playing the race card unfairly?

I just think if Eric July were everything he is now, but white, you'd be seeing the same reaction from EVS. I think this is the result of EVS being shown up by anyone.

It's the worst kept secret in CG that Ethan's plan all along was for him, Malin and Mandy to create their own Comicsgate Crowdfunder. All that money that goes to Indiegogo? That belongs to THEM. And even though they actively thwarted campaigns by smaller creators for daring to use another platform other than IGG, they still haven't been able to pull it off.

Now it's gonna get ugly... and I can't WAIT for the carnage.

CG was like Hazard County from the Dukes of Hazzard with EVS as its Boss Hogg. Fat, lazy EVS owned the town and ran it with his dopey deputies. Decent money was coming in. Most customers didn't care that products weren't being finished in any reasonable amount of time. It wasn't too long before complacency, mismanagement, and corruption set in. EVS became content mostly just lazing around, gambling, going to events, spending money, indulging in gluttony, etc. No matter what, it was his town, guaranteed. As somebody on the site perfectly put it, CG was EVS' retirement home for aging artists.

And now you've got this upstart showing up with an actual work ethic and plan. He's got capital he is willing to spend, drive, and ambition. Suddenly, Boss Hogg is realizing that his grip on Hazard County isn't as absolute as he thought. He actually has to try and compete now. He actually has to fulfill his promises or risk people moving over to an actually competent publisher. This once easy, cush position is suddenly threatened.

Yeah, I can imagine EVS is absolutely pissed. He just wanted to fuck around endlessly with no consequences, and now his sure thing is no longer a sure thing.

Yeah. If I recall correctly, Jay did charity work in Haiti for a bit after that earthquake in 2010. And he goes down to Mexico or somewhere to do charity a lot.

He's a bit of a goober but he's a decent guy overall. Last campaign he did was fulfilled about three months after he started the campaign. Book was already done when it started.

This one should do better I think. No longer an unknown quantity as far as the comic went and it actually getting fulfilled. It's also for kids which seems like an ignored market by a lot of CG and whatnot. Reviews for it seemed positive too. And while I thought his artist did fine. The next one is better. I forget why she couldn't do this one though. She lives in Hawaii, but I am pretty sure it wasn't the fire that was why she couldn't do this one.

He gave an update recently and he's mostly caught up with the books it looks like. Two or three are at the printers and I think he said he got one from them recently. So looks like Eric's bullying worked.

He never really imploded. He was just never any good to begin with. He makes his comics. They don't tend to be very good. He is always late in delivering them. He is still doing the same videos complaining about the same things he was complaining about in 2017. The audience for his comics has been shrinking year by year but its still large enough to (probably) protect him from having to work for a living.

He abandoned most of the ideas he started with. His comics are now about delivering "art" to people. totally on his terms He isn't a hot dog salesman and comics are not hot dogs. Comics are about us experiencing Zack the "artist". In his own way, he is as pretentious and bad as any marvel/dc comics creator from 10 years ago.

Zack is no longer part of the comicsgate movement. If it can even be called a movement today. Comicsgate today is Ethan Van Sciver, Jon Malin and Shane Davis. Ethan Van Sciver has delivered two new comics since 2018. Jon Malin these days hires people to make comics for him. There is nothing worth saying about Shane Davis. Comicsgate mostly produces streaming content and has little interest in anything to do with comics anymore.

Null actually did a poll back in September to try sus out what the political identity of the site was. Sample size was 5,126 users.

It's about what you'd expect. The top three picks were conservative, libertarian, and centrist. Not so much liberal, progressive, or authoritarian.



Without elaboration, I dunno what leads Wiggle to the conclusion he's making here. Unless he just assumes everybody who is critical of EVS/CG is left of center. I would imagine that's the view EVS would like people to have, as part of his anti-SJW branding, but I don't think it's true at all.

I suspect you might be behind "a bit." Zach turned over leadership of CG to Ethan Van Sciver a long time ago, and basically did his own thing. Or tried to. He's now leader emeritus. Largely retired back to the Walmart and McDonalds parking lots from whence he came. Though he's still putting out books at a slow rate.
