i'm usually up to date on lingo but some of the shit zoomers say from tiktok sometimes baffle me

for the longest i used to hear "did you know baby gronk rizzed up livvy dune?" and i thought it was some retarded inside joke for the longest and one of the first times i actually didn't understand internet lingo

also the degenerate shit that reddit users are into, when i read certain acronyms, i feel like im reading chinese

Something popped up on Facebook today, about the Australian War Memorial asking for volunteers to read and transcribe letters and diaries for them... because the people who can read cursive are dying out.

I was taught running writing in primary school and I'm only forty, what the actual fuck is this shit?
34 here, I think my exact age class were the last, or one of the last in the UK to be taught cursive.

I kept it up after school, and write exclusively in cursive. Feels natural to me, looks great, and is incredibly efficient if you're well practiced.

Always funny when people give me shit about 'I can't read your reading.'

That's because you're a fucking retard, Jim.

I found an old HP laptop where the screen shell alone was as thick as my thumb. Laptops were large and THICK back then.

Holy shit yeah. I've still got my old Compaq Presario from back in the day. It feels nigh-on indestructable. I was always going to do a sleeper build but I've not gotten around to it yet.

I've never even HEARD of Compaq. How about Gateway back in the day?

I distinctly remember Circuit City being a thing. With those white computer towers. NOW I'm aging myself.

Was listening to an album today and it reminded me of the first stages of a long-term relationship with an ex. I thought to myself "Huh, I wonder how she's getting on, haven't seen her in almo-oooooooh no. More than ten years."
Same thing, except it was at work and "Drops of Jupiter" came on and it was my ex's favorite song. It's been a decade and a half since I last saw her.

I was born in 2000. I grew up watching stuff like Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Blue's Clues and Ed, Edd n Eddy. Ed, Edd n Eddy was, of course, the last major animated show to use cel animation, the historically traditional method. It ran from January 4th, 1999, up until it concluded with a TV movie on November 8th, 2009. That makes me feel old, despite being only 23.

It's especially crazy to think about since up until a few years ago, Adobe Flash was what most of the animation industry used for creating shows and movies. At this point, they've all been moving away from Flash since it was discontinued. Toon Boom Harmony is the name of the game now.

If you think about it, that means I'm a dinosaur when measuring time by the product lifetime of animation software.

Compaq laptops were just HP laptops but cheaper...I think? Didn't have Circuit City where I grew up, but I remember my first PC being an eMachines grey-and-silver affair. That DVD drive with a second CD writing drive was mindblowing at the time. Copied so many CDs.

Music just does that sometimes. Alison by Slowdive was a song I introduced to an ex back in 2008 or so, became a favourite of hers. Haven't heard from her since 2011.

Compaq was it's own distinct company since the eighties, far more common to see in the corporate world than home use I think. HP bought them up in the early 2000s and kept the brand around but little else.

Thanks for the correction. I had HP and Compaq laptops in the mid/late 2000s and they were identical except branding. Makes sense. Brilliant responsive keyboards though, and massive screens.

Remember when the MSRP for video games were 49.95?
I haven't purchased a video game since the early 2000's. Back then the GBA new were cheaper than their console counterpart such as the PS2. Seeing prices on Gamestop now makes me wonder where gamers today are getting all the money. That doesn't count DLC I bet. Which is something we didn't have back then.

Laptops were large and THICK back then.
best sidebag I ever had was the carrying bag for a 286 laptop
you could fit so much shit in it, great padding, tons of pockets, decent water resistance, loved it so much

tbf in the SNES days they were getting up to $70, and I'm not talking imports

Remember the joys of using microfiche for article hunting for school? Ahh the joy of itsy bitsy little films of every page.

Or the days when they kept the video games in toysrus in their own little hut to keep kids from finding custer's last stand.

I remember buying old sierra games for like $20/$30 from compusa.
