I have to disagree. There have been a lot of big industries in America's history who were thought to be untouchable until they weren't. The railroads in the 1800s had massive influence over the country during America's expansion westward until it was found out they were deliberately curving their tracks because they were charging by the mile of track they laid. The Tobacco industry had some of the most powerful lobbyists in America keeping a lid on the health risks smoking had until public opinion turned against them. One of the things we remember that for is how they were going to turn kids into "customers for life" by having every cool celebrity be seen with a cigarette in their mouths.
