Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

I'm speechless, there's been so much stuff to complain about recently and so much of it is in Jim's wheelhouse and he does this? Knowingly punching down at a dumb image and AIbro made because they were butthurt? I can't believe he somehow made me wish this was another AAA bashing video, this is truly zero effort content.

New JQ has dropped:
I only made it a minute in, but I can already see Jim is scraping the barrel on this one. The image that is the entire impetus for the video is either a troll job, or something made by a particularly delusional A.I. 'artist'.

The majority of people continue to see A.I. art as the dumb fun it is, Jim continues to tilt at windmills. See you all next week.
But it's not wrong, either. The difference between someone who just shits out a prompt and someone who works at it to produce a result is like night and day.

Now in fairness to Jim, maybe he'll surprise me and he has a video about one of those topics in the works
Once again, Jim does not exceed my expectations.

Jim's just worried AI is coming for his job:

Prompt "Can you write a script on micro transactions in video games for a 6 minute youtube show called "The Jimquisition" , please use one wrestling reference and references to this topic affecting negatively lgbt and trans people"

Title: "The Jimquisition: Microtransactions – Unmasking the Hidden Costs"

[IntRODUCTION]

"Hello, Jimquisition viewers! Today, we're diving into the perilous world of microtransactions in video games. It's a hot topic that has left the gaming community divided, but there's an aspect we can't ignore – how these microtransactions might be affecting our LGBTQ+ and trans gaming community. Join me as we unravel the hidden costs. But first, let's lay the groundwork."

[SEGMENT 1: The Microtransaction Conundrum]

"Microtransactions, the digital Pandora's box, have become an inseparable part of the gaming experience. However, as we peel back the layers, we uncover a conundrum – one that may disproportionately affect certain communities within our gaming family."

[SEGMENT 2: The Financial Impact]

"For many players, microtransactions are a small splurge for that extra in-game flair. But for others, especially within the LGBTQ+ and trans community, the financial impact might be more significant. Let's explore how these microtransactions can inadvertently contribute to financial exclusion, limiting access to content for those on a tighter budget."

[SEGMENT 3: The Representation Gap]

"Just as representation matters in the wrestling ring, it's crucial in the gaming world. Microtransactions often offer cosmetic items that allow players to express themselves. But what if these options don't reflect the diversity of our gaming community? The lack of inclusive customization options can lead to a sense of exclusion for LGBTQ+ and trans players."

[SEGMENT 4: Wrestling Reference - Scripted Outcomes]

"Wrestling often involves scripted outcomes, but in gaming, the impact of microtransactions can feel like a predetermined storyline. The question arises – are these transactions scripting the gaming experience, steering it away from inclusivity and towards a financial narrative that leaves certain players behind?"

[SEGMENT 5: The Trans Experience]

"Now, let's delve into the unique challenges faced by our trans gaming community. Microtransactions, while seemingly innocuous, can inadvertently perpetuate stereotypes or fail to provide the representation that trans players deserve. It's essential to scrutinize how these transactions contribute to or detract from a safe and inclusive gaming environment."

[SEGMENT 6: A Call for Balance]

"As the curtain falls on our microtransaction exploration, the call for balance becomes clear. It's time for game developers to reassess the impact of their in-game economies and ensure that microtransactions don't inadvertently create barriers for our LGBTQ+ and trans players. Let's champion diversity, representation, and affordability within the gaming world."

"Thank you for joining me on this crucial episode of The Jimquisition. If you found this discussion valuable, don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. Together, let's keep holding the industry accountable for a more inclusive and affordable gaming experience. I'm Jim Sterling, and I'll catch you in the next video!"

Not too bad if I could be bothered feeding transcripts from previous shows it would probably nail it

Woah, what an original take on generative AI.
- ai art bad
- "artistic incels"
- generative ai is stealing all the jerhbs from artists (ironic shilling of authoritarian copyright laws by extension)
- ai bro, tech bro, crypto bro, nft bro strawman

On the face of it I can believe that, but the problem right under the surface would be social media. With the circles he's engaged with, there's no way he's got a feed full of anything other than industry seething over the latest things.
The thing is, though, the social media algorithms are so obnoxious now that even if you're following dozens of gaming-adjacent accounts if all you post about and interact with is troon and wrestling shit you'll never ever see any of that. 80% of my subs on YouTube are art and gaming channels, but I watched one drummer video and now my recommended is filled with videos about learning to play various different instruments.

I think @Moja Zemlja is the only person who still tracks Jim's Twitter antics, does he talk about gaming much on there?
But it's not wrong, either. The difference between someone who just shits out a prompt and someone who works at it to produce a result is like night and day.
It's not wrong, but the image itself is so stupid I am convinced it's something a troll made. It would be like an Anti-SJW making a video ranting about Godfrey Elfwick or Titania McGrath tweets.
I thought he would go for a muh gamergate 2.0 narrative this week, given he was involved the first time round.
I am really, really surprised he's keeping a distance from the Sweet Baby Inc situation. It's the perfect springboard for one of his 'MUH TRANS GENOCIDE' rants, so it only further solidifies my theory he deliberately avoids gaming news now and only becomes aware of things his friends send him.

Although even then, I'd expect someone like LKD to be ranting to him about it. Is anyone willing to listen to one of his podcasts and see if it's been mentioned on there?

I feel like this Ai script is still more coherent than anything Jim has managed as of late, plus, you forgot to put in must state at least three vulgar innduendos about moobs, or something like that.
Besides that...pretty spot on.

Worst monthly channel views since records began. A few 2024 videos have now limped over 100k but his views on new content continue to be abysmal.
Was wondering how my boi was doing. I am suprised how well he is still doing especially on Patreon, i am still convinced that most of the Patrons have forgotten that they give him money. I see it with myself that sometimes i just leave a sub running a couple months after i stopped really caring for the content of a creator.

So i can imagine people just leavin it be as a habit or their 1-2$ contribution is so little that it doesn't bother them at all.

On another note, did Jimbo chime in on the Sweet Baby Inc discussion at all? I know he likes to be late on that stuff so maybe in 2-3 months a video drops.

Jim won't talk about Sweet Baby Inc. They're not the kind of people Jim wants to criticize, so he'll just conveniently just miss his chance to talk about them.
I don't think anyone was expecting Jim to criticise them, but to cape for them because it gives him the perfect opportunity to climb up his cross and retell his Vampire Survivors story for the umpteenth time.

I was expecting Jim to make a video defending Sweet Baby this week, but i guess he's too much of a coward for that, or he's going to be late as usual.

With several hundred pages left to skim, how the fuck is it possible to ruin your life like this?
I personally think his downward trend started when he backed the wrong horse during gamergate and had to keep doubling down, until eventually he painted himself into a corner where his audience is progressives that hate games. He's lazy and disinterest in various topics means he's jumping on bandwagons far too late, and offering nothing new aside from regurgitating the correct opinion.
