He seems to have an issue with Rippa doing it. He loves doing his business with IGG, I don't think it's a dumb decision, but felt compelled to document hypocrisy.

It just seems weird to me that he doesn't at least do similar to Shane where they have the website and IGG. Particularly when sites like Kickstarter or IGG will shadowban or shut your page down without a second thought.

I suppose it could be a case where the easiness of doing the sales through a third-party site is worth giving them a cut. But it still seems like throwing money away to me. Heck, after IGG, I think he just sells the comics on eBay instead of his own site (if he even has one). And eBay will take ~13% instead of the 2-4% with whatever processor he uses. Again, no problem doing that. Particularly if his comic comes up in a search. But maybe do both?

This probably wouldn't make sense for those with smaller campaigns. But if you consistently do $40/$50k+. Why not consider including the website?

Outside of Vito's thing. I kind of get it though. These people can draw what they want. Plus, sex sales. But it gets to be laughable at times. yeah, a lot of of CG comics (especially the smaller ones) seem to just be soft core porn anyway. they'd probably make more money if they went all in and appealed to the coomer market by just making it straight up porn. Not like any of these Degens have any moral problems with doing it anyway.

I’ve always wondered how many regulars/past regulars in this thread came to know of Comicsgate through an appreciation of comics, rather than becoming aware of Ethan and co because of their increasing levels of lolcow faggotry.

Myself, I was a devotee of the comics scene from the 80s/90s; including Transformers UK and Death’s Head, Machine Man and Iron Man.

Like many, I had grown tired of the bullshit liberalist propaganda in all mid-2010 media including comics; so when I first became aware of an ‘organised’ crowdfunding movement like Comicsgate, I was really interested. Admittedly, I only became aware, of all ironies, after seeing EVS appear on an Az Chats episode circa Spring 2020.

I really thought that the idea of Comicsgate had the potential to do something great. And it could have been - but of course we know how history played out. A bunch of unchecked egos who languished in the drama and encouragement from brainwashed paypigs, reminding us all that behind every great creative you need a proper manager to crack the whip, push deadlines and manage the admin side.

As much as I delight in EVS’ fury and continuous buffoonery, the ashes of Comicsgate make me reflect on what a wasted opportunity this. Unlike the majority of Lolcows on the site (perhaps with the exception of Rekieta), Comicsgate will serve as an historic lesson in how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I feel you. I was really into comics in the 90s and 00s. In the 2010s I suddenly noticed that the comic website I was reading started posting articles about how white people are evil and all men are rapists. At the time I had no idea what an SJW or anything was, so I essentially just quit in disgust, unaware at the time as to why a bunch of insane people seemed to have taken over. It was a red pill moment.

After learning about what an SJW was I totally gave up comics and didn't look back. (Which took a long time, since they're completely irrational and hard to comprehend at first, I actually spent years thinking they were just lying or trolling about their beliefs lmao.)

It was simple Zack and Captain Cummings that lured me back. EVS came along after and really brought me back in with his drawing streams. I backed several people like DougT, Lim, BillyT, and EVS. The funny thing is, EVS had already fractured CG before the first Cyberfrog came out. Then CF was late & gay. Then when it arrived it was extremely lackluster. So I abandoned CG completely. Manga, Euro comics, and other non-capeshit is what I'm into now. If CG wanted to survive it needed to have better comics at the end of the day, even without this gay drama it was doomed. Most of it is the same lame, bland, disposable shit the mainstream is putting out, and it takes 2-3 years per issue. Such passion!

I think he's expanding the umbrella of what a "girl boss" is, I'm sure his precious Heather Swain would fit in that definition. But, he's got to own the blacks.

My theories about EVS' absolutely stupid tweet with two possible explanations:

1) Gary from Nerdrotic often makes reference to intersectional feminism (the academic feminist theory that is now used in all major media corporations to govern how narratives must be written) at work in media. EJ is friends with Gary, so EVS is trying to own EJ by employing Gary's terminology in an effort to try and gaslight his retard army and EJ's potential customers into thinking that EJ is now some kind of hypocritical SJW sellout. We have seen EVS trying to work that angle hard these last weeks as he has tried to portray the Soskas as Satanic far leftists.

2) EVS is as dumb as the rest of the media and random people on the internet in that he honestly can't tell the difference between an intersectional feminist story and a story with female characters who can be powerful and do stuff. There is a difference. Ellen Ripley is the hero of Aliens, but she's not a man-hating intersectional feminist character, nor is Aliens a man-hating intersectionalist story. Rogue, Psylocke, Storm, etc. weren't intersectional feminist characters in the '90s X-Men cartoon, but they were superheroines. Just because a story has a powerful female character doesn't necessarily make it intersectional feminist.

I was a big fan of EVS's and I backed a number of his things. I didn't really care about the lateness so much or at least I rationalized it by saying I got a lot of hours of entertainment from him that I didn't pay for. I still maintain that he was a great host as far as youtube goes and he had a pretty quick wit and could carry a show. There were things I didn't always agree with him on but I stuck around mostly because I thought he was funny. But this thing with Eric July just makes him seem so freaking weak and pathetic. It makes me feel embarrassed that I ever liked him or gave him any money for anything.

I'm sort of coming around to JDA more. His streams are more or less fun and I can play them in the background and hear about what SJW retards did today. But he relies on established memes and Cider for comedy more than actually being particularly funny himself, but for lack of better options, it is pretty much the stream I landed on for now.

The majority of sales within CG center on 35-60 year old males. So it's no wonder that the micro-market within CG mainly features 1990's callbacks and "I had this idea 30 years ago but" plotlines. It's also why it doesn't grow, there's no appeal to anyone outside. There are quite a few projects that would fit nicely into a YA bracket, but because the spending audience in CG aren't engaged in media that came to exist after 2005, these projects don't catch on.
I remember the Mighty Mascots being a CG related project for a time. It maintained a following, but didn't receive praise in CG because the audience there is not interested in media for children, despite their crowdfunded artistic medium of choice.

I only read Marvel Transformers comics as a kid. I never got into superheroes. I knew EVS as the guy who did funny Rose Tico videos and was on some show called The High Council. I'm very surprised he doesn't have his own thread.

The cow that brought me to the farms was Jack Scalfani. After four strokes his milk is dried up. Luckily Nick Rekieta bloomed into a giga cow. Nick’s 7 hour Eric July cope stream brought Comicsgate to my attention. This Comicsgate thing, it has a lot of cow crossover. Dick, Nick, EVS, Vito, Ethan Ralph. It’s like a cow Voltron.

while i was never into comics I thought EVS was a funny/"good" (as "good" as you can be on the internet I guess) guy largely from some old streams and that he had a personal beef with Fatrick. The irony is that this is exactly what EVS used to preach. He spent years talking about CG as just a simple business philosophy of customer service. Sell your books to everyone, even to people who disagree with you or even hate you. Pure capitalism with no ideological agenda.

It should be mentioned he paywalls his livestreams, but uploads free short-form videos. Which makes detection of this phenomenon more difficult. He'll frequently say one thing on one, and the opposite thing on another.

Bottom line is he talks out of both sides of his mouth. Just like Ethan.

This is why there needs to be a big fat asterisk next to his name on any list of people who have supposedly split from CG. Right now I think he's skittish because July is doing well in spite of Team Masterson's best efforts, and because Jim seems sympathetic to July.
