The only legitimate "Long COVID" cases are people with verifiable pulmonary or neurological damage from the virus, but munchies like Lorenz used it as an opportunity to rebrand their vague fibro/fatigue attention seeking bullshit with a new veneer of legitimacy. I thought that she was still in the gray zone of being an “advocate for the vulnerable” with an emphasis on long Covid but not explicitly saying that she has long Covid or ever clearing up what her mysterious condition is. If you're unlucky, any virus or infection can trigger a long-term autoimmune condition. It's still poorly understood, but it's important area of medicine that definitely should not be dismissed (there is a lot of new research linking MS to infection with Epstein Barr virus, for example). It also can happen with the flu and presumably with covid.
What the guy is saying is that covid isn't really different from other viruses in that sense. He is not ruling out the existence of debilitating conditions triggered by viruses. They are very real (as is "post viral syndrome," which is a period of fatigue after a viral infection caused by immune-related inflammation). Quote:
"Our evidence suggests that ... it is not dissimilar to other viruses. That does not mean that you can't get these persistent symptoms following Covid-19, but you're no more likely to get it after Covid than with other respiratory viruses."
This should actually be great news even for a hypochondriac like Taylor, since she could turn it around into demanding more awareness of all post-viral conditions. But she's more concerned about keeping the narrative that covid is super-special and dangerous and that's why she can't leave the house (except when it suits her).

In simpler terms, some people want to categorize the harsher symptoms of a disease as a subcategory of the same disease or a whole knew type of it. This is what munchies do: "yeah, I have diabetes, but my diabetes is super special and different". What happens is that a disease doesn't act the same in every body due to the different factors within the patient. If you're athletic and healthy or sickly and obese, the same disease will act different.
I -sadly- know my share of hypochondriacs and I can tell you that they don't listen to any reason or evidence. They just shut down to any attempt to tell them it's safe to low down precautions.

They also are actually happy about this kind of thing, it allows them to claim they're being ignored and oppressed and genocided. If Long COVID was accepted as real and treated as an emergency and the patients given whatever they ask it would quickly become common and they'd have to find something new.

IIRC, the "long influenza" was first noticed after the Spanish Flu pandemic. Cardio-pulmonary problems, and neurological problems,and a few odd problems. The writer Katherine Anne Porter survived the flu, but all of her hair fell out. It grew back white and was white for the rest of her days. President Woodrow Wilson caught the flu in Paris, while negotiating the Versailles treaty. He recovered, but it gave him a brain rot /brain fog. His behavior before and after the flu are like night and day, and had very unpleasant consequences, basically that the vindictive Clemenceau got his version of the treaty, which healthy Wilson vehemently had opposed, but sick Wilson gave in to, and we know what that treaty led to. Wilson's later stroke was probably a result of the Spanish Flu.
