This is one major reason why many Canadians of my generation (Millennial) or younger are mentally and emotionally checked out of the system. What motivation is there to work hard and try to get when the government flood the market with foreign workers who will work for peanuts and live in horrendous conditions? A friend and former roommate of mine who now lives in Saskatoon is telling me how difficult to land a job and all but confirmed that many of these companies openly discriminate as one Arab-owned cleaning company he applied to hires only other Arabs. I can't tell you how many times I dissociate myself from my surroundings when I'm standing on the train platform because of the radical demographic transformation of the last 20+ years. There's no sense of community apart from the empty "rah rah!" diversity platitudes and I can only sense a deep artificiality in mainstream Canadian culture that reinforces my stance that I have no stake in this country's future.

I imagine that is a factor in the current opioid crisis, but the government either wants to be your drug dealer or executioner via MAiD. The government is going to import someone from an Indian slum to replace you if you die anyway.

A friend and former roommate of mine who now lives in Saskatoon is telling me how difficult to land a job and all but confirmed that many of these companies openly discriminate as one Arab-owned cleaning company he applied to hires only other Arabs. I can't tell you how many times I dissociate myself from my surroundings when I'm standing on the train platform because of the radical demographic transformation of the last 20+ years. There's no sense of community apart from the empty "rah rah!" diversity platitudes and I can only sense a deep artificiality in mainstream Canadian culture that reinforces my stance that I have no stake in this country's future.

I imagine that is a factor in the current opioid crisis, but the government either wants to be your drug dealer or executioner via MAiD. The government is going to import someone from an Indian slum to replace you if you die anyway.

I quickly realized that you don't really need to go to college/university in order to find work. If you have a knack with learning specifics subjects, you can get by with a DVS/DEP. While these courses might be barebone (they must respect the government's standards), you'll usually have university-level teachers just throwing the course and teaching real stuff. Just don't go to the big cities like Montreal, it's all arabs and pajeets over there.

Did you know people with STEM or programming degrees are winding up homeless now? Shits bad- and yeah, inb4 an undergraduate in computer programming isnt a job guarantee, you need experience (wasn't that difficult to get experience a decade ago).

This happened after the dotcom bubble too, and in the couple years after the financial crisis.

The reality is the software industry is a boom/bust cycle due to the influence of VC funding. Low rates = risky bets = demand for engineers that won't be there when a sane economy comes back.

It's really no different than Alberta oil in that regard; depending on your experience and where you work you can just be shit-out-of-luck.

I spent most of my career sizing my expenses to be coverable by an EI cheque since I was well aware of this.

I went home over Christmas and my Brother and his GF were talking about how their neighbour who runs a Tims lets their employees live them. They seemed to think it was such a nice thing they were doing, and I asked them if they were paid in coal script. Like these people are only a half step away from being a slave.

Managed a team that wound up full of indians due to management (this was at the start of covid, when it was arguably better) and yeah-

Its common for major firms to

a) not hire people, instead they contract through a labour agency for 3-4 month contracts that are, in theory, endlessly renewed- but really theres not much job security and zero benefits

b) you see a lot of zero hour contracts currently in the gig economy

c) you also tend to have contract clauses that require you to work at any point in a 24 hour cycle, lest you not get the job. Most places will give you the type of shift that you want, but I can remember when students wanted to go back to school (these were Indians and Nigerians) and wanted to go part time, rather than even wait for their contract to end or fire them, upper management's policy was to just put them on night shift to force them to quit. I can remember feeling powerless as a supervisor, as most of the team actually did their job properly enough, and they wound up getting the shaft. Half the team surprisingly went for it, these people will do anything to keep a job. Reason number idek at this point as to why I despise liberals, because the company also waved gay flags and talked about how progressive it was. Virtue signaling, of course, but theres something just nasty about those people even independent of that naked hypocrisy.

I do feel pity for them, because thats a fucked up situation to put a student (even an Indian) in, and a fucked up way to manage a business- but on the other hand, yeah; theyve also destroyed the job market and are flooding into the country en masse. Not going to name company, but this one is big.

I can remember doing wage-slave and McJobs years ago and at the least, there were stronger labour protections. Now, even if you can find one of these positions, theres no real labour protections any longer with the way most major firms or companies do their contracting.

I'm going to guess it's Walmart. It seems to be second only to Subway in terms of Indians per capita among the mega retail chains. While Subway is basically a 95/5 split of Indians to Arabs, Walmart is like 70% Indian now with the rest being old white women doing part time shifts to get out of the house, some scattered Asians (Filipinos standing out the most) and assorted college aged white kids with those terrible minimalist empty tattoos.

I disagree. The Tories can win a majority because of the housing/cost-of-living crisis, rising crime rates, endless scandals, and the fact that people are just sick of Justin Trudeau and his pack of hyenas after almost nine long years. You can tell that the Liberals are getting desperate when they have to drag out the MAGA boogeyman and are hoping that Poilievre will do or say something monumentally stupid to turn the polls around. It won't work because they refuse to pivot from the policies that are making them unpopular., especially the carbon tax rebate. Also note that the Liberals are slow to react to the many problems assailing the nation. They wouldn't even be addressing cost-of-living or housing if PP wasn't raising Cain over it. Even then, all they do is enact half-measures and hope the problem resolves itself.

I saw a comparison elsewhere that put it quite succinctly- that Liberals fearmonger the same way an abusive partner would, and yet their actions/policies are very much the definition of abusive- if not directly to the individual, then to the societal pact of the nation.

I will say this: the fundamental difference between Trudeau and Poilievre is that Trudeau is an ideologue who is more dogmatic than Torquemada. Part of it has to do with upbringing. Trudeau grew up in a world of opulence as the son of a Prime Minister so he has no understanding of hardship and lacks the ability to empathize with others beyond a superficial level. It does not help that he inherited Pierre's arrogance and most likely Margret's mental illness given that he harbors delusions of grandeur and acts like he has a messianic complex given his belief in his own moral infallibility.

Poilievre, to his credit, is more pragmatic and canny operator than Justin (your mileage may vary) so his rise to prominence is that he hears what Canadians' concerns are and at least pays lip service to more convincingly than the Liberals. I can't say with absolute certainty on how he'll approach immigration. What I can say for certain that he has made an effort to reach out of working-class Canadians because NDP support has remained stagnant when it should be rising with a fall in Liberal support. If faced with a problem, I can imagine Poilievre pivoting on any given position whereas Trudeau won't because of his ego.

I think Ontario is a proving ground for that with the same configuration- a Liberal party full of ideologues that essentially had added massive debt to the province and destroyed manufacturing with an expensive, top-down Green Energy plan. No matter what experts said, they refused to back away and correct course. No surprise that with the downfall of the party that a significant number of provincial Liberal staffers went to the federal Liberals, perhaps rising to the level of their incompetence.

On the other hand, the current premier Doug Ford is an unlikable fool of a mob boss, but he will back away from his actions if he figures the political winds are blowing the other way, or at worst, one could cut a deal with him the way Toronto's mayor Olivia Chow did so with Ontario Place and Toronto's financing.

It's not exclusive to arabs. Indians, chinese, etc all do the selective racial hiring shit, too. I'd daresay it's the normal thing, and that's a big problem when all these wealthy foreigners sweep in to buy up failing Canadian stores. It means the locals don't get jobs while the foreigners start chain importing.
