The Final Fantasy Thread

Because of the level system. It’s not really that bad of a game, just fairly forgettable. There’s just not anything notable about it compared to later games.
As stated, it's the leveling system which had cool ideas but was poorly implemented. More than that though, it's hard as fuck too. It was the first FF with a real story and cast but it fumbled otherwise.
Forgettable? Yes. Even the leveling system is a bit wack, but not impossible to understand.
Hard? Too. The final dungeon is crazy as fuck. Just fleeing all the way and fighting chests monsters before the Emperor reborn.
The final battle i just cheesed him with the Blood Sword.
I don't hate ff2. Squaresoft did a better job with ff4 with story-focused characters btw.
Even ff2 introduced so many elements which followed in the later entries: wyrms, dragoons, full mage's town (even the name Mysidia is reused in ff4).
The thing is... holy shit, ff2 had 6 main characters dying. Based as fuck.

On another note, I've been hearing how either Nojima or Kitase want to try and tie the "remakes" with Advent Children. Has anyone else heard this?
I figured they were doing that as early as ReMake on account of some stuff I saw like those weird Sephiroth not-clones he could body swap into and out of, combined with Cloud getting mental messages from him not too dissimilar from those "flashbacks" he had in AC.

Crisis Core Reunion and Advent Children also looked to share some actual video, notably Zack and Cloud's truck ride at the end. Cloud has a couple flash backs to that in AC that are 1:1 with how they're presented in CCR, and in CCR they even looked like they were part of AC, and may have been cut from it for some reason and reused in CCR.

I'm almost certain Pandaemonium's design was some Wizardry fever dream from one of the devs. Imagine that shit in a first-person view.

I'd love for them to remake FF2. It's one of my favorites. The story gets going almost immediately and has so many cool elements to it and tons of death.

FF2 is about how horrible war is. They did a surprisingly good job with that theme, especially on an old Famicom game.

Most of the complaints about the game have to do with the Famicom version. It was buggy as hell. Even though the remakes fixed things and decreased the amount of grinding, it's not much fun. I would rather have the job system then have to slowly raise every individual stat on each character.

In last week I had an incredible stroke of luck and I have a PS5 now so I’ve been playing Rebirth and while it’s great, MAI is super annoying and the overworld feels like I’m playing Genshin with the way it’s set up. I like Genshin well enough but I don’t really like it too much in my FF games.

That and it feels like they’ve stuffed even more freaking mini games into it, even with events that shouldn’t really require them imo. I’m about to cross the swamp but already there’s so much side stuff that it feels like I should do that before continuing the story and I’m not really a fan of it tbh. I do love the party approval system though, and roaming the landscape via chocobo is really fun! I can’t wait for chocobo racing later tbh. However, it feels like I’ll be playing this one for a long while if just getting to the Junon Mines through the swamp is such a fucking production.

I don't think anyone likes MAI but apparently there's the option to turn her voice off. Even Chadley gets sick of her a couple times, so I give the devs kudos for being self-aware.

Well, i finished today FF3.
Man, what a game. I think the humor and the moogles started from it.
It's my idea or Sara in this game is more thrist of cock than in FF1?
Why Eureka had probably the best song in all the rearrengment songs from FF1-FF3? It's the optional dungeon, for god's sake. Sounds better for the Crystal Tower part than Crystal Tower part, lmao. Probably pretty paired with Pandemonium song from FF2 in terms of quality.

I want them to find a way to make the plot even worse.
Retards have already accepted Advent Children, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and now they've even accepted Kingdom Hearts bullshit and a battle against the actual concept of fate itself.
It appears that certain fans will just eat up literally anything no matter how bad it gets as long as FF7 is in the title. So please, make it worse. I want to know what the breaking point is, because right now it seems like there isn't one.
Is there anything bad enough that would make these people say "okay, this sucks" because I truly believe there's no bar low enough to make these people let go.

I've still got a ways till the ending but this game is fucking based

Cid censored my ass. Do I want more of him? Absolutely. Do I admire how how he's a no nonsense shit talking delivery driver? Yes.
So, according to the comments, Gus apparently threatened to make the girls pay their debts to him with sex slavery if Cloud didn't win the race? Is that really a thing? And they were kept in a cage? That he hilariously let them out of just to watch the race?

Gus is awesome. Definitely one of the best new npc characters in my opinion.
he lets you go, but immediately sells out your location to shinra for more money so the dude is pure million dollar man through and through

Really kickass theme too.
I think the only major Compilation work that has yet to be directly referenced, or have its characters featured, is Before Crisis (outside of characters who appeared in other games, like Cissnei).
They reference it considerably when it comes to the original incarnation of avalanche. Most of the references are in the remake but it's clear that avalanche actually exists as a small independent organization, as opposed to Barrett and the gang just taking on the name because it sounded cool.

Although Im hoping they bring out the reservist Turks. There's not that many of them in the Og timeline due to most of the old guard retiring/playing dead.
Was this huge faggot in FF7? The only fag characters I remember were some funny stereotypes in a gym, were they reworked into woke shit?
No he's original but I really like him. He's got actual personality and rizz to him. He's 90s gay (and I have a forlorn hope he's secretly a bad guy). Honestly they took out more gay shit then adding it. You cant get mobbed by a bunch of buff guys like in the original and you can still skip the quests to get the bare minimum half assed dress required.

Really the most annoying character id say was Johnny. He actually kinda came around to likeable in rebirth but holy crap does he have more (avoidable) side quests then he should in the remake .

Do what I do and just progress the story when you get bored of roaming around. Its quite meaty and they did scale it so it's not a pain to skip every thing. I plan to beat it and then go back and check everything out. Just make sure not to miss talking to the party when at a new town.

If they can pull it off I'm all for it, I'm just kinda... Confused as to how this is going to work.

be careful what you wish for.

its possible that they make the next FF7 remake game Sephiroth the actual good guy all along.... Sephiroth didnt do nuthin'

I miss character death in RPG. It's not even like most RPG use all their cast beyond few scenes.

Is there even a doubt it won't happen? The devs fucked with the plot so much, having either Sephiroth be good guy all along, or a good version of him joining is 100% assured.

Forced myself to practice Tifa's Theme on the piano yesterday for that one Costa del Sol sidequest and managed to get an A but good lord, that was agony. I would gladly play another tournament of Queen's Blood than have to suffer through that minigame again.

Honestly... I'm cool with that. I mean why not go a little nuts and have a nice version of him show up. They kinda need the help with all the crazy ass new villains bound to show up. Deep ground and Genesis are on his level, to say nothing of the new players in Wutai.

I don't see it yet though. He seems more clearly a bad guy in this. I still have a ways to go but the closest it got so far was the subtle implication he was possessed by jenova right before he goes crazy.

Maybe he gets split into two people, a good one and bad one, like a derivative from what happened at Advent Children.

I like that a lot better and I kinda got vibes of that from the remake.

I think it would also be interesting if he's still messed up, but because he's from the future or whatever he's gained a changed and warped perspective of things. Like he wants to save cloud and co from something new and dangerous but not out of the goodness of his heart so much as a desire not to be alone? It's interesting because I do remember cloud saying something in rebirth about him wanting to "save" the planet but not really giving a shit about collateral damage.
