Because of the level system. It’s not really that bad of a game, just fairly forgettable. There’s just not anything notable about it compared to later games.
Forgettable? Yes. Even the leveling system is a bit wack, but not impossible to understand.As stated, it's the leveling system which had cool ideas but was poorly implemented. More than that though, it's hard as fuck too. It was the first FF with a real story and cast but it fumbled otherwise.
Hard? Too. The final dungeon is crazy as fuck. Just fleeing all the way and fighting chests monsters before the Emperor reborn.
The final battle i just cheesed him with the Blood Sword.
I don't hate ff2. Squaresoft did a better job with ff4 with story-focused characters btw.
Even ff2 introduced so many elements which followed in the later entries: wyrms, dragoons, full mage's town (even the name Mysidia is reused in ff4).
The thing is... holy shit, ff2 had 6 main characters dying. Based as fuck.
