What a thread. Wow. It’s difficult to read through all the information. My heart goes out to anyone here who survived this horrific treatment. I don’t know of anyone irl that experienced this but I plan on watching the documentary and mentioning it to a few people who I think would be receptive.
My father threatened to “ship me off” to a troubled teen program in the early aughts. He didn’t like that I was behaving like I was traumatized after he constantly abused our entire family, because it bruised his ego to have a problem child. I did my best to hold it together until I could move out, out of fear of being sent away. At the time, I didn’t understand what I was trying to avoid outside of a desire not to be more of a burden financially and emotionally on my family. I didn’t want to be an inconvenience.
Even reading about how bad these places are, I know that my dad absolutely still would have sent me because the boomer desire to punish perceived weakness into conformity runs deep.

My pre-teen (god I hate that phrase) program experience was because of being abused and asking the system for help. Taught me real good to hide shit from even public schools. I still feel like I dodged a bullet given what they did to teenagers sent thousands of miles away. My own father, piece of shit he was, was likely too cheap for this, but you never know. He had fuck you money. Guess your dad couldn't get financed, huh?
Silver lining, such as it is, I experienced enough to 'get' all this shit when the kids from the TTI proper came out and begged for help. Likewise, if I smell group-think, my claws come right out. It has become hard to respect or want to be around most people since around 2012 when the USA went from "thought control is bad, commies do that shit" to "let's triple down on it and see what happens!"

It’s not necessarily a “rich kid” thing. About half are Medicaid recipients, foster kids, etc. For example, kids who have “behavioral issues” (could be autism, adhd or minor rebellion) or often are kids who have been victims of trauma or abuse. Juvie tends to be for (older) kids who did things that can be prosecuted as a crime. For everything else that ails youth, they have these places. Depends on the facility or program, the TTI (which includes younger adolescents/ children as well as teens) is vast. Insurance or kids state medical will pay for most.

If you think that's bizarre, The St. Lawrence County DA's office only started their investigation into AIR after the release of the Netflix documentary. They've known about this shit for years and I have no doubt they're only taking action now because it's currently in the public consciousness, they never planned on going after these fucks Reminder that AIR is in corrupt as fuck New York, where the "school" was simply issued a $250K fine, ordered to make some partial refunds and told not to issue anymore fake high school diplomas.

Dems are in on the grift because public money kids make up a lot of the current industry; they really pivoted away from a WWASPS like model and towards autistic kids, foster kids, and those court ordered in drug or violence diversions. So, yes, we can blame programs for fucked up autists now.
If the Dems were going to act on this they'd have done so in 2008 when the GAO blew the lid off of it and it was common knowledge among everyone the investigators spoke to that the Lichfields were dumping money into the GOP - congressman miller was a democrat, after all - and probably in 2012 when Mitt fucking Romney, owner of Bain Capital, that owns Aspen Education, that owns a ton of programs, had a good shot at the presidency. There's also Straight Incorporated being owned by Mel Sembler, GOP moneyman and penis pump enjoyer, who became ambassador because he literally paid for it.
I would not be surprised in the least if WWASPS or Straight Inc girls ended up on an Epstein flight, but I have no way to investigate that.

Indeed, many kids are in on public money, there are kids in there for FOSTER care, who did not ever harm anyone at all, and even purely private programs will originate shitty loans through a company under the same umbrella (maybe up a few levels?) and then sell it off to Sallie Mae. This is hardly just a rich kid thing - and even if it was, it's not okay. Also, a lot of kids, I think a slim majority, are adopted!
That said, here's what I'm trying to do now that I'm done throwing up and daydreaming about lifeboats in minecraft:
We need to dig up shit on the current programs and current abusers.
NATSAP (WWASPS 2.0) member programs, other groups such as Aspen Education or Sequel, independent programs, former WWASPS being restarted, religious shit, all that. The money men, the abusers, the rapists, the edcons, all of them.
I'm not sure how to do this; my wheelhouse was always finding other victims and deprogramming parents. I can look stuff up already found, but digging in beyond seeing someone else's research is something I haven't done yet. I'll try, of course, but any pointers would help. I suppose looking up to see names listed and a little bit of linkedin stalking couldn't hurt?
I thought I'd take it easy today, but then a damn 15 year old stumbled into a TTI Survivor group on facebook. The kid's doing well enough to articulate asking for help and is at home, finally, but my god, there's no escaping this. It's still happening, the money is still flowing, the dead kids are piling up, and the walking wounded are staggering out into an uncaring mess of a clown world.
For what it's worth, a little outcry against Randall Hinton and Miguel Rodriguez would not hurt, even if they're "old". Those fuckers made Finlinson and Narvin Lichfield look like Mickey Mouse. Finlinson served as a director for Casa By The Sea, which is where he crossed paths with Miguel Rodgriguez by inviting him and his wife Allie Hernandez to work there after High Impact, the hell pit with the dog cages, was closed. No reason we can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I came across Joe Nobody's comic about his time at Elan (http://elan.school), I guess about 2 or 3 years ago now. I read it all in one night. It was horrifying, and a really gripping story. In fact, I found it from a link someone sent me to a reddit post where it blew up, and it was shortly after that the reddit admins banned both Joe and his comic's subreddit. I wonder what that was about 
Finding out that this network of insanity reaches all the way to Mitt Romney is a brand new eye-opener. Before reading the Joe Nobody comic I never really imagined that it was possible for a minor to be snatched out of their bed by goons and sent to prison school. Sure, people would speak vaguely about that kind of thing happening, but I had never heard such a tale told with names and receipts. It really fucked me up for a few weeks. I tried to show it to a couple of friends and family, and I dont think a single one of them even read it past the first few entries. I was kind of blown away by the reaction that I got. I remember someone I told saying something about how she had heard about places like this on Dr. Phil. Which was extremely disappointing, because of how patently fucking obvious that kind of statement made it that she hadn't paid a lick of attention.
I think that when people are told about the reality of this, often they cant really conceptualize the scale of the insanity of it, they cant make sense of it logistically. It sounds like something that should be impossible in their town, so they discount it as though it were tales from a faraway land. They imagine to themselves that this is something that happens to people who are so far away from them (socially) that those people might as well be Martians (and perhaps those Martians deserved it!) But that's bullshit, isnt it? This DOESNT just happen to Dalit. Really all you need to wind up in a place like this is to be a child with one parent who is sufficiently gullible, selfish, and litigious. I must thank God that I never found myself in one of these places. I was a mischievous teenager--whether that was nature or nurture is irrelevant here. One of my parents would have done all they could to never let this kind of thing happen. But the other... I do wonder how things might have been different if I had been only slightly less lucky.
Anyway I dont really know what I can do or even say about this but Godspeed @doodoocaca
edit: I just thought, you really dont need me to tell you that politics is all cynical horseshit, but you do have to stand in awe of the fact that 8 years before all the sneeding about "Kids in cages", it was "Binders full of women" was what moved the needle on Romney, and THAT guy was doing THIS shit the whole time.
I still wonder how they found him in New York City after he escaped. Is it possible that the Elan staff had his whole "escape" pre-planned, and that the guy he hitchhiked with was a phony? That he was led intentionally into the Daytop neighborhood? Or is their network really just that big, and he happened to walk into one of the very specific places that would have had his photo at that time? Am I underestimating their reach even now? I cant even decide which explanation is worse.
