Dragon's Dogma

It’s still really fucking stupid to have it there to basically squeeze money out of people who are having problems playing the game, but there you go.
Some Jap explained it to me that "If you live in a country where you're worked to near death, you don't have much time to play even single player games. This is their way to squeeze even more out of you."

It's also why AFK mobile games are all the rage in Japan right now, apparently.
I imagine Ubisoft is fucking salivating. This shit must make them rock hard.
They'll have to actually make games people want to play for that. I haven't heard any positives from AssCreed Jade, especially with Tsushima releasing on PC.

Why is this a happening?

As for making a new character it's stupid but simple

You turn off cloud saves and then delete the saves that don't start with "SS1_" from Steam\userdata\(YourSteamID)\2054970\remote\win64_save
Then when you're in game you just turn cloud back on and select "local copy" when steam says there's a conflict.

Edit: Also the Art of Metamorphosis to change how your character looks costs 500 rift crystals in the capital.

Nothing in the DLC is something you have to buy to play the game, Everything listed exists in the base game already that you can get without having to pay extra or anything like that.

If it's anything like the OG one pre-DA. Then all the items will drop from the bonus boss, and there will be some hillarious method to farm it.

Like forging literal fingers of god to convince the nexus of all failed divinity in the shape of a dragon to kill itself, strapping multiple nukes into bows to create a minigun rocket launcher, overdosing on magic/combat cocaine and accidentally shitting in the wrong direction, or setting yourself on fire.
Literally fingering god for some of dat sweet MTX.

I think I cursed my day by complaining about work. I have overtime and there was a system update so I couldn't remotely download the game. Fuck.

There is only one save file, and you can’t start a new game or create a new character from scratch. There is no option to delete your save file and start over. You have to disable cloud saving and delete the save manually in the system folders.

Also has anti-cheat for a single player game. Both of these decisions are to incentivize buying their micro transactions and hinder other methods of bypassing their purchases.
What's interesting is I recall one of the Resident Evil games on 3DS did this (probably as a means to try to deter used game sales) and they got a ton of shit for it and never tried it again. Why they would think doing something similar again is a good idea is beyond me. There's a lot of things about this game that makes me think the development was troubled and this could just be more ineptitude than some harsh monetization scheme. If that were the case they'd be selling character slots.

EDIT: It was Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3DS. Even GameFly said they couldn't rent the game out.

RE4 had a lot of similar DLC options as well like cheats and free items and money and stuff. Honestly reads to me more as them trying to appease shareholders and hit metrics that want to see 'monetization' everywhere, even in single player games where it's retarded inappropriate.

Oh, that's definitely at play too. It's just the way he explained is that this is something that's been in Japan for awhile, Capcom I guess figure the rest of the world is ready for it. Even SEGA is pulling this shit on the West finally after years of milking Yakuza fans in Japan.

It's funny, I didn't look at any of this discourse before installing the game last night and playing myself for a few hours. Had a pretty good time actually for the 3ish hours I played, so far it just seems like better paced 1 in terms of gameplay and whatnot. That being said, I'm not surprised Capcom has given the MTX the DMC 5 treatment at all, but I will also point out, getting RC organically is so easy that even just playing the intro area I have almost as much as the pack you can buy for 5 dollars gives you, food for thought anyway. As for the save issue, this was also a problem I had with the first game and was hoping to see gone, sad to see they've basically doubled down.

Steam > Settings > In game > In-game FPS counter (check it Top-Left).
For anyone who decided to keep the game or are still under 2h (for refund), it would help if you post your specs and fps, so other kiwis can decide.
The wider the range of hardware, the better the decision making will be.

When Sega/CA increased the price of their latest optional Total Warhammer DLC without a proportionate increase in quality and banned complaints on steam, I thought that was too much. It went from a "full experience" autobuy to "wait for a sale" The fan reaction made them double the amount of unique content, redouble patching and maintenance efforts and apologise.
But even at their worst and most consumer-unfriendly, CA still provided massive support to modders, even assisting them to create free high quality new factions, fully voiced with imported animations.

I still haven't bought the DLC (too busy shitposting here), so something like DD2 is insane, especially with Baldur's Gate (and to a lesser extent, Cyberpunk) raising the bar last year.

nobody has actually got to the actual game complaints yet.
Game actually looks interesting from what little I've seen. I just don't want to reward Capcom's faggot ass'd business practices. It's bad enough AAA games cost $70 flat, but to pull micros on top of everything else including anti cheat is slimy. Going to bide my time and see how things pan out in the next few months.

While I want to agree with you, some context is needed.
First, Total War and Warhammer fans are notorious paypiggies (I'm more or less one myself, as I own all the Warhammer Total War products expect Shadows of Change) and they've been conditioned over many years to pay big money for shit DLCs or literal cut content from release (remember Rome2?).
Second, CA had to shut down Hyenas which was a massive investment and then Pharaoh bombed hard. So, their only remaining profitable title was WH3. Considering this, if they had to, they would've sucked the dick of every player just to keep the cash flowing.
Let's not forget, until they decided to "double patching" and apologize, the game had been out for close to 2 years and in that time, they themselves admitted that only one single dude was working on fixing shit. It speaks volumes about the disrespect towards the player base and how the players have come to expect so little, that even a wet fart will seem like a summer breeze in a rose garden.
I get what you're trying to convey, but I wish you would've picked a better example other then those dogshit anglos.
