Yes, 50$ would be fair price for this kind of character. Even up to 80$ would be possible, but everything beyond is ridiculous.
Furries are just an amazing species. When it comes to buying time consuming and high quality commissions from professional artists they often cry about money issues. But here, take 1240$ for a lizard with a nice set of boobs.

This picture / titty lizard reached a price the artist never expected it to reach. Until then the most paid for character by the same artist was a mouse with titties which sold for 380$ (see here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/19800326/)
380$ is already a price which leaves you baffled. But 1240$ is beyond words.

Somebody mentioned before that the second highest bid on the titty croc was 1100$. Just to make you cringe even more: The guy who bid the 1100$ is not a highly paid tech nerd, but a guy who works as a pipe liner. Since he did not win the titty croc he spend "only" 200$ on another character (titty DOG this time) by the same artist. (see: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/21363149/)

Strategy is to draw weirdly colored animal characters with titties. Maybe it is a terrible job full of autism, but it seems to pay fairly good

You know I was going to say this guy is actually probably less a furry and moreso part of what's called "vulture culture" - people who are really into taxidermy, collecting bones/medical specimens/roadkill to turn into art pieces, etc. To my knowledge they almost never kill the animals themselves unless they also happen to be hunters or if they were getting an animal euthanized anyway and decided to repurpose its remains. It's a creepy hobby with a lot of focus on death and respecting the animal in a Ricky Fitts "I made this horrible thing because it's beautiful" kind of way, but otherwise generally harmless.

...that being said, those foxes full of pins are...EXTREMELY unsettling, to say the least.

It should be said to download with caution, as you never know what's in them, but from what furries are saying, the ticket database is rather juicy and does show that Dragoneer and the admin team suck popular furry artist's dicks constantly and artist vs artist sabotage.

The difference between characters like Muffet, Undyne, Alphys etc. and characters like Samael/So Sorry is simple: was the creator thinking with their genitals? Were sexy sextime hormones influencing their thought processes? If the answer is no, the creator must ask themselves 'is this character interesting/entertaining/funny/etc'. If not, modify or scrap. Thus we get the hollywood-ugly un-shallow full-of-character Undyne and Alphys and the equal parts cute, creepy and agressive (the latter for personal reasons) Muffet. But if the answer is yes, the creator need only be sufficiently turned on by the character to say 'this is good, let's publish it'.

I think Toby really had his hands tied with this. The guy did offer up a third of the kickstarter goal. He probably wishes he could go back and lay down tighter restrictions on character submissions. After all, I really think it says a lot when the character in question isn't randomly generated unlike Glyde (another kickstarter character) but rather the only way to encounter him is in a certain room, on a certain day, on a certain time.

Also for all his bitching about it i hear hes making money off undertale themed commissions because "i was in the game!!!"
