That's a long running thing with arts people.

Get the gear you don't even need. Every photographer with some cash to spare has a fish eye lens they used just once.

This is like the time their camera guy got him to buy a Red camera, except actually worse. But not too surprising. Lots of gorls in design have this obsession with Pantone.
Oh yeah the 8k cameras when pretty much nothing can play 8k.

YouTube compression also makes 4k look like 900p, so it's not like they got any benefit from higher resolution when their bitrate is going to be shit in the end.
I think they justified it by convincing themselves it is to future proof their videos. I'm not sure who still watches their videos that are 3+ years old, lol.

YouTube 4k looks like anyone else's 1080p, it's insane how shit it is.
At least their HDR isn't some proprietary crap that is ran through any old shit like Netflix's though.

That's basically it, they claimed it was for archival and editing reasons.

Some time later they scrapped the red cameras using the argument it was just too expensive and slow to process all that 8k raw footage to edit and archive.

It was pretty obvious it was because that black dude mkbd was the first guy to get a red camera for his content (which is shot on a huge ass studio with a lot of natural light and external shots, which makes his content actually look good and worth the effort).

Funnily enough, GN (and 90% of YouTubers) uses a 4k Panasonic vlog camera which you can probably get for less than 500$.

Working with Red sounds fun until you actually work with one. I'm not sure with the newer models but the ones from like 10 years ago were very DEMANDING with lights.

Did they think they were gonna project Linus breaks stuff episode 10 on the big screen?

Things that actually make a video pretty are mostly lights and set design. They're not exactly shooting the next Barry Lyndon or Space Odyssey there, so why bother? Lol.

Bit of autism but the reason that people likes Pantone is the accuracy. The company Pantone is very strict with the licensing and pigmentation, so if you design a tshirt with the color Pantone 1234, no matter which manufacturer you pick, the color will be the same, so you won't have a lot of mismatched colors because of that. Like in one manufacturer the red can be different from the red in another company.

But Pantone is overrated and there's other cheap standards like RAL, Federal Standard 595 and others. The only reason that Pantone is famous is because of Marketing and they push it a lot on design schools(Free samples, stuff and more)

Back at my old job 10 years ago we had a customer where we matched the color to the pantone they provided in the drawing (a red), but when they received it they had a shitfest and acted like we screwed up. After making them calm down and going to their location to handle it in person, it turned out the color they had for their other product that they assumed was the correct color was screwed up by a previous vendor under a previous employee, so they were using a color a good 8 shades off for years without knowing the difference or ever double checking.

The response, instead of just saying "oh geez our mistake, I'm so sorry for going off on you guys" was "ok, well, can you change it to match this wrong color instead (for free)?" 30 year old white women (we didn't change the color because what judge would argue with painting as per the order, got paid, then did nothing else for them ever again)

Fucking lol. Its one thing to see if you can negotiate a deal on repainting, especially if there's the potential for future work, but free manu work to cover a client fuckup? How do you sell any product for years and think that's gonna fly.

In all honesty, unless its a luxury or decorative brand, a few shades off really doesn't even matter. I'm not gonna notice if my Hakko soldering iron is a different shade of blue from everyone else, I'm just here for the actual functionality. If its fucking green I might be worried, but otherwise you are fine.

why the fuck a tech reviewer needs to have a le funny shit and 1231451235 employees
They need 1231451235 so they can release the 9000 videos they release across their 9 fuckin' associated channels daily.

I think it was Gamers Nexus that pointed it out most succinctly: it's basically impossible for Linus Media Group to create anything other than super-casual, poorly researched and highly rushed content. They can barely keep up with demand for "content" with the crew they have right now, and adding more employees simply result in more demand for videos to cover the additional expenses. They set themselves far too high a level of daily content.

no shit, daniel owen and the pc builder guy have basic level editing and their channel are fucking great. why the fuck a tech reviewer needs to have a le funny shit and 1231451235 employees
I'm convinced he does outside contracts. Theres no way you could keep that many people busy on ltt/quickie videos. Nor could he afford it on youtube alone.
