Underrail appreciation thread - aka Serbia life simulator

Bros, I'm in love with the LMGs. Agility dodge fags fuck off, there is no greater feeling in the world than rolling up to a den of burrowers, clad in steel armor, and letting loose an entire 100-round belt on some insect freaks. Even if you miss 99 of your shots.

It is a welcome addition to the weapon selection. Not sure if it's worth the DLC, but the DLC has the Fusion Cannon too.
I'm sure ARs are still the meta built, but they're so damn boring in comparison

The devs deserve the money, so I'm happy to pay the price for DLC. I also wonder how the sequel is coming along? I know they were revamping the engine, so I'm sure it's still a long ways off, but I'm excited nonetheless.

Looks like several core functionalities are almost ready for showcasing, Styg occasionally posts updates on his dev blog. Very satisfying to see an autistic serbian man mapping out the limitations of his original title and refactoring to better fit his intended goals.

Am I wrong in thinking LMGs are just ARs that trades accuracy for killing potential? You'd play LMGs the same as you would AR anyway: blasting through the front door clad in the heaviest steel you can find.

played years ago but never beat it, went with a PSI build because I love psionics and struggle a little in Depot A or whatever it was called but was able to finish that quest. Months later I wanted to pick up the game and to my annoyance my save was gone, forgot to back it up when I reinstalled windows. Perhaps now it is a good time to start over

Never played a PSI build so I can't exactly empathize with you completely but I understand where you're coming from.

I find that WILL takes up the skill points I'd (personally) dump in dexterity, strength or agility. There are some speech checks but unlike fallout NV/3 you can't beat the game just by passing skill checks.

Really do adore this game. I have like 280 hours in it, making it my 4th most played Steam game while I only have 100 in Fallout 2 - and I do think it surpassed it's inspiration.

I did the whole up to Depot A run a few times until I settled on a stealth knife Dex/Agi build that also crafted grenades... didn't even pick up PSI at all, wasn't worth the HP drain and this was before PSI got nerfed big time. After I got my build hashed out I didn't have that much trouble clearing everything out on normal mode - but I also got lucky I didn't piss of the faceless and make the final part into a nightmare.

I am not sure what Styg is gonna do in the future, but I am always worried the story is never going to be followed up. All that stuff that happens at the end is super interesting to me and seeing as it's been years since I played it and the things he's working on don't seem to be leading towards a sequel or some other form of story conclusion is concerning.

Psi builds are very fun once you get going. And because you're invested in Will, speech checks are easy.

Just be warned each psi schools have their own hard counters. (For TC, it's robots. For metathermics its whatever that resists cold/fire. And for psi monk its the fact that you're usually forced into unarmed. TM is a special case where it acts more like a support class so you usually take it to complement your build, psi or not.)

Psi is the designated lore class.
it's fun but it's a bummer that you only really know what's happening with it
What psi discipline do you use most frequently? What would you reccomend?

I used all of them, actually. This is the weirdest thing about the psi rebalance: it was bad and good. The niche abilities are something you'll never use as pure psi character. They're just not worth a slot. Consider a pure psi character in terms of loadout. You've got eight max, enough to fill an entire discipline, with nine if you decide to go with that one headband modification. I typically go with two of each when I'm just exploring because anything can pop up.

>Generalist/Explorer
Neural Overload and Enrage (Bypass shields and CC with Locus of Control)
Electrokinesis and Electrokinetic Imprint (Kills robots dead and makes you a Shadow Crawler zapper)
Temporal Contraction and Stasis (People dip TM just for this)
Plasma Beam and Cyrokinetic orb (Holy fuck these are broken)
>1v1/Arena Fighter
Mental Breakdown and Fear (I feel ashamed I did this against Carnifex)
Temporal Distortion, Psycho-Temporal Dilation, Entropic Recurrence, and Temporal Contraction (You are a cheese god with these)
Implosion and Electrokinetic Imprint (Stun for when they stop running and basically an assured death with Entropic Recurrence)
>Expedition Explorer
Electrokinesis and Electrokinetic Imprint (Fuck Strongmen)
Temporal Distortion, Entropic Recurrence, Stasis, and Temporal Contraction (Seriously fuck Strongmen)
Plasma Beam and Cyrostasis (If you're using these, you're either already dead or making it out barely because you got cornered.)
>Expedition Genocider/No Scandinavian/Warcrimes
Neural Overload and Mental Breakdown (There are just way too many of those scaly fucks to rely on Enrage and you'll need to kill the priests somehow)
Electrokinesis and Electrokinetic Imprint (These are just so good in almost any situation)
Pyrokinesis and Plasma Beam. (They are legion and they all must die. Cyrokinetic Orb isn't as good because I've killed myself with it far too many times during these fights)
Temporal Contraction and Stasis (You'll need these for when you get surrounded)

It's tied with a bare fist madman I slaughtered the entire fucking game with as my favorite. Really hard to decide between them because they're both weaponless gigachads. Fusion Cannonneer Muscle Genius is very close to that tie though because the Fusion Cannon is just so satisfying

I like temporal and psyhokinetics myself, but I did dabble on other disciplines later on.
Iirc I made it so punching things hits twice for twice the damage or whatever.

Hope the sequel has fucktons of QoL. I know some people like replacing batteries every 5 minutes. I don't.

My main problem with the TK side of psychokinesis was everything and their mothers having mech resistance of some kind along with the cooldown TK punch went through. TD, NO, Cyrokinesis, and Electrokinesis have none so you can spam as you please.

I just used it for the passive fisting spell and iirc there was some funny interactions with chains, recursions, and a fire thing.

Setup is ass though. So my fallback was almost always just punching something, or fireball.
I really should play again, but the battery thing really put me off. Call it miniscule, but I was an energy weapons/shield/utility boy so things start getting fuckt realy quick.
