Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
This was one of the first big splits of Comicsgate; whether to make politically neutral content or make specifically right-wing content. I can honestly see both positions, but I think one thing that should absolutely be remembered is that any politically neutral content will be infested with retarded faggots who will insist on inserting sodomy and tranny shit. And if you say "No, this is supposed to be politically neutral" they will scream and cry about how you're literally killing them by politicizing their identity. The easiest way to avoid this is by making the content explicitly right-wing so they don't show up. And even that doesn't always work.

There's a place for both types of content, but the Daily Wire was going to get accused of making fascist propaganda anyway, so why not bite the bullet and go for broke? I just hope shit eventually goes back to normal and we have shows that can do both fun and serious stories without people whining about politics.
God, I fucking Hate the Cartoon "Community".

David Lynch Is Still Hoping To Make Animated Movie ‘Snootworld’ Which He Scripted With ‘The Addams Family’ & ‘Edward Scissorhands’ Writer Caroline Thompson: “It’s A Story That Children And Adults Can Appreciate”

No-Tits Stevenson: "Hey Netflix, mind finishing up my gay Shrek ripoff movie based on my failed comic?"

Netflix: "OMG, yaaaaas, queen!"

David Lynch: "Hey Netflix, I've been working on this animated movie with a respected screenwriter for decades, do you wanna pick it up?"

Netflix: "LOL, no, no one wants old-fashioned fairy tales, get the fuck out, you disgusting white male."

Total Corpo Death.
There's gonna come a day when Netflix finally burns to the ground due to half a decade of incompetence. I absolutely despise the company, you have no idea

Remember when it was just a "mail away DVD rental service?" Started because the guy was tired of late fees for video store rentals? Like AS before it it was originally a unique idea that eventually grew to where it could branch out and provide a place for innovation. Until Hollywood got its claws on it and turned into just another wing of the ministry of truth.

It's because Hollywood has always been invested with nepotistic manbabies, but by the early-2010s, nepotism has gotten worse in the industry. In the end, Hollywood has been and always be more about influence and greed, and for the last decade, we've finally understood how much worse it had gotten

I can wait for the moment, in a not so distant future, we'll talk of Hollywood being worse than Detroit. :story:

I watched Invincible season 2 and thought it was alright but there was an episode that struck me.

In one of these episodes Mark goes to not comic-con and meets a creator he likes to ask when a new show drops.

And said creator goes on this talk about how animation is hard and takes time and sometimes we take shortcuts by having the character's mouth be off frame; a very obvious reference to the show's production.

And Im just thinking this show arstyle looks like the same flat faux-anime style shows like Ben 10 Alien Force and Generator Rex had nearly a decade ago and the fight scenes aren't even complex, where is the struggle?

I looked up the budget for the show and kept seeing 10 million per episode get thrown around but I just don't see that on screen. According to google, even anime (thought many are underpaid) doesnt reach a quarter of this budget?

Apparently most of this budget went to the VAs. Is this normal? Is there some complex business and economic factors at play that make this show cost this much or is it just execs doing some money laundering bullshit?

I wonder if it just happened that tons of talent from the 80's retired in the 2010's and were replaced by their children/biggest ass kissers, or is it the 2008 economic crisis that made every American corpo realize that they are too big to fail. In any case post Trump any remaining talent the industry had was nuked.

nope
starcasting is a fucking meme
To be fair JK Simmons is the only thing that elevated this show an entire league above what it actually deserved to be.

Which makes the fact that they got rid of him for 80% of this season even more retarded especially when you consider that the show got worse despite the "freed up budget."

No at the end of the day I think they are just incompetent hacks.

Starcasting probably contributes since a lot of the voice actors are mostly people who've been in live action TV shows

That and probably the fact each episode is about an hour long which usually animated shows are 11-22 minutes long.

Though with the joke in question, it was a joke in the comics that wouldn't work on TV so they made it about animation.

I haven’t seen the show, but in the comic this scene unfolds with him complaining to his favorite comic artist about reusing panels, where the artist admits it makes things easier. I’m assuming the primary motivation was adapting the joke to the medium.

I have a feeling that it's during the late-2000s economic recession when American corpos have taken BlackRock and Vanguard money

Money laundering, most likely.

Reminder that Invader Zim was reported to cost Nickelodeon about a million dollars per episode, and is believed to be the true reason behind its cancelation. Studios want to save money and will do anything to cut costs which always peeves off the animators. 10 million an episode that goes to streaming (I still don't understand how these shows turn a profit outside of ad revenue) sounds insane and I doubt the animators saw even a tenth of that.

We need a good comparison. If anyone has the budget cost for any of the Simpsons episodes, especially post-movie, that'd be wonderful.
