Warhammer 40k

Oh, and, because everyone really wants my opinion "as a feemaleee":

I think this is an absolutely terrible idea and I'm really unhappy about it.

I'm unhappy about it because although it's always overwhelmingly been a male hobby, there have always been girls and women involved, and unusually for an overwhelmingly male hobby (especially a 'nerd' type one), you generally didn't get treated differently, or made unwelcome. You didn't get mansplained, or shit talked, or penises in your DMs. You went round the stores in peace.

As long as you behaved yourself within the accepted rules of conduct and conducted yourself according to community norms online, you didn't get any hassle.

Now the fucking culture wars have arrived. They have arrived not because of anything the "female playerbase" has done, or complained about, or got noisy about. We don't get noisy about a bloody thing. They have arrived because GW has thrown a hand grenade into what was a peaceable hobby.

The hobby is full of fucking autists. We all know this. Everyone got on okay as long as we all forcused on our special interest of toy soldiers. But now the formerly-peaceful political autist section of the community are starting to bring the culture war they engage in elsewhere on reddit and similar shitholes to 40k communities online. (I hope this won't spread offline. I hope people will continue to be pleasant and respectful playing IRL even if they run their mouths online.)

This is not about "reeee wimmin in muh tabletop ruining things". We didn't ruin a damn thing; this isn't something we even wanted. But the discussion about it is, unquestionably, going to bring the position of existing female community members under scrutiny, and that is without doubt going to make common 40K spaces less comfortable for us.

Someone will act the fucking fool on one of the big forums; the mods will smack them; and the trope that "the mods are protecting the wimmin rarrrr free speech millions must die" will be born, like the shittiest Chaos god imaginable.

And then it will be not-fun to go to these places, the same way it is not-fun to talk about video games online in a lot of places post-Gamergate if people know/figure out you are female.

I didn't want that crap in my comfy hobby of decades. I don't know anyone who did. And I do not want to receive reflected crap from GW's stupid and purposeless decision. I just want to build fucking scenery and paint small gribblies. We are not some kind of fifth column, and now there are going to be people who treat us as if we are, and I don't like that.

My only question is, if the custodes can now, and somehow has always been open to women. Why the fuck are none of the sisters of silence undergoing custodes treatment? Imagine a tard army of stupidly powerful anti-psykers running amok on the battlefield. Could this be foreshadowing a potential removal of the SOS entirely?
Or why they didn't just turn Battlesisters into Custodes or such.

Yeah this always have been women shit is what really makes me MATI. Admit its a new development, sell your female marine body pillows GW, okey, you need the coomer cash.

But don't say it has always been so. Because I hate that. And I can get better waifus from Asia.

The big shame? They new female marine models will not even look good, and will suck major tranny ass.

May as well see the carnage that ensures and see it burn. Have a cute Chaos Roon. Kharn needs a waifu too!

Roonzerk39.pngGW1953487331.jpg The latter is GW's usual fare of woman faces. Choose Chinesium today!

Edit: We all know if GW wanted to please women they would have released yaoi space wolf and blood angel marines like Twilight.

That's not how development at GW works. The Gathering Storm was obviously intended as a lead up to 8th Edition (with a big jump in rules), the Primaris Space Marine line, and the return of a fucking Primarch. Models are said to generally be planned at something like five years in advance, and I certainly imagine that being the case for a project as big as Primaris Space Marines.

Ynnari was just a small part of the campaign, an experiment to see if people would be more interested in the various Eldar factions if they could be mixed. Time passed without the audience biting, so the Ynnari were then sidelined as a failure, hence Gav Thorpe's incomplete Ynnari novel trilogy.

Now the onset of the Great Rift is kind of sort of an End Times scenario since it clearly looks like a big step for Chaos, but it's really more like a shakeup to a new status quo sandbox setting since the narrative of the Imperium being in decline and besieged from all sides is certainly not new.
It's not GW's regular modus operandi, no, but both games were at an all-time low (albeit much worse for Fantasy), the AoS release was a lower-stakes trial run that was received as it was and part of the Ynnari books involved retconning the War in Heaven to mention that actually, the Eldar and Necrontyr definitely allied against Chaos at the start and so there was precedent for an AoS-style death faction. Then GW got a new CEO around that time and started to course-correct in other regards as well.
That said, I won't deny that Gathering Storm (and Psychic Awakening in particular) did serve as a lead-in to 8th, so maybe I'm just being schizo about it.

You didn’t even know Custodes were never exclusively male. why do you care so much about a hobby youre not a part of lmao? Annoying cunts have been saying this every edition but the game has only continued to become more popular.
Why are you behaving like some obtuse retard who can't understand that I can like my hobby and not have an exclusive knowledge of every facet of one sub-faction of an entire universe of factions? I'm trying to explain to you that the faggotification of this hobby has already been observed in other hobbies and it's an incremental process that's well on it's way. Why do you cope for this? Do I have to know what Farris Manus' dick smells like from some forgotten edition for you to observe what is happening or are you going to continue to be on your gay shit all day?

Apparently the new Custodes codex mentions female Custodes. I don't feel good about this one bros...
If you play a version of 40k printed after 2012, you are giga retarded and deserve to have your shit fucked up. Why're you playing a tabletop game like an MMO? Pick an edition you like, play that. It's static, you have everything you want at your fingertips, can comfortably homebrew and balance to your groups' content. You don't want a game, you want a regular dripfeed of curated content like a crack addict, so you don't have to put forth effort. 40k should not be a storybook, it's a group of tropes harvested from across fiction and history, arranged together to provide a common set of concepts to serve as a basis for storytelling in your games of toy soldiers.

I've grown apathetic to GW rawdogging the setting. The model releases have been meh for a while, granted I play Mechanicus lol. This shitshow is up there with the Emperor being revealed to have a faggy name like Neoth. The whole reason for the super-soldiers was that he didn't want a divergent transhuman race dominating normal humanity so he made them all male and sterile. I was actually kinda excited when Bile was brought back since his whole schitck was making an actual transhuman race of humanity to outcompete the galaxy. "New Men" models paired with new Emperors Children sounded kino.

Holy shit, I thought the female custodes thing was a meme or edit meant to get (You)s on /tg/. This was real? They couldn't even go "Cawl figured out how to make the process work on women so we can have double the pauldron faggots fighting for the Emperor", they wanted to go "Errr they've always been there"?

If they wanted to get more women into the game, this isn't it. The women into warhams that I know like Tyranids, both kinds of Eldar, and the Admechs (the best faction).

that's a really great summary of all these women-in-x pop culture war pushes. the long established existing female fanbase gets ignored or squeezed out for some fictional phantom fanbase that even if it exists isn't interested in being part of the space in any capacity beyond just ticking a box to say they like it.

It's divide and conquer. It's profitable to have the sexes pissed off and estranged from each-other since alienated people are easier to sell vices and coping mechanisms to.

I really don't want to touch this whole thing with a ten foot pole buuuut:

I don't think even GW thinks this is about actual women.

I am really curious what implications this could have on that Warhammer Amazon series. Where exactly does Henry Cavill stand? Would he bow down to GW on their obnoxious DEI retcons? Or would he stand up for the IP and be willingly to walk if GW and Amazon insist on fucking it up to satisfy ESG requirements?

Also, it really blows my mind that properties that got as big as they are today specifically catering to male interests would willingly jeopardize the IPs future financial success and reputation for the sake of “inclusivity”… why do I get the feeling that the average Stacey cheerleader or Taylor swift fan isn’t somehow going to be woo’ed into loving warhammer 40k now that there are giant genetically modified female warriors that exist to cleanse the galaxy of heretics and demons?

You'd think GW would go "we're selling expensive minis to nerds who think they're too good to be crack addicts" and leave it at that. Or just have some badass Soriritas/IG/Eldar/Admech (please) women doing their usual as some new named characters. They could've even taken characters from their books and gone "lol she has a pretty model and rules, now look at this lore blurb where she kicks ass and isn't skankily dressed, isn't that cool?" Or get a hot prettyboy who kicks ass, lots of women go "Legolas hot" and then like LoTR.

Also how did banning fans animating their 40k OCs go? I thought that was meant to draw more eyes towards their Warhammer TV shit, but I haven't heard anything about it. Then again, I'm kinda mentally stuck in 8th edition and don't engage with the fanbase much.

Iyanna Arienal model never ever.

It was always overstated, but Warhammer+ seems to be declining and I haven't heard about any particularly relevant new fan projects.
Won’t be laughing when they start giving Orks pronouns and make them female

Half done, half yet to go.
