Now I'm up to date
Yarrick should come back reincarnated as an ork due to their nature and be bros with Gaz.
Warboss Kommizar Yarrick and he launches along with a sprue of salvaged imperium bits for orks.
Better this than a ugly bulldog “daughter” like poor old Creed.
I liked the prospect of Yarrik being the new Solar instead of the random faggot they made up for the role.
I knew that, but it was still a big controversy. Ironically both them and Arch tried to diverge into Vampire the Masquerade following that, with the latter giving up pretty fast. In the end no matter what alternative you go into in tabletop/roleplay, everything is significantly more pozzed than GW.
TTRPGs thankfully it's a lot easier to just shift to an older edition and fuck it, as long as you have a few players, DM sets ruleset like iron law and most TTRPGs won't give half a shit as long as it's fun. Same deal with the retarded fluff, a lot easier to ignore everything gay and crazy after the 3rd edition if you are so inclined. House ruling in TTRPGs also tends to have minimal resistance as well thanks to DM's law. So they can poz it to high all all they want, but I can play whatever fucking ruleset I want with whatever racial distribution I want as long as my players are all in, Orcs can be called niggers in my campaign and be given -6 INT and be done with it.
I think its less pozzed and more that Vampire is a hard bitch to sell. With CP, you got neon lights, cybernetics, cool actions scenes an retrowave stuff. Cthulhu you got that horror of the unknown and dark gods, D&D is going on adventures an etc. What does Vampire have? Its pretty much a very heavy roleplay political thriller, good luck selling that to the average viewer.
Well, it was pretty bug during the heyday of goths. I did have some fun campaigns, one just grabbed local news stories and implemented them into the context of vampiric society and it was pretty fun. So I do find an appeal to the setting with being on the more subtle side. But with the death of the goth movement, leaving aside the faggotry, I could totally see it cratering. Rules on the other hand...
Even if you tried to balance out the RP aspects with combat encounters, the shit always either stagnated since there was basically a soft cap for power due to the generation/diablerie thing or you ignored it and the shit got off the rails broken quicker than a 15th level D&D 3.5 game.
yeah, the system as great as long as you kept it more narrative or investigational, but the moment combat starts, the whole game falls like a deck of cards and it becomes the most tedious shit. One edition I remember had something like "play the first 3 rounds, whoever seems to be winning gets the total win in narrative" which basically translates to "we are unable to make a combat system which isn't an insufferable slog, so fuck it, lets just void it as soon as possible". I also noticed that a vampire bite was waaaay too effective in too many situations even if you don't know shit about combat...
God, I'm reminded of this one Vamp game, where the GM decided to shove Werewolf, Changeling, Hunter, Mage and I think Wraith into one fuckin' game (basically allowing each player to be a character from those specific books) and that shit fell apart super fast.
That sounds like a nightmare, I get the appeal of the whole "shared universe" tempting people, but every single one operates on such a different wavelength and power scale, that's without getting into detail that there needs to be a very big excuse for most of them to not hate each other in a primordial level.
I think some women are more malicious but I don't get hating ones thst do just want to hang out with men but don't do anything egregious, or that like it for more female centric reasons like cosplay or interpersonal character interactions and fanfic but recognize that they're a part of not the whole of the hobby.
My policy on "women in men spaces" is, you enjoy it for what it is and don't fucking nag about how it needs to change to your needs, and please remember that most of the people you interact with are autists that lack any sense of social queues, so it comes with the territory. Never forget that events have a fucking shower clause, that it's needed speaks volumes.
There absolutely are women completely into every aspect of 40k, and that's great, but they're also a rarity. It just gets tiresome seeing nerd shit labeled as some weird "no girls allowed club" when that couldn't be further from the truth since only incel faggots would want to prevent women interested in the same shit they are, from participating in those hobbies. I suppose that might actually be happening more often in some groups these days because you can't simply call someone at the game store a dumb faggot anymore for going out of their way to drive off women. Kind of turns the whole thing into a self fulfilling prophecy sort of scenario if you think about it that way, because if you do call them out, you risk getting cancelled over it.
It's definitely exaggerated. It's not so much "no girls allowed" as much as "please don't change my thing" and "I never interacted with woman so it cramps my enjoyment with buddies". Nobody said it was going to be easy for all involved and it's part of living in A SOCIETY, as I see it, the disgusting neckbeards were there first, so it's not their job to make you feel welcome. It may suck, but it's how it is, because forcing the neckbeard to "behave" will probably have worse results in the long run. Things have mellowed out with time though and most neckbeards are desperate to meet women anyway, so I can see the issue being more the opposite where they end up being creepy (possibly without intent) due to the lack of social queues, but again, you went into the ogre's den, don't be surprised when you only find ogres.
Besides that, Robotech is called Trannytech for a reason
... what the ever living fuck did they do to Robotech? Was it because of the drag singer from Mospaeda?
The problem there is that for things to actually gain traction, players need a place to play(unless you want to make something VTT specific and just play it in tabletop sim or whatever). The lack of support from Privateer Press is the main reason that company has fallen apart. Can't get product onto shelves that stores can actually sell, when they haven't sold everything to their tiny playerbase, they don't have product to sell to stores. If a store can't make a profit, they aren't going to bother hosting events for it, let alone demo games or putting up displays. This is why OPR can't break out beyond the small circles it has, because no LGS has anything to gain by even acknowledging that it exists when they could be trying to sell a half dozen other games instead.
Big point there. It's why people end up playing what is in their area. I had already stopped buying anything GW since the tail end of 6th edition Fantasy, only came back with 9th because of the fucking chinkipox and the closest store only had GW games. Now that I have another store that is a lot more chill, I haven't touched 40K outside of trying 10th once and play a variety of games since the store is open to allowing anybody to play any system even if they don't carry it, but that's a huge rarity and I'm very aware of it. Most stores have very little incentive to support an OPR like system unless it's the owner's pet project.
Problem is, every time a 40K boycott is announced, it amounts to nothing at all. The next box set comes out, it's sold out within a matter of weeks, GW laughs all the way to the bank, and the boycott ends up being a farce.
GW fans are the most extreme embodiment of the battered housewife consoomer template.
Unfortunately, GW has no actual rival or competition that could give them a run for their money. You would need a line of products that consistently beats GW's in quality for cheaper prices, is more popular, and has better gameplay and support. That, and a fucking massive IP behind it. Even Star Wars and Marvel are fighting over the tablescraps left by GW without any further traction. What could beat it? One Piece? Warcraft/Starcraft if Blizzard wasn't shitting their pants at every turn? It requires an astronomical investment to compete against GW in the tabletop, and they know it.
Agreed, that in a lot of places it's GW or fucking nothing makes it hard to actually suffer real loses. Getting people to leave the GW plantation is always a nightmare, most times I've tried I've failed miserably.
That's because they went from "Lamer Tomb Kings, but in Space" to "Tomb Kings in Space and everyone is dementia-addled and fixated on grudges that have outlived suns".
Well, it was less Tomb Kings and more neon Terminator but they already had a whole race without personality traits and that was there to be a scary terror with the Nids and having another one seemed hard to swallow. I found the Necron change jarring, but certainly not nearly as insidious as other retcons that came later since honestly, they were just robot Tyranids from a theming standpoint before that.
Well said, it takes something far more substantial to harm GW. If Custodes sales go down I bet you grifters will be all like "Oh it was us! We complained about fem-Custodes so much people are listening to us! Subcribe to us because people are listening to what we have to say!" They need another End Times to mean anything at this point.
Grifters gonna grift.
