Because coming out as a symbolic act is now a meme onto itself. Not to harp too hard on this ritualization aspect, but so much of the individual trans "journeys" are just cargo culting the narrative of gays and lesbians 20 years ago, which itself was a sort of popular culture flanderizing and homogenizing of specific gay character stories in earlier media properties. He's hyped himself up for this symbolic debutant moment, is craving that ass pats and validation he will receive, and resents that attention has been diverted away from him again and interrupting the way his story is supposed to go.

It isnt about the clothes as much as it is pushing boundaries for the coom. "I want to look sexy and girly" is like..wdym you gooner? Girly sounds far too young for a woman to be saying after a certain point and this is a 33 year old man! Not new, unfortunately. That's the term they used in the 1970s, when they were a lot more open.
