Weight loss support thread

Honestly, exercise (even if it's just going for a walk) really helps me stay on track the most currently. The more I work out, the more I can eat without starting to gain again and/or feel 'bad'. The me, it's just way easier to be in a 500kcal deficit while eating like 2000kcal.
Yeah you're definitely right. I'm a nerd so I'm quite sedentary. I find it hard to motivate myself to just go on a straight up walk. The most exercise I get is some heavy lifting around the house or sometimes when I paint outdoors I'll take a minor hike to find that perfect view I want to paint. It's like I need a goal or it just doesn't happen for me. But if I don't I know, I'll surely regret it as I age. Atleast swimming is quite fun for me, and maybe I should get into DDR again like last summer.
Also if I exercise I find I'm starving after, it makes me want to find the closest trash and just eat it all. But I'll try 😅

Considering some suggestions from Ray peat twitter fans, like having coconut oil everyday.
It's not as much about eating coconut oil (although it's a great source of saturated fats) but rather avoiding commonly used seed oils (canola, sunflower, soybean, etc...) which coconut and olive oils as well as beef tallow are a good replacement for in order to limit your intake of n-6 polyunsaturated fats.

glucose is necessary to be converted into glycogen to fuel muscles
On a purely technical level this is correct...but you don't have to obtain glucose from your food in the form of carbohydrate. Your body is more than capable of biosynthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate foods via gluconeogenesis.
In short, if you want to lose weight, stop eating carbs.

what's the best way to loose 5-10-15lbs fast or just in general and keep it off?
"the best way" aka the only way is being in a calorie deficit.

I've passed the -9lb mark today, and I've 100% stuck to autistically counting my calories, burning off more than I eat either through exercise and/or just walking, and boom - the pounds are falling off. To achieve the calorie deficit, I changed my diet a bit & also skipped some meals, but it has been quite easy so far.

The bigger your deficit, the more you'll eventually lose. So either exercise more or eat less or do both.
In the end, losing weight is just simple math & willpower, not witchcraft.

What's a good way to count calories? I am not overweight but I am edging towards to end of "healthy weight" and I need to back that down FAST.

I use an app called yazio (there's also myfitnesspal, lifesum, etc), weigh the food I'm eating (for low-calorie foods like salads, tomatoes etc, I sometimes just guesstimate), and just put it into the app. You can 'scan' most foods that have a barcode.

It's admittedly a pain in the ass the first few days, but I've fallen into the routine of just tracking everything I eat pretty fast. I've been doing the whole thing for quite some time now, it helped me a lot while just maintaining my weight as well, giving me a better feeling for portion sizes & nutritional values for food in general.

I remember myfittnesspal was good but then they started putting shit behind paywalls. Does Yazio do the barcode scanning? Or does anyone know any hacked myfitnesspal apps?

The only thing behind a paywall with MFP is macros and some other bullshit you’d never need. Barcode scanning and tracking work just fine if you can put up with ads.

This is day 1 for me. I was the fittest I'd ever been in 2019 and now I am fat and "but the pandemic" might have been the excuse for piling the weight on but really now it's just bad habits. I got one of those body composition scales and took a look at the damage - I need to lose 45lbs and I am 40% fat. I'm also a short woman so my BMR is like 1350 even at this weight.

My plan is to count calories, watch protein intake and eat less processed junk, go for long walks, do some Pilates for my shitty posture, and do dumbbell/kettlebell exercises while I watch TV. Heavy lifting is what worked for me before but I'm so unfit now that I want to start with smaller steps.

When I started using Yazio, their barcode scanner was better than the one myfitnesspal was offering (maybe it was my shitty phone camera causing issues as well, I genuinely don't know) & that's the main reason why I'm using it. There's not many downsides to Yazio imo, I'm paying like 25us$/annually for the premium version and it's worth it for me. I don't think the free version has ads though.

they put the barcode scanner behind a paywall

so yazio has the barcode scanner for free?
