The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Gigan

GIGAN

PAY TOHO AND GET GIGAN YOU COWARDS

Do Invasion of the Astro-Monster but with Gigan instead of Ghidorah

PAY TOHO AND BRING IN ANGUIRUS YOU COWARDS

Anguirus shows up and won't back down or surrender to Godzilla. Godzilla is about to kill him. Aliens show up just then and say we need these two to save Planet X from Gigan. They "beat" Gigan, get trapped on Planet X, Gigan goes to earth and roflstomps Mothra. Kong is too busy fucking his Hollow-Hollow Earth harem or the portal is closed and Mothra is dead so Kong can't come help. Earth is at Gigan's mercy. Gigan has no mercy. Monarch has to get Godzilla and Anguirus back to earth to save humanity

NO OTHER MONSTERS

Do it you cowards

They should do a MechaKong movie next
YES. YES!
YESSSSSSS!

That's all I need. All I want is to have Gigan, Anguirus and a goddamn MechaniKong fight just once. Gigan would be perfect to complete the late-showa vibes and Anguirus the complete the oldschool catalogue. I really don't give a shit about anything or anyone else.
Also Bagan, just so Tomoyuki Tanaka can rest in peace knowing his favorite kaiju finally got his movie.

Do you think WB investors are asking questions why they are spending billions on DC movies when Monsterverse and Dune are more profitable and popular than the DCEU? P.S James Gunn DCU reboot sounds awful.
It helps that they only release a Monsterverse film every three years. For the new DCEU, they've already planned a shit-ton of movies, shows, and games and they somehow expect people to keep track of all that shit.

I think GxK is probably the weakest of the MonsterVerse films thus far, but still good fun.

My biggest issues were:
1) Skar King and Shimo are introduced way too late into the film to feel like a world ending threat. Compare this to Ghidorah in KOTM or even the MUTOs and Skullcrawlers who were ever present in their films. We just didn't get enough time with Skar King and Shimo and they are supposed to be the main threats.
2) This is the first time the Monsters didn't feel huge. I mean Shimo is absolutely massive compared to Godzilla and Kong, and yet that size is never properly conveyed. Part of that is because they monster scenes are set in Hollow Earth with all these vast locations where the Titans immense sizes are lost in translation. Whatever the cause though, the Monsters never felt that big.

Still the movie came through with mobster goodness and a silly fun time. The personalities of the Monsters shined through in every scene and the action scenes are legitimate highlights.

>Legendary Godzilla movies are still boring
Is it now time to apologize to the 1998 TriStar movie?
They're not even Godzilla movies anymore, the last one was just a King Kong movie but Godzilla is there sometimes. Even Mothra coming back didn't get me to crack a smile and she's my favorite. The bootleg Mothra theme and how fast everything happened just...eugh.

I really liked the good parts of the first two Legendary Godzilla flicks it's a shame this one and the last one did so little for me.

Hahaha no.
Well, I'm still not considering it as a Godzilla movie, but more of a separate monster movie as its own, and as such, it's not bad. The CG is very dated, but it's still a fun, brainless popcorn flick
And 1999 animated series
Why? That show never deserved an apology. It was based through and through. It even had Paulie Walnuts in it

We know that GxK had some last-minute changes after test audience screenings and maybe that has something to do with the ending feeling so rushed. Maybe they ended up having to cut some stuff they couldn't change in post production.

Kong becoming the main character is legit genius. I would like more Godzilla in the future though.
They could get away with all that human-free footage in GxK because Kong can emote and stuff. It would be harder to do that with Godzilla.

yeah, as a creature feature it's decent enough, and tbh GINO fits nicely enough into the Toho roster as a quick climbing hunter monster compared to her more lumbering force-of-nature peers, it's just not Godzilla

they could make the titans still appear huge in the hollow earth with a little effort in cinematography

I saw Godzilla x Kong and thought it was fun. I think it benefited from the lack of the Stranger Things girl this time around, but maybe I'm just biased because I find the actress distracting and annoying. The human element was less annoying in general than in the last one too and integrated better with the plotlines of the monsters.

It wasn't perfect and I'm sure people could pick apart a lot of it but it at least felt like the people who made it gave a shit and wanted to make something entertaining. The fights felt better choreographed than a lot of modern stuff and they didn't try to hide the special effects/CG with dark lighting and quick, zoomed in cuts. I also like the role both Godzilla and Kong (and the other monsters) have fallen into at this point in the series. It was also very funny to me that they let Kong use the lil nigga monkey as a club to beat the other apes in the beginning. Genuinely made me laugh.

Idk sometimes you just want to watch a fun movie with no bullshit and this felt closer than anything I've seen from a major Hollywood movie in a long time. I was really surprised that even with the tribe and the little girl character that there wasn't any preaching or condescension towards the audience. I can't think of any usual ESG shit that took me out of the movie really. You can just tell when someone is more invested in making something enjoyable than shitting on its audience, which feels rare nowadays.

Not sure what the further plans for the franchise are but it'd be cool to see the next one focused more on Godzilla. I loved Godzilla Minus One too, so it's fun to see that Godzilla contrasted with this one.
