I'm an actress. Well, used to be. I'm slowly learning to accept that it's coming to an end for me.

And one thing I can't say anywhere except on this shithole of a platform, is that if I weren't white, I am convinced I would stand a much better chance of getting acting work again.

Almost EVERY casting call that I see these days emphasises how committed they are to diversity and how much they encourage minorities to apply. This translates into "whites needn't apply". I know loads of almost talentless or mediocre, but successful actors who, if you look into how they got where they are, only made it because they were or are always a diversity hire. Non-white actors are over-represented in theatre, film, commercials and ads, and everyone is acting like this is not happening. I am too scared to even hint at this to almost everyone that I know.

Wasn't all that long ago either, I watched the Lotr trilogy last weekend and couldn't believe how appropriately used race, lo and behold only an enemy army from overseas were visibly not European/huwhite, but everyone from middle earth was.
It was shockingly refreshing. Not least because heritage is of consequence in that lore, they'd even lovingly found actors with similar muddy blond hair to keep the guys of Rohan all visually distinct. Colour pallet and aesthetic coherence can make or break visual story telling, this doesn't magically stop where the set ends and the actors begin.
