Fallout series

Tim Cain is really wanting to die on this Fallout TV hill.
Tim Cain is the perfect example of why placing anyone on a pedestal is a bad, bad idea.

The last time this guy was involved in Fallout in a way that mattered was almost three fucking decades ago, and he's getting sucked off harder than Ultramarine balls in current day GW's mouth in the comments. I'm not trying to downplay what he did as a director, but he doesn't have much to claim beyond the year of what, 1998? Nor is he the sole soul responsible for the experience that was the original game. Yes, it was him working on Fallout alone for a long time, six months if I recall correctly, but after that Fallout became a passion project of pretty much all of the main minds behind the game- according to his own words. Tim Cain did stellar work helping people find their scope as it were, but the tone, style, art, dialogue, references, storywriting- that all came together with the help of the team. It was a mish-mash of everyone's favorite bits from all sorts of fictional property. He repeats this over and over again in his videos and people continue to treat him as if he owns original Fallout completely.

This reminds me why I've never bothered with fandoms or anything resembling them. Whenever there's any IP concerned, the weird instinct of finding a figurehead and claiming their ideas as infallible exists literally with every single one of its fan groups and is just fucking weird.

Eh, I'll unsubscribe and move on.

wait what? I don't own HoI4 meaning I haven't touched the mod so can you explain this? That just seems really fucking dumb and random.

EDIT: Words
Lanius's Cohort (his own faction next to Caesar, still serves him) is next to some sort of AI goddess that (I think) projects herself at a giant hologram. Lanius can either destroy her or ally with her, seeing her as more intelligent (it's a super computer) and more competent, ultimately doubting Caesar's words and joining together or something along those lines. The AI (Diana?) sees Lanius as a competitor and a future issue but sees the potential in him for expanding her influence as she takes more authoritarian and brutal means of protecting her "children." It's far better written than what I wrote but Reddit being Reddit ships their entirely pragmatic relationship. Then there's the other AI that's just pure Reddit garbage, some weeb love simulator that took over a vault or something. Falls in love with Lanius and kidnaps him if she beats him. She also snowballs like fucking crazy. There's also just a lot of AI girls in general. There's some pure cringe in the mod but most of it is still worth playing.
Faggots who complain about faggots complaining need to quit sticking their dicks into the conversation, that has nothing to do with them, to try and flaunt how above it all they are.
Agreed, this whole "I'm holier than thou on my pedestal of indifference" is silly. Yeah, no shit our complaining isn't going to solve much, if anything at all. But have they never heard of venting? Do they just no understand it? Are only they allowed to vent but everyone else shouldn't? And what's stopping them from trying to have a different conversation in between the venting? I'm making a post of two different things at the same time, it's not that hard.
Instead they double down, bitch about people who DARE to point out inconsistent writing, then weaponize their equally retarded fanbase to beat down anyone asking for them to put a modicum of effort in.
I've seen arguments over the Power Armor changes and retcons that could make up its own dead sea scrolls. The Power Armor changes range from "I can live with that" to absolutely retarded but some people just can't handle the idea that a company that didn't even make the IP they own could possibly be wrong about what they make. The people who mock others who are so fond of a fictional universe that they invest time to look well past the surface and dive deep into it are far more sad than said lore nerds. "Haha, this guy actually cares about something he invested his time into! What a fucking NERD!"

The majority of humans are followers, many of these people need leaders to follow and think for them. Only around half of the population can think for themselves (probably less, I'm just going off "inner monologue" percentage), of course they'll place the nearly person who actually can and has any sort of influence in their sphere as a messiah of their interests.

I believe you, its definitely got some cringe but so far it seems like the kinda cringe I would laugh at and enjoy.

Isn't Mexico also home to some big rampant AI that splintered into others named after historical figures? It's been a long time since I played the mod, but I was surprised at just how many AIs showed up, compared to the frequency you'd expect from the main games.
Pretty much, except for the rampant part. Sad story he's got, knowing that without the maintenance he'd normally receive pre-war, he'll eventually die. He knows exactly when and how, knows when one part of his system fails completely, it would be like watching your limbs stop functions and your organs fail slowly but surely, horrifying. He does what he can for his "children" (again with splintered parts of an AI being children), making sure they rule fairly...er, somewhat. He's still a machine with relatively no emotion so his "children" are all over the place personality wise. Could be the savior, could be a conqueror, could be the doom of humanity. If you have the Enclave Redux mod (I think this is the third time that mod got remade) the Enclave accidentally kills him prematurely and blames it on the BoS :smug: Yeah there's a strange amount of AI in the mod, with varying amounts of quality. Strange things in general actually, from scary and well made to downright cringe.

Same reaction on my part, but it's still pretty good overall. The cringe can vary but I haven't found myself wanting to shoot the writer at any point so far. There's this nignog with the faction called "The Cause," a paladin who left the big bad evil BoS's faction and now fights said evil big bad BoS named "The Immortal" of the Washington Brotherhood. Bit on the nose but I find it hilarious how 9 times out of 10 nignog gets absolutely steamrolled. It's Hoi4 modding, there's gonna be some troon made "woke" stuff here and there but it's shockingly restrained. Also, fun fact, in its infancy it was basically a New Vegas Hoi4 mod, people claimed it was overambitious and will never be much beyond this, this made the devs pissy but instead of mass blocks and bans and seething they just hunkered down and made the mod what it is today. As one of their former detracters, I sure ate my hat.

you mentioned force awakens, basically enough brain dead retards like fallout 4 and 76 players are propping it up, along with the left who seem to actually like this kind of shit instead of pretending to like they normally do, its an easy way if youre a soulless grifter to get good goy points. ie they can say that theyre not racist because they support this piece of race mixing dei seminar as a show slop just like how force awakens alot of anti types also used people disliking its balatant propaganda to dunk on to prop themselves up. someone posted to me yellowflash saying its woke one video then saying its actually a blow to sjws in another, basically the show managed to genuinely appeal to retards rather than fail to pander to them and they cant do a "go woke go broke" thing and they dont want to explain to their audiences that they dont actually have unilateral power to bankrupt properties.

so i dont think todd really cares enough to pay these faggots i think instead they just got cold feet when they saw the broccoli hairs and danger hairs taking it up en masse. id actually respect them more if they were paid shills theyre somehow more pathetic, they do it for free.
To be fair, I can see why people might've been tricked into liking this in spite of the bad writing. The set design and special effects are by far the biggest high point of this show. They somehow made a brahman look real. A two headed fucking cow. Walton Goggins also slays with his performance as The Ghoul (I have no idea what his name is) and actually elevates the character a bit and he's genuinely fun to watch for me. I know it sounds like I'm shilling for the show now, but it does have its merits in some places that, unfortunately, require me to completely forget that the writing makes no sense and feels like it was written by a 14 year old which is something I can't do.

I think, overall, if the show wasn't directly attached to Fallout itself I would've enjoyed the concept more. But because of all the stuff that carriers over, lore and all, it makes it hard to see this as anything other than a soulless cash-grab at best and a deliberate attempt to rewrite the franchise at worst.

No I get you it comes through even in the promotional material. And tbf I'm more lenient to just regular zoomers since meh young boys will like cool action regardless of context and it'd be fine if it were its own thing. But the supposed fallout fan youtubers the right wing grofters and the left wing 2 smart 5 u media literati I judge much harsher

Everything Fallout after New Vegas pretty much is just a cash grab.

But then again, if Bethesda and Tim Cain worked together to bring back pure Fallout, complete with the original themes of the game, you'd get a preachy mess whining about how capitalism, American nationalism, and reverence of the military led to the nukes falling on top of us. They portrayed the Cold War America that hated Commies as a cause of the apocalypse, while American capitalism barfed up tyrants like House who controlled New Vegas with an iron fist, and nefarious villains like Vault-Tec, which used surviving American citizens as guinea pigs for experiments.

Fallout 1 depicts a world devastated as the consequences of American exceptionalism and nationalism, and the Brotherhood of Steel which comes from the remnants of the US Army are characterized as selfish, apathetic bastards who send people to their deaths whenever people from the outside try to sign up with them. Fallout 2 depicts the return of the American state in the form of the Enclave; mass-murdering, power-armored Nazis who want to gas the entire world.

If the SJWs got a hold of that story and what it really represents, they'll never let you hear the end of it. The Fallout world's history pretty much shows that the American government are assholes, the American military are assholes, American capitalism barfs up tyrants like House and monsters like Vault-Tec, while the consequences of the USA playing God, the Super Mutants and the Vaults, brought people nothing but suffering 99 percent of the time.

The only game that was genuinely conservative was Fallout 3, what with the Brotherhood of Steel heretics in that game acting like a genuine American army protecting the commonfolk, while even the Enclave got toned down from omnicidal maniacs to dudes who just want to set up a warlord state using water. You can even donate money to the Church in Rivet City, and your ally in the final level is a patriotic American war machine who mouths off about how Commies are bad.

FNV, the message is that everyone sucks. House is a tyrant, Caesar is a megalomaniac, Lanius is a barbarian, the NCR is a worthless pile of shit, and the best way forward is to take Vegas for yourself and toss Oliver off the Dam.

One of my favorite things about NV fans is they claim to have the skills to one up Bethesda and then immediately fuck up. The Frontier was the prime example of fans shoving their foots in their mouths and making fools of themselves by making something so linear and stupid it put most COD games to shame.
I was Sneeding so hard when that happened.
“Fallout 4 Wins Again.”
has become one of my favorite mantras.
Honestly I've played Fallouts 1 & 2, and I love the story, the music and setting, but anyone that tells you that the OG games are better then the new games gameplay wise and you just need to "GIT GUD" are blinded by nostalgia. 1&2 are so fucking clunky and archaic its not funny. I shouldn't have to read a goddamn novel just to figure out how to play.
I think it’s fine in 2024 to just watch 100% playthroughs of the first two games.
Also, the fucking irony of Obsidian cocksuckers making fun of Bethesda cocksuckers is endlessly funny. "My corporate monolith is better than yours! (gargles cock)"
It’s how All Elite Wrestling fans are when it comes to WWE.
AEW = Obsidian.
WWE = Bethesda.
They hate anything WWE does and they’re usually leftoids who hate billionaires unless that billionaire is Tony Khan and then they love him.
I dunno.....hype, I suppose. But any two-bit dipshit with a maxxed-out skill with guns ought to blow his brains out with .50 BMG rounds from a mile away.
I never bother with energy weapons in NV. All ballistic baby.
It spreads to the rest of forces, too. They can withstand several shots from plasma and laser weapons before dying. Which makes no sense; they're not like the Enclave or the Brotherhood with guys covered in power armor, they're just dudes in skirts with leather armor on. The best they should be able to withstand are knives and maybe low-caliber gunfire; plasma rounds ought to be blowing holes in them.
I hate that about the legion. Is there a mod that makes them more realistic AKA the cannon fodder that they are?
That's basically Bethesda haters in a nutshell. Claim that Bethesda is so garbage they can make a better game, then shoot themselves in the foot when the mod actually comes out.
“Fallout 4 Wins Again.”
That's why Creetosis is so fucking cringy, it's both annoying and hilarious.
And he actively denies reality.
He often says “I always hear Bethesda Fallout fanboys saying OG/NV fans are ‘toxic’ but then they make memes about us.”
He pretends NV fanboys don’t do the things all NV fanboys do. Unreal.
Sad thing is, Obsidian proved they're no better than Bethesda after Outer Worlds came out. Mediocre to the extreme. Fallout 4 was a better game, and that game came out in 2015.
Obsidian’s two most popular games are ones where 90% of the work was done for them AKA New Vegas and KOTOR 2. Any Bethesda game DUMPS on any of Obsidian’s other games.
Oh look my 18th century artillery cannon just blew your blimp up.
Oh look my homies in the vertibird hosed you down before you could aim your weapons at the Prydwen which is still in approach and I just Adam Smasher’d a mailman when I jumped from the bird in my power armor.
one could argue it dose it better then new vegas since it "forces" new players on a safer path
They try to pretend like it’s not linear which makes me laugh. Like, nobody who hasn’t played the game a bunch of times can go the short way. The Deathclaws literally spawn out of nowhere.
"REEEEEE WHY DOES FALLOUT 3 AND 4 USE BOTTLECAPS? THATS JUST NOSTLAGIA BAITING!"
They’d bitch if Caps weren’t the currency, saying Bethesda was trying to “erase” the originals from existence or something stupid.
bunch of people taking the bait and screeching at a resident Bethestard and probable troll
I’m one of the few who says different things than just “Black Isle/Obsidian Good, Bethesda and Amazon Bad.”

and I’m the one who gets thread banned.
“DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I’VE SACRIFICED?!?!”

I don't really care about the Power Armor change from 3/NV to 4. I felt like 3/NV didn't really do it justice if anything as compared to 1/2. My issue with Power Armor is the way the fusion cores work and how early you received it in-game. Power Armor should be something that feels like a reward getting it, not something you get handed to doing an introductory question in the first ten minutes.

As far as the Bethesda games go, I feel like there's so many layers of what's wrong with it. The engine plainly sucks for what they try to do with it. They're working on the skeleton of an ancient engine used to make Morrowind. Nothing has fundamentally changed under the hood, and the only "additions" to it have been slapping a new coat of paint in the form of "updated" graphics (that look, as years go on, more and more clay-like with each release.) The combat is garbage, with melee being tangibly better because the engine was made for it, but the gunplay is shit. It's just plain shit. There's no way around it, and anyone saying otherwise is coping or wearing the nostalgia goggles. The only way they can make the braindead AI that cannot figure out how to properly fight you with firearms (Again, the engine was designed primarily for melee combat) challenging is to buff their HP incrimentally. How ridiculous is it that a raider bitch in a steel-bikini can tank a whole magazine? It's bullshit, and I don't care if it's "part of the brand" because it's shit.

But really I could overlook all of this if the story was good. I've played a lot of games, too many really, where the gameplay was dogshit but the story was good. But the Bethesda Fallouts are all the same with the same contrived "familial connection and redemption" story where you go and find [insert relative] and get roped into some greater thing but it all actually relates back to your relative who eventually dies and you have to carry on what they want/destroy their dreams. Fallout 3 and 4 fundamentally have the same fucking story, and it was shit the first time. The problem with using the Relative MacGuffin is that unless written well, you're not going to give a shit about them. 3 did this somewhat well with the prologue being in the Vault, but it ultimately doesn't deliver and it feels like he's basically ditched by the end of it. 4 is worse in this regard, where you meet your son (who's a literal prop) for all of five minutes when he's a baby and then you're supposed to give a shit about this character?

New Vegas, for all its faults and it does have many, at least had its MacGuffin be something that you could plausibly just not give a shit about and you could still go through the questlines and it not feel jarring that you, the gamer, doesn't give a shit.

You can TELL Bethesda/Todd/Emil had an active hand in writing the show, because the main MacGuffin is her dad being abducted. That's all Emil and Todd can seem to come up with for an initiating event in a Fallout plot.

Fallout 3's fuckups seem more like shit people just don't like rather than massive and terrible lore blunders that effectively destroy the setting. The big complaints I always hear are "The Brotherhood are good guys now", which they take great pains to explain, and "Why are there super mutants and Enclave?" Which also makes sense.

The Enclave specifically, if they were going to have a holdout group stationed anywhere, the capital of the United States makes sense.

Otherwise it is just extremely pedantic shit like "What do dey eats?" Which is absolutely the kind of faggot nerd shit that doesn't matter and shouldn't when it comes to RPG design.

Yeah there is. It's fucking hilarious. My last run of F3 was as an evil character and it was a blast.

People say they represent 8 million different things. The truth is they don't represent anything at all.
The Lone Wanderer being able to become a Patrick Bateman-esq sociopathic supervillain who can do any of the following:
  • Blow up one of the few prospering settlements in the Capital Wasteland (Megaton).
  • Kill off the other prospering settlement in the Capital Wasteland, albeit somewhat unknowingly (Tenpenny Tower).
  • Doom the Wasteland to extinction with the modified FEV.
  • Blow up the Citadel after spending probably weeks being the Brotherhood's best soldier just to stab them in the back for no other reason than 'lol, lmao'.
  • Slavery and Child Slavery. At least it's implied all the slaves you sell only really go to The Pitt to work in the steel mills there... Hopefully there's no post-nuclear Jeffrey Epsteins in the East Coast.
  • Kill off Harold and dooming the last chance to regrow any vegetation back into the Capital Wasteland.
  • Blowing up some random part of Earth in Mothership Zeta (hope it was Portland at least).
And that's barely all of them, I'm sure I'm missing at least a dozen.

Actually makes a lot more sense than a lot of people may think.

Now why, you may ask? I mean look at where the Lone Wanderer grew up in. Vault 101 seems to be a den of jerks once you look past the cleanliness and idyllic peace. Probably in due part to the Overseer being a narcissistic dictator maybe rubbing off onto the inhabitants over the years. See Amata being a dick even after you help her.

The cops don't even think to use non-lethal means to keep the peace once things get rough. Keep in mind, Vault populations are usually pretty low so it would usually be in their best interests to actually prefer non-lethal methods since the Vault needs every man and woman possible, but nah they just get straight to killing. They killed off probably one of the few doctors left in the Vault and they struggle once the LW comes back in finding someone to replace him. Hmm, maybe that could've been avoided?

It's no wonder why James seems to be the only decent guy to come out of that place, because he technically never grew up there.

Get the retards who work at Bethesda to add vehicles in Fallout 3's engine. Oh wait, they can't even do that in Slopfield (a game that all the shills in this thread seem to have forgotten). Granted, modern modders has been psyopped to the ground by shitlibs. The Frontier team hired a bunch of retards in the name of "inclusion".

Players are objectively better at making Bethesda games than Bethesda themselves. That's why Troon Howard is doing everything in his power to fuck with mods because he sees them as competition.
