Garry's Mod - The sandbox/mod game that anyone can get on Steam for $10

Which is the best?

So what is the smoking gun proof that it isn't actually Nintendo that sent the email to the Garry's Mod developers? It seems more likely than not that it is the same guy that is DMCA trolling but is there anything that actually proves it beyond speculation?

Here's to hoping that Valve realizes that this is just some annoying cunt doing this DMCA shit.

Are there ways to archive addons we already have subscribed to or something if they do get taken down?

Sucks to see that my favorite sandbox game I played the shit out of when I was a teen is dying a such horrible death rn. First being the dumbfuck ToS because Garry is a massive faggot (and ofc the whole redshell fiasco), banning servers over being edgy darkrp and now they're just removing addons because of a copyright troll. The days of downloading addons from third party websites are coming back I guess. No, I won't play s(hit)box and I'll happily watch it die on release.

The only people who know for sure are Facepunch and Aaron or Nintendo, and its unlikely either one would make a statement about it. Its probably a really safe bet that its Aaron doing more Copyright Trolling but who knows for sure.

If you have the Addon already downloaded and installed you can take the GMA file and use Gmad to unpack it into a folder that can be used with a addon like extended spawnmenu (link) to use it.
Gmad is in the bin folder of your Gmod install iirc.

This is such a bad precedent that it would kill Gmod's lifespan if it occurred. On top of dealing with retarded modders, darkrp-leaning players and a generally shit dev team. I only download NPC addons (ZBase/ANP) but if this pushes through, then all addons, regardless of innocence, are outright screwed in the long-term.

This is disappointing, but add-ons can still be manually installed. There will probably just be a black-market for add-ons like back before gmod had workshop integration.
Return to FastDL. Nobody should've ever trusted WorkshopDL. Host the content yourself and this shit doesn't happen. I haven't played Garry's Mod in years, but when I did it was all before workshop and things were fine. Are people literally too retarded to host static files now?

Gmod isn't the only one that has the workshop issue. L4D2, XCOM 2, Darkest Dungeon, Insurgency and many others.

This announcement is very unprofessionally written. Seeing replies saying these are false DMCA takedowns from a troll and not Nintendo. Am I mistaken or did Garry give gmod management over to a furry at some point?

This video is linked a bunch in the replies
Is this related to the guy who took down Workers and Resources for a while as well?

Garry posted on Twitter that they are looking into the DMCAs to see if its actually Nintendo or if its a DMCA Troll. They should have done that before making a Steam News post but fuck that I guess.

Yeah it sucks that it's happening, for not all those removed items will have backups or ease to access as workshop provides. Even though most of the mods can be garbage, it still sad to see things dissappear for good. Especially if done maliciously from someone abusing dmca laws and regulations. :(

They also changed how addons work so the game will read non workshop items as “unused files detected, do you want gmod to delete these files?”

Which is also retarded because this means you can’t use your downloaded addons offline.

For all of the championing retards do around steam, it’s worse than anything EA or Microsoft could ever come up with since it forces updates constantly and will not let you play un updated games, there’s no option to turn them off, and if you do change the setting to “only update when i launch games” it will ignore that anyway and force updates in the background without telling you. Steam beta branches are a decent feature but shouldn’t be necessary as most devs and users have no idea this feature exists.

Say, isn't Garry Newman, the br*tish cuckold cultivating a culture around s&box, his spiritual successor to Garry's Mod, where any custom content reusing copyrighted content is bad? As in, 99% of the content in GMod's Workshop that made GMod what it is today? It wouldn't be surprising if Garry is complying with these false DMCA claims and aims to eradicate GMod's Workshop from all copyrighted material. Would be a funny way to kill off the one thing that made him rich and famous.

Not only is that a impossible goal to achieve, but I think its clear Garry doesn't give a shit about Gmod anymore besides paying some Trannies to update it every few months and break shit. Garry probably just saw a Email that said "Copyright Notice from Nintendo" and shat his pants given the whole YuZu shit recently and quickly rushed out a statement telling people to delete Nintendo shit, totally unaware of the Copyright troll going around.

I don't know if Garry is spiteful and petty enough to destroy Gmod in a vain attempt to drive people towards S&Box.
:optimistic:
