Noel is great; he's effortlessly melodic and quite a funny fella too. Liam is a crap singer though. He can hit more than two notes but his insistence on growling every note means his singing lacks texture. There's no loud and quiet, soft and hard. He just sounds like a fucking lawnmower.

I'm sometimes ashamed/embarrassed that I share my first name with Liam Gallagher, but then, I'm also ashamed I share my first name with Liam Adams (Gerry Adams' brother). I could include Liam Payne in that mix, but I don't really care about him, or the rest of One Direction. Zayn deserves more credit, though, I'll just say that.

I am glad, though, that I share my first name with Liam Cunningham, arguably a better greater Northern Irish actor than Liam Neeson. I'm from West Yorkshire, not Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland, but, er, yeah, I suppose you get the gist.

Most westerners have Hebrew names. Any name of European origin, Irish in your case, is cool and based.

Yeah, you're right about the Hebrew names: Joshua is based off Yeshua, Jesus' actual given name when he was born, Sarah is as well, as well as Mary, Joseph, John, Peter, and Paul, and David (St. David's name was most likely pronounced da-veed, akin to Ziva's family name in NCIS) etc.

Liam's a tricky one: It's either loosely based off an ancient Irish Gaelic name, to do with shield carriers, I think, or it's based off the Celtic translation of some Norman/Gallowglass (Normans who branched off and colonised, if you will, bits of Scotland and Ireland) name: William.

There's the history lesson for today, LOL.

Screamo ruins way too many great vocal performances by lead singers because its almost always some retard coming off like they're trying to imitate drinking a soda cup as loud as they can.

Rap can be an enjoyable genre as long as its not being sung by complete retards muttering every word or talking in one very long run on sentence the entire song like its some autistic tribal war chant.

I don't understand how The Used got so popular. Bert has such an annoying voice. (It was probably because The Osbournes were big at the time tough, and he was on it.)

There are definitely vocalists that sound like a dying cat drinking through a soda straw, but others sound gutting and emotional and melodic and it really elevates the song instead of making you wonder when the singer is going to chill and let the guitar guy do a solo.

I don’t really know much about technique but I’m guessing there’s a lot of nuance and its a matter of finding what you like. There’s probably people out there that do like it when the singer sounds like a printer with no ink.

This is faggy to say but I think the mood you are in also plays a huge role, and that good screamo and post hardcore are one of the best music to listen to when you are sad or angry.

The screams are genuinely so cathartic and relaxing and comforting. Personally, I’ve liked the genre and those adjacent to it for years but I didn’t really start to prefer the scream parts over the other elements of the song until I listened to it on a bad mood.

He sounds like Spongebob when he does that weird laugh thingy. He didn't give emo music the best rep back in the day, and is actually a good reason why I didn't get fully into emo music until a few years ago when I finally decided to listen to Senses Fail and Taking Back Sunday.

I've been hearing nothing but good things about Terence Blanchard's new Opera "Fire Shut Up In My Bones", but after hearing a good portion of it on KUSC...
It's bad. I was not impressed by the music, nor the ebonic libretto. It feels like an insulting parody and while I respect the singers who managed to learn the roles, I hope the Atonal composers fuck off back to the looney bin.

Slipknot sucks and their cheap Halloween mask gimmick looks stupid. They sound like a poor man's Pantera mixed with some bad garage band that's totally gonna make it someday dad! :mad:

But Corey Taylor is a decent solo vocalist and makes much better music on his own.

Midnight Marauders > The Low End Theory > People’s Instinctive Travels and The Paths of Rhythm > Beats, Rhymes & Life > The Love Movement > We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service

The Low End Theory gets mentioned too much as their magnum opus, and it was no way better than Midnight Marauders.

Thread Tax: I genuinely like Trans-Siberian Orchestra with their mix of rock and classical. I think "A Mad Russian's Christmas" and "Wizards in Winter" are better than "A Christmas Eve / Sarajevo." though, and apparently that's sacrilegious to anyone who likes TSO.
