Artcow rcdart / Rory Cummings-Dise - Tranny Fetishist who Torpedoed a Potential Animation Career

All of the Tony hate lately has made me wonder what it would've been like if Rory had a tranny Tony fetish instead of a Cap fetish...

A lot of us that got into comics while Civil War was happening initially got a bad impression of Tony.

Lmao yep, my first introduction to comics fandom was livejournal going nuts over Civil War. I didn't know anyone who read comics at the time, so being concerned about a comic character who, as far as I knew, peaked in the 1940s, was just weird and hilarious. Them and the Steve/Tony shippers.

I've never been very into Marvel fandom, and the exposure I did get ended well before the Civil War movie. So thanks for the update on how the fandom's going, it explains Rory's mindset.

Edit: FYI, the Civil War comics event ran from 2006 - 2007.

a good portion of marvel tumblrinas don't know jack shit about the marvel comics. they're just mcu fans. imo there's a lot of reasons to not like tony, but the movies watered him down so OF COURSE tumblr likes him now that he's been baby proofed.

but rory gets off to oppression, so she she likes to make tony as a sexist creepy slob.

As much as tumblr screeches their "yaaaas"s about black lady Iron Man etc they'll never bother going outside to read and actually support the publication. Then the idea goes under because of lack of interest, then they'll bawl about how the evil woman hating fans won.

For whatever reason they'll only support the mcu then continually bitch about that yet still go out to see it when the new one is pumped out.

I want to believe Ironheart is going to do well because I am an optimistic faggot, but this is probably going to be the case. Tumblr was shitting their pants over some ho yay in All-New X-Factor a while back, and everyone pirated the comic to read it, and then it got cancelled because it wasn't selling.

What I've seen of Riri is visually impressive, but I'm not sure she's removed enough from Tony's story to make hardcore IM fans want to get into a new narrative. It just seems like she starts the child-genius-at-MIT storyline earlier (even though it's part of Tony's backstory) and builds the suit with her big brain sans any kind of conflict or struggle. I'd love to be proven wrong, but...

I'm willing to bet this is going to be one of those times the writers are so afraid of being accused of racism and sexism that they give the diverse character no conflict whatsoever.

She/they seem to have gotten progressively worse in the past couple years rather then better. There is going to be a huge awakening after the first full year at CalArts is over. Huge.

Also, I wonder if the reason she chose to fetishize Cap is because he represents all the traditional 'Murikn!!! ideals of the past (patriotism, sacrificing one's self for others, blue eyed blond strapping man, the "aww shucks!" characterization, ladies be treated like ladies) so she is using the feminization as a way of deconstructing Cap's character or reclaiming it? And the whole "Tony Stark as a heavy Iraqi man to show the reversal of the Muslim world triumphing over America and using Cap as a slut for LULZ" thing is another way for her to do this?

Or is that just assigning too much thought to them?

@Juscum To me Marvel tumblrfans are simply fair weather fans. They got into it because it was new and popular and wracked their brains on how they could dig their trans/sexuality headcanon claws into it. Nothing more nothing less. Once the hubbub dies down things go dormant until the next movie and the circlejerk continues. To bring this back on topic, Rory is one of these fans, emphasis on the jerking. If this was anything else, videogame/tv show/comic/whatever we could be very well be talking about Rory and shake weight Batman.

But its kinda sad to see these titles start and die quickly because of a bunch of whiny brats.

This is a pretty accurate assessment of tumblr fandom in general. There are a lot of fair-weather fans, and every few weeks something new intrigues the "hivemind", leading to an explosion of content and interest. If the new thing is ongoing like the MCU or a television show, this phenomenon can persist for longer, at a slightly lower intensity.

The tumblr interest in the MCU, to my knowledge, boomed between the release of Thor and of the first Avengers movie. (It was partly fueled by fandom of Loki, because he's hot and a "woobie".)

When the first Cap film came out, people started getting interested in Steve and Bucky, who are hot and have a strong friendship. Which to tumblr means they're obviously lovers, and gave the MCU fandom more staying power. Steve is also charming and masculine without being "problematic" to these people (don't ask me why), so his character was more accepted. Even though he's kinda the antithesis of tumblr in a lot of ways.

I'm gonna guess that a few comic fans saw their chance to engage in a larger group, and brought their ideas and feelings into the MCU fandom. So you have stuff from the comics getting introduced into tumblr knowledge from old fans, as well as from new readers.

Essentially, I think in the MCU fandom there's a small core of dedicated fans -- some from before the films, some from after -- who talk about Marvel all the time. Then when a new movie comes out and "clicks" with popular tumblrites or a critical mass of average people, you get an influx of more fans who may or may not stay.

Why do they dig their claws into morphing the characters away from their canon genders, races, and sexualities? Tumblr rewards doing that with likes and reblogs. So it becomes a more automatic response to look for ways to make characters more "diverse".

I’ve noticed this outside of the MCU as well, with stuff like Steven Universe. You begin to notice an influx of pictures and ‘gemsonas’ (aka self inserts) when a new attention getting episode comes on, and then the next day it’s like it never happened. These people don’t enjoy these shows/movies/fandoms for anything more than the few pats that it gets from other people liking it as well, and that’s not just a tumblr thing. People in general like things because other people like them (not saying they don't do that at times, but it’s human nature).

It doesn’t help that when something is more popular it gets more notes on social media sites, which means reinforcing the interest tumblr-users have in the show. The problem lies in the fan artists not understanding why they like it because they have no sense of self observation (aka they don’t know they like it just for the notes). So, their minds warp their perception of what makes it good (because it has to be good, why else would they like it?).

And then people like Rory happen, because they make the show what they want it to be otherwise they’ll have to admit to themselves that they’re just using someone else’s livelihood for attention and that they like a ‘problematic’ show (which is why Rory can target Cap, the antithesis of tumblr pandering, without feeling anything wrong).

These characters aren’t characters to them anymore, they’re money makers that they’ve slapped a faux face on so they don’t see how callous they are.

Welp, Rory managed to draw Cap without huge tits this time, but he still has pouty-lip-bimbo-face syndrome. Although, her other drawings weren't fortunate enough to have any anatomy at all;
That's not Black Widow. That's Carrot Top with lip injections.

It's horrifying for another reason I can't quite put my finger on, not uncanny valley but like... Man, I don't know. Maybe it is uncanny valley.

Humans are really good at recognizing human faces, so much so that we see them in countless inanimate objects. And we're highly attuned to abnormalities in faces.* Distorting the human face in ways that can't occur in life creeps out the lizard brain.

Cartoony lips don't usually do it, but Rory puts a lot of peculiarly distorted features together in a way that doesn't look like a style right off. So it just looks weird and wrong at a glance.

* Powerlevel / comments on face recognition:
Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, is when your brain refuses to recognize known faces. Faceblind people know they are seeing a human face, but they can't assemble the separate parts they see into a whole.

Humans in general are prone to seeing faces where they aren't -- pareidolia -- and seem to instinctively spot unnatural elements of faces.

This applies to faceblind people as well. We can see a face in a tortilla, but we have no clue if it looks like Jesus. And we can see Locria's fivehead and know it looks off, even if we don't recognize her when she cuts her hair.

I don't have it that bad. I just spend a lot of time accidentally alienating acquaintances because I primarily recognize people by hairstyle, belongings, and posture or gait, and they just got a haircut and a new backpack. And I suck at recognizing celebrities. Overall it's not very debilitating to my daily life.

I thought it was funny that if Rory's designs of Marvel characters DO look like the source, I'd have no way of knowing.

It takes skill and practice to work with the human brain's skill at face recognition so that your art can be stylized without looking grotesque (unless that's what you want I guess). Rory might have talent, and I think she has some skills.

She's gonna need to practice her life drawing more, I think. It would help her make Steve look less like a blow-up doll.

Who the fuck am I kidding that's how she likes it
