Unfortunately mermaid baby was not miscarried; she was born alive and survived for a few hours. I pray she was not in pain her entire existence on this planet.

Good, Woody looks a lot more normal.

If that’s the way Robyn always speaks to Atlas, then it’s likely he does have a speech delay. I though since she only does boomerangs she might not be capturing speech but maybe he’s not speaking.

She baby talks to a 3 1/2 year old and gives him no language skills. Instead of saying “0h, you wunning Atlas? Wunning, wunning” which gives him zero opportunity to respond or even notice her, she should be asking questions. “What is that you are running though?” Is it a dinosaur? What kind? Is it bones? From what animal?” stuff like that. This just comes naturally to a mother. It shows how few true motherly instincts she has to be talking to a 3 year old that way. Yeah, while they are running you don’t speak to them but before and after. So her baby talk is performative or any conversations with her child are non-existent. Guess they all happened before birth?

By about 4 the why phase comes up and that’s when they say “why?” to everything. “Why is the sky blue, why does the washer make that sound, why does the dog sleep there?” Then they repeat those whys over and over. A parent should learn to answer the question lots of different ways in different words so they absorb language. They don’t really need exact answers about light spectrum and atmosphere, it’s just give and take and learning words. If Atlas ever has a why phase, I can’t imagine either of them doing more than brushing him off. “Dude, I told you once, go play with Woody.”

It just makes me puzzled why she has all this earth mother stuff and really doesn’t give a shit about the actual kids she’s mothering. Surely there is another hippie grift she’d like more?

NPD moms don't have motherly instincts. I'm pretty sure that's one of the things they lack the capacity for entirely.

Kids are an increasingly annoying, inconvenient, expensive prop for narcparents. The older and more of an individual person the kid becomes, the less a narc wants to deal with them (and more they resent and abuse them).

Motherhood is about Robyn at all times. Her fulfillment and growing. If she grew up Mormon, motherhood is the most important role for a woman, which she infused with woo, and it became a real toxic combo.

The boys will never get what they really need from her, I am certain. They are accessories in her LARP of Mormon crunchy mom.

I am childless and can appreciate any insight on how little children should be prompted to speak, especially if there's a delay. But we're talking about Robyn here. In Robyn's twisted mind, she is perfect, thus her children are perfect, since they're an extension of her. She won't acknowledge Atlas's speech is delayed nor will she do anything about it. Because she doesn't follow convention--her mama intuition and infinite wisdom knows better. I bet if confronted, she'd say something along the lines of "This is Atlas's journey and he will decide when he wants to speak, not society." Just like Luna will *decide* when her time earthside is through, not all those bad bad allopathic doctors who area beneath her.

She should have been talking to him from the beginning, and giving him language even when he couldn't say it himself: self-talk (narrating what she's doing), parallel talk (narrating what he's doing), communication loops (saying something, waiting for a response whether it's verbal or non-verbal and repeating), joint attention, labeling, open-ended questions, and so on. And he's way too old for baby talk.

And reading to him, lots and lots. I know the Speech Therapist reads to Luna and Atlas, but I wonder if Globyn read to Atlas.
