Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

label pit bulls / pit bull mixes as "mixed breed" to trick people who are looking for a dog.
This happens between animal rescues/humane societies too. Family member who doesn't trust pitbulls ran the county shelter, and during covid every dog got adopted super fast. They started importing them in from the South East US, and had to watch for anything labeled "mixed."

Mixed Lab? Pitbull
Mixed German Shepard? Pitbull
Mixed Chihuahua? Pitbull

What the fuck? This is the same shit that my shelter is doing. My shelter was putting kittens in the same room as fucking shibbles to see how "friendly" they were. Who in their right fucking mind does that shit? That's like putting a lynx with a rabbit and then saying "oopsie we didn't think it would chase!!1" Any shelter that does this deserves to be shut down.

That cattle dog definitely a pit mix. That wide mouth only comes from pits.

What the hell, I checked some nearby shelters, too. Closest one that actually showed any pitbulls as adoptable is not even within a stone's throw of me, but still. My favorite part is the "unknown date" for when the shelter got a hold of them. (Same was with the other dogs tbf, I don't think they're keeping tabs of when an animal's being dropped off.)

This one I'm not sure about tbh.

These were the only three they were being truthful about.

There were other dogs listed, all of them looked like mutts or what they were actually advertised as such (like chihuahuas and German Shepherds). At least these shelters have chipped all of these dogs and made sure they got fixed, which I think is a requirement at all shelters anyway, but now I'm curious if there's shelters that aren't doing this.
Sponch the smooth coated Chihuahua was identified by an alien who had never actually met a dog in real life.

My mastiff is really friendly with cats. Still wouldn't be comfortable having her around kittens. She adores toddlers and babies. Have never thought it'd be a good idea to let her be alone with young children or babies.

The idea behind the cat and dog introductions is a good one. If a dog can be trusted around cats, it can go to a wider range of homes. Same with a kitten who's been desensitized to dogs. They're trying to avoid "single pet household" on the pet profile.

I've only ever seen it done with a restrained dog and baby cats that don't venture further than the handler's lap. One person has the dog, the other has the cats, if the dog is too excited, he's not allowed very close before he's removed.

That said, I'm sure horrible things happen all the time. Pit bulls should not be trusted with small animals. They're terriers, literally bred to decimate pests and vermin even without the dog fighting selection. It's like expecting a Jack Russel to babysit your guiney pig.

I've never met nor heard of any mastiff that wasn't a giant, drooling love sponge around all other creatures both great and small.

Best thing to do is compare the shelter photos against pictures of purebred dogs, for maximum lols at the sheer audacity of the shelter employees. They are peddling shit and calling it gold.
What, you mean you dare think that this lovable pupper isn't a purebred english pointer?

That is very caninephobic. English pointers have varied skulls and body types you bigot.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the local Humane Society's webpage, and other than the fact that the website is straight out of 2001, the most notable thing was how few shitbulls they're trying to foist on people- only four true and honest (all listed as 'Mixed Breed', of course) and only one more that might be an actual mix with another breed. Out of a dozen or so dogs up for adoption (I live in a pretty rural area), that's not too bad.

For some reason they have six or so German Shepherds, though, which I also thought was kind of weird, but whatever.

You know what, good idea, let me check my local shelter.

The very first picture, before you even say what animal you're looking for, is of three pit bulls "smiling" in the grass. This doesn't bode well.

Takes 22 dogs before you get to one that might not be a pit bull. It's listed as a cattle dog/akita and still might have some pit.

32 pit bulls
1 "retriever, labrador, mix" (pit bull)
1 cattle dog/akita
1 rottweiler
1 anatolian shepherd/mastiff
1 husky

I really wasn't expecting this. The shelter is in a more rural area, but it's packed with pit bulls. They must be bringing them in from city shelters because I have never seen one pit bull as an actual pet in this area.
In the rural area I am at, they're all over the neighborhood (I've seen a few out with no leash), and just everywhere in general. Several of my coworkers own multiple pitnigs and sometimes comment how sweet they are, one of which has a very young daughter. I wonder if people around here just adopt them because they're so readily available or I am just surrounded by retards, perhaps both.

Every shelter I check is like that. With those

He looks like he's just bumped into you on the street and is about to ask the time, while shiftily looking left to right.

Memphis has a nice assortment. The selection is only half pitbull. They have lots of dogs I wouldn't even think of instantly vaporizing with industrial lasers.

Final Pitbull Solution brewing.

Black GSD are a thing. They're usually healthier than the American showline GSD people are more familiar with. That black dog is definitely not a black German shepherd, though. The head is too blocky.

How do you get boxer out of Ceberio? If you want to lie about his breed, just say he's a presa. That would be more believable.

The color of GSDs aren't important. The line is. Workline GSDs don't have fucky hips. Showline GSDs do. Showlines aren't restricted to Americans. Showline rejects (the color is wrong) can be any color including black but still have hip dysplasia.
Presa are still pitbulls.
