We never laughed at strip mall lawyers because Nick was one. And back then we thought Nick was a credible lawyer. We shouldn't have discounted LawTwitter.
Just because Nick has somehow achieved becoming even worse than they are doesn't make them any better. Not one of those clowns offered anything more than laughable analysis, other than a couple of the actually experienced ones like the
original PopeHat, and even he didn't really care about the case itself, and arguably is not even "LawTwitter." He was around a long time before that was even a thing.
And the person who came up with the stake that went straight to the heart of the case? It was the strip mall lawyer.
I have always said that's a dumb reason to question a lawyer's competence, not just in general but very specifically related to Sam Johnson, and it has always been my opinion, and I believe the prevailing opinion of the thread, that Johnson is the one lawyer involved in this gigantic shitshow who never committed a colossal fuckup.
But no, don't even try to get me to take LawTwitter seriously, ever. That shit isn't going to happen. These are people who, all in a lot, insisted that falsely accusing someone of being a child molester isn't defamatory. That was and remains bullshit. Even LawTube post-Rekieta is better than LawTwitter.
Much like Monty's lost pro se lawsuit, Vic's was decided on anything but the facts. At the end of the case, there was virtually no evidence in it because Ty Beard had withdrawn it all after an absolutely incomprehensible act of notary retardation. Both times, retards got to be on "the right side of history" without being on the right side of facts. It's just a fact one of the most important presumptions of our legal system is that speech is protected unless it is explicitly not, and it's the plaintiff who has to carry that burden.
In this case, Vic was cheated out of his chance at that, not by chicanery from the other side, not by an idiot judge (although Chupp is in fact an idiot), not even by a sluggish, incoherent appeals court, but by an incomprehensible, baffling fuckup by his own lawyer.
