Proton is pretty much perfect now, but the continued support is appreciated.

try playing MoHAA with proton/wine without looking for fixes. edge cases like this make me hate this open sores shit.
that's not down to proton, plenty of that shit on windows too thanks to microsoft deprecating stuff. getting gwfl to run was enough to make me wanna rip&tear those redmond fucksticks, and that was when it was still current.
or shoddy shit like max payne, sure you can check pcgamingwiki for that but how many do?

Noob linuxnigger here. Is there a button combination to kill a frozen/misbehaving application? Alt+F4 doesn't always work. Oftentimes I can't even find the process I want to end in the system monitor. Maybe because it's run through Wine, I don't know.

I looked up today what Lunduke has dug up recently.
Apparently, Gnome had money deficit for years, and he estimates that they will go bankrupt in one year.

Gnome is already fucked for me because of Emmanuel Ebassi "Ebussy" and his shenanigans.
But I want Linux to succeed, or at least non pozzed communities distance themselves from woke CoCs and saboteurs.
Windows 10 might be the last Windows OS I will use if Windows 11 doesnt get mods that remove all the crap.

I have also difficulties on Windows 10. Because newer DirectX versions are utter crap at compatibility and you need DXwnd, patches. After all, you have downsides on both OSs.

Ctrl+Alt+Escape and your cursor should turn into a cross. Click on what you want to kill.

That's not the reason why that particular game doesn't work ootb.

My only answer is that it would probably end up with extreme autism and become it's own thing like Kali or blackarch, except instead of pentesting tools it's a bunch of backup, archival, content creation, "OSINT" (I hate that term), anonmyzer, compression, steganography, and cryptography tools so us stalker childs don't get a lawsuit from fatrick or a million dollars from balldoman while posting monty like memes on them.
It should be one of those specialized distros that run in a VM for a specific purpose. I kind of like those.

Brodie made a video about this the other day. Is this what happens when you hire a shaman?
Didn't Gnome get a free 1 million euros from Germany last year?

Never knew this was a thing. TIL.
I have the CD somewhere around here. It was the first distro I remember that tried to idiot proof the installer.

The discourse around it was more interesting. Corel Linux was actually just a petty revenge project against Microsoft for killing their flagship product (WordPerfect) and sealing their fate as a company. They spent a large amount of development money on it and contributed heavily to KDE, sometimes annoying the maintainers since Corel wanted it to look more like Windows.

There was a lot of hype surrounding it because it was easy to install and use and very stable, so it was heralded as a potential Windows killer. But also Linux purists complained that they might have violated the GPL and Debian was considering filing a lawsuit against them. In the backdrop you have rumors that either Red Hat or Microsoft would buy them out since they were rapidly spiraling into bankruptcy.

WordPerfect was a much better word processor than Word. It's typical of M$ that instead of actually coming up with a non-shitty project, they have to use anticompetitive and often outright illegal practices to destroy better competing products and establish a monopoly.

I think that guy just has a raging hate boner against Linux. He showed up in a Windows 11 thread and just started sperging out ant-Linux shit even though nobody had mentioned Linux at all.
:story:
He's right tho, it's a fucking circlejerk here and the other thread was only ever used to criticise Microcunt which is what I think he's getting at. Also not posting on a thread doesn't mean you're threadbanned.

Just so you know, Linux is a piece of shit full of bugs that's user-unfriendly that's why Windows has a better marketshare. Come at me Linuxbros.

Alt + PrtSc = SysRq
SysRq + F = Call OOM killer

It's better than the other thing that guy suggested because it only kills the window and if an app is causing RAM leaks or other problems in the background welp you can't kill it with it. Good on frozen windows, but you'll also need to keep this trick in mind probably.

i bet secretly, this man mains macos because one day he tried to download a free copy of call of duty and instead, fucked his system.
if he knew what ran android under the hood he'd lose his mind.

That's not correct, Ctrl+Alt+Escape kills the whole process.

it did. https://linuxiac.com/gnomes-receives-one-million-boost/
but that's the german government for ya, they could've dumped that into opensuse and from there into KDE, especially since that is actually located in germany and economy yadda yadda. nah rather give it to redhat's cocksleeve.

This substantial investment is set to catalyze the modernization of the GNOME platform, advancing tooling, accessibility, and public interest features.
lul I doubt gnome devs see a use case for that.
that's a nice grift, or some of the gnome devs really suck some mean cock.

nah, first you have to understand he's a microcuck (to the point he becomes an utterly unhinged console warrior if you just as much question his understanding of ergonomics), so talking shit about microsoft immediately triggers his report/sperg-reflex like a resetera-troon.

then look at the thread itself, just pointing out that yes, windows does itself restart on it's own to update you get dipshits coping hard and running a marathon with the goalposts that you use it wrong, use your desktop wrong (because no one ever keeps his pc/laptop running over night for downloads or outright forgets it, if they don't just hibernate the session to not have it open again constantly)... anyway it's your fault for not watching your operating system 24/7 like a hawk.

or like yesterday I had the pleasant surprise of windows 11 bluescreening just for plugging in the ethernet cable (also see here, which means this issue still isn't fixed btw), which is kinda severe. not a problem on win10, not a problem on linux, turns out win11 ships with a realtek driver from fucking 2015. update it and your golden. but now imagine "the average person" doing that, which is their go-to argument; windows just works, linux doesn't.
fuck I probably couldn't even mention linux in this case to not get reported for being a "fanboy" and getting softly fondled by the jannies again.

basically it's the equivalent of this:

Agreed. I remember the first web browser I ever used was Netscape in college and at local libraries. When I first saw Internet Explorer I was like what is this shit? And I still wonder that, long after I found out IE basically was a meme among non-normies. Or as ED said "a program you use once to download another browser and then never use again."
