Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

I did the same too.

What made me realise that it was all going into the trash, was a Kotaku article I think that the writer instead of reviewing or talking about a game event he was attending, he was just complaining that he didn't wanted to be there, and he was just talking about everything but the event or the games presented there. Can't remember who he was, but that "article" was my breaking point.
I think it was a Rockband press event where the guy would rather be talking about politics in the Philippines or some shit instead.

Lists that fucking refresh to the op when going back into them

If I click into item #194 to see if that's the thing I want and go "nope" and go back to the list I don't want to be thrown back up to item #1 again fuck off

several websites and programs do this annoying shit
The capacity to index scares the niggercattle (and stops them from scrolling past all the ads """quality content""" all over again)

There's an upcoming trend that worries me. A lot of big companies will ban you for hosting/using their services for stuff they don't like.

For example, Google started banning people for putting copyrighted materials on their private drives. Bing/chatGPT will outright ban you if you give it prompts that the company does not like.

This kind of shit will get a lot worse when companies see they can get away with this. What are you gonna do? File a class action lawsuit? That's a $500 fine for them in 10 years from now, that is if you have a case.

Me miss atlatl and me like horsie

Now day everything so complicate. No me don't want gun. Gun make loud boom, deer get scare, me get scare. Always miss, and me hurt friend arm. Me say its accident but he no like me now.

Car loud and fast. Me drive car and me scare. Me accident hit little 'un. Me feel bad, guy in blue say me no drive again. Me like that, me use horsie.

Me prefer atlatl. It quiet, deer no get away. Me like horsie, it eat apple and it pretty. Horsie no hurt little uns.

I absolutely hate VR I think it's stupid and people wearing it look retarded.

The tech I love though are DVD players. I'm not a fan of Blu-ray, nothing wrong with it just not for me. But DVD players and DVDs. Something about it I just can't get enough of it. I have a whole DVD collection and one portable DVD player, plus a DVD player I have always hooked up to my TV. There's nothing like putting in a good movie and watching the bonus features. Also off topic but I feel we made a big mistake by getting rid of cable.

We did? Where did it go? My elderly mother still has cable, it hasn't gone anywhere except to become far less popular then it used to be, and all the ads targetting boomers and older with health insurance and home equity scams along with gimmick bathtubs and shyster lawyers.

Proximity sensors on cars.

I was driving a rental car in a rural area. This car got regularly pissed off at me because a few blades of grass were too high in many directions. I could have figured out how to turn it off, but I was too busy or tired to think about it.

The only thing worse is an autoplay video on said article, that takes you back to the top of the page once it loads and starts playing, and you cannot scroll down unless you pause/close.

I also do not like how some videos will pause if you click to a different tab.

Gotta drive those engagement numbers up. Even if most people just leave the video playing in the background and don’t take any notice of the “content”

You know what's garbage? A lot of modern websites do that stupid shit where you can't just scroll up and down normally. They copy what Apple does, and you have to scroll down forever just to get past some animation that takes 5 seconds to scroll through, then can only scroll down a little ways further until you have to do it again for yet another animation.

I miss old looking websites. Everything was right there, no BS animations or unnecessarily bloated content to scroll through, just what you need right there immediately.

Google started banning people for putting copyrighted materials on their private drives.
The words 'Google' and 'private' do not belong together. There is absolutely nothing private about them. Also speaking of Google, their Gmail service is junk - at least back when I used it (can't say for sure now) there is no way to actually block an email address. Your only option is to report spam, but there is no "BLOCK" button. My conspiracy theory on that is they just want more emails going in and out (and taking up more of your space), but I can't actually prove that. Either way, they are just an awful company as a whole, and we really don't need them anymore.

Sure, DuckDuckGo search is also a sellout to censoring for political reasons, and their search engine isn't the greatest yet. I think it's at least acceptable, and I would use it before ever trusting a Google search, not to mention you can just buy your way to the top of a Google search, which is how so much garbage adware gets on people's machines (impersonating websites).

Yandex has a long way to go before I would call it usable outside of Russia in my opinion.

You can't run an adblocker on cable.

Thread tax: I miss when companies didn't try to trick people into viewing sponsored content, it was less annoying when ad links on Google were distinctly green and it showed they had confidence in the quality of their product to grab your attention

Those who see critics of "smartphones" as "smartphone bad" people may argue opposition to "smartphones" is a kind of projection. The reality is that carrying an internet-connected device almost 24-7 is new, "smartphones" contribute to -- if not cause -- that "real life is getting cancelled" and "tech oversaturation" feel, "smartphone zombies" are definitely real, there's studies showing how too much "smartphone" use is detrimental, and "smartphones" along with "social media" is arguably what enabled Current Year Clown World.

yea the bing 'ai' summaries often are just exactly what the top result says, but if you start talking to it it gets a lot smarter so i think the summary is as cheap as it possibly can be

Remember the first time you read some AI response and suddenly thought "holy fuck this was smarter than I would have said."

I remember talking to GPT-3 and wondering if they did something unethical by creating the thing. It doesn't really talk like that anymore, though.

No, because I’m extremely narcissistic.

Real answer: The first time I saw GPT 3 give correct procedures for radiology word problems without any additional human input.
Scared the shit out of me.
