Texas used to be reliably Democrat. The values of the people living here didn't change even though the party did. There are 254 counties in Texas and most of them are completely rural. Political power in Texas comes from those rural areas because that's where the natural resources are. They did this with the Ahmaud Arbery shooters too. The DoJ dug up some old racists texts messages that had nothing to do with the shooting and used them to get hate crime convictions on all 3 defendants even though there was no evidence of racial animus contemporaneous to the actual shooting.

Their state case had some legitimate appealable issues which is why the DoJ came in and charged them so that if they did have any remedy with their appeals, the federal case would still keep them in prison for the rest of their lives.

Scrub anything that has your name on it because it will be weaponized against you if a chimp decides they want to kill you and you dare defend yourself.
