I don't think you're reading between the lines. Any concept learned from tumblr is very basic, but anything any normal person would understand like breathing or eating a hamburger is complex.

So understanding how to take care of a pet or doing anything like an independent person must be an astronomical concept for Shmorky.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We ought to teach Shmorky more basic concepts like personal hygiene and conversing with a normal speaking voice before we move on to larger tasks like caring for another life form.
