I think the difference is in the original Japanese versions things like Birdo and Vivian were kind of played up for comedy. Here it's being treated like serious business.

The moment they announced this remake I knew they'd do this, but I'm still finding myself disappointed. Now even a childhood favorite of mine can’t be brought up without troons shitting up the place.

I don’t think I’ve ever hated Nintendo more than I do now. Every time I want to talk about one of my all-time favorite games, I have to clarify that I’m talking about the original and not the terrible new version. Every time I see anything about one of my favorite original characters from said game, troons will turn her into a status symbol for highly destructive and divisive political ideologies. Kids and teens who have listened to older fans refuse to shut up about how good Paper Mario’s writing used to be will play this remake and wonder how anyone could like this mess of a script. And the “fans” who have been demanding this remake for years? They’ll treat it like gold and act like nothing’s wrong, because they finally got their remake, quality be damned. They’ll treat this monkey’s paw like a gift from God and praise it for years to come.

They could have just taken the original game, made it widescreen, did a lazy AI upscale like with Mario 3D All Stars, made a few rom hack-tier quality of life improvements, and slapped on a $60 price tag and it would have at least been good enough. All they had to do was not go out of their way to fuck it up, and they couldn’t even do that.

And despite all of that, Nintendo is still nowhere near as bad as Sony or Microsoft. Modern video games suck.

I mean, I had no interest in buying this "remaster" because I'd already beaten the Gamecube OG many times when I was younger. So seeing that Nintendo's localization wants those sweet, sweet DEI brownie-point bucks makes me want it even less. Not only that, I'm now actively rooting that this remake turns out to be a financial dud, but alas, there seems to be quite the number of pre-orders.

That's the last big game until Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. I wonder what they'll be revealing in June? Besides more ports, obviously.

It's a Bridget situation, which for the longest time had absolutely nothing to do with them "realizing they were a girl." They were an otoko no ko. A more accurate move would have been to make Vivian say they were a guy who just loves girly things.

Same exact pattern. They can say a thousand times they're a boy, that there was no transition, but after the fact they'll change it because if they do not troons will throw a bitchfit.

They're claiming that "Vivian was always trans, therefore the new translation is accurate" when in actuality, it is as you said - Vivian was an effeminate man in the original Japanese, and therefore, the new translation is NOT accurate, and was just done for woke good boy points. It's not only the fact that they changed it - that's insulting enough. It's the fact that they're actually trying to gaslight people - and yes, you troon faggots who just so happen to be reading this, that is EXACTLY what you're doing - into believing that this is what the original Japanese intended.

Yeah, I was peaked on troons before, but I'm double-peaked now.

To be fair, this is more accurate to the Japanese original of Vivian being an otokonoko, or “male daughter”. I mean let’s be real, troons are not and will never be real women so in a way, this is an acknowledgment of that. For that reason alone, I’m willing to let it slide despite the clear troon pandering.

Removing Mario’s salute, on the other hand, is a line crossed. We’re supposed to believe that kids are going to support the Fourth Reich the moment they see a salute that vaguely and unintentionally resemble the Nazi salute if it was kept when it reality, it’s Nintendo being cowards yet again.

Fuck this sanitized remake in the ass. I’m emulating the original when I decide to replay it.

I’m speaking in technicality. People instinctively know that troons are not real women, it’s just that most play along if they don’t want to lose friends or worse. The long-term implications are concerning, but I interpret it as Blackrock forcing Nintendo’s hands rather than a sincere belief in the troon propaganda.

I understand but I am saying that the new version is not at all more accurate, it's just inaccurate in a different way. Otokonokos are generally not troons, so they are again localizing Vivian into something they are not.

Only this time some people are going to be lying faggots about it.
