Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I miss Warmind, that's about it. Red War was capeshit-tier, almost as bad as Lightfall, Curse of Osiris definitely existed, and rewrote some characters to be absolute fucking losers like Brother Vance and arguably Osiris. The surrounding lore is definitely much stronger now than it was back then, with the notable exception of the Winnower turning out to be fucking Walmart Megamind instead of an actual unknowable cosmic force.
Red War was indeed capeshit tier: Slop but with some enjoyable parts. Warmind was alright but Mars was very cool, as always. As crazy as it sounds, I've actually grown to like Curse of Osiris even though it made me and 90% of the playerbase quit back in the day. The reason is simple: Back then, Osiris used to be an actually decent character. He was strong, he was competent, he had cool things to say. Night and day from his current state where he's a sadsack old man who everyone either feels sorry for or looks down on. Also he's openly gay with Saint-14 which is just weird. You just know the writers think they did something; "Hey guys, what if a Guardian lost their light and has to cope with being a normal person!?" Very clever and subversive.
But hey, Bungie is one mediocre expansion away from having all of their leadership forcibly replaced by Sony, and everything good they've ever made barring Halo 3 was made in the depths of "It's so over", so I'm not completely pessimistic about them being able to wrap it all up decently. The Marathon connection at the 11th hour would be fucking kino though, so they won't do it, which makes me sad.
Man they were not prepared for the blowback they got from Lightfall. A whole storyline where the big macguffin goes awkwardly unexplained and everyone talks like they're actively avoiding asking any big questions.

They could have tried that with forsaken when Cayde's ghost got sniped. But "TRANS@BUNGIE, WOMEN@BUNGIE" and other political virtue signaling takes priority over adding an actual story and loot on a more frequent basis apparently. At least they fired those lazy glownigger faggots.

There's more of a story to the developers narcissism around making stuff for the project via these hour long vidocs where they stroke their egos the entire time than the in game story itself.

Sony or literally anyone other than bungie and their bullshit neglect would do a better job with this franchise. All they needed to do is add a fuck ton of loot to grind for in game on a monthly basis and some procedurally generated nephalem rift-esque strikes that take themselves seriously. That's it. Its basically what Helldivers 2 did at launch as its core gameplay design and they had an unprecedented level of success. Also don't lock 90% of the loot behind a cash shop.

Console hardware figures are faked, as are MAU numbers on the majority of games. The whole industry is seeing a massive contraction but you're told not to believe your lying eyes and that the piss dribbling down your back is really rain.
Numbers are bloated and inflated to keep the industry looking healthy. People go along with it under the believe that the industry is getting more and more popular and more players join every generation, it's a lie. 150 million PS2's sold, 150 million Wii's sold, 150 million Switch consoles sold, 150 millions PS360s were sold.

It's a house of cards that is allowed to stand because games are not the game in the industry anymore. The game is the drama and outrage that generates more revenue through news, streams, tiktok and youtube videos than the game itself could generate in a generation.

The only crowd funded game that actually came out and was good was Bloodstained. Penny Blood the Shadow Hearts spiritual successor will possibly be the second.

Remains to be seen.
Hey, don't crush my hopes of a good Wild Arms spiritual successor so brutally. Isn't Armed Fantasia part of the Penny Blood kickstarter?

Nobody liked the infinite/spooky forest.
The only good thing about Destiny was its weapons platform. I really liked how different rolls could feel and perform.

Yooka-Yaylee is good. There's probably more, I'd assume. Kickstarter mainly got a bad name because of Might No. 9, and maybe Shenmue 3 (haven't played it but people bitch about it).

Wasn't Blasphemous kickstarted too? That's a fantastic game.
I think it was, actually. Shovel Knight comes to mind too, which was really good.

That genre of platformer should've stayed dead at the N64 era. There's nothing fun about having to FIND shit scattered around a big level.
It's an awesome genre, Mario still uses it to this day. It's just that it is a difficult one to make good. I was probably pretty generous in calling YL "good", it is more like decent.

Yo dude, how many Autisms Per Minute you got? needs more, push it to 4k, it needs more so its better.

You know, its kinda strange how thats not limited to RTS games, its something that exists all over, well everything.

Yo dude, this guitarist is sick, he plays so many notes and sweep picks all over the place. Sounds fucking gay, but its so technical it must be good.

Yo dude, this drummer is sick, look how many times he can hit the bass drum in minute. Check out his competitive speed drumming (thats a thing)

Yo dude, check out this painting, its huge and used gallons of paint, its amazing. Look at this big gay rock, its huge, you walk under it.

Yo dude, this movie took 12 years to make, its amazing. Also this one has one continuous shot for 18 minutes, beating the previous holder of the title for longest shot in a film.

And so on and so on. I think its the hallmark of those with no imagination.
It's less the "No Imagination" and more of the "I'm pretentious because I can enjoy this vapid technical stuff".

Like with neoclassical metal, there's at least solid riffs and other things to sink your teeth into, and a lot of the shredding still served the song. Now it's a bunch of "betcha can't play this" type beats that only a handful of autists/other people in a similar field would dig.

When it comes to RTS I don't think it was just Esports that killed it, to me it's that the rise of accessible information made it so that players would know the optimal strategies and with that they all stopped feeling like games you dicked around with and more like work. I never memorized build orders in Starcraft or Warcraft 3, I just did what made sense to me as a player. That changed time with Starcraft 2, Starcraft 2 it felt like even newbie casuals were expected to be at the top of their game.

MOBAs didn't usurp the genre just because they're far more easy on a ground level. MOBAs have a shitload of complicated variables, variables that make it so there's not a simple streamlined process. There's no two games of DOTA2 that are likely to play out the same way.

That's the most infurating part about it. In the original Japanese, Vivian was an EFFEMINATE MAN.

and yet these motherfuckers have the AUDACITY, the sheer, unrepentant GALL, to claim that making Vivian a troon is "ackshually MORE accurate to the original Japanese".
THIS IS A STEP ABOVE REMOVING CONTEXT. THEY'RE CREATING NEW CONTEXT. THEY KNOW THAT THEIR ENTIRE ARGUMENT, AND THUS, THIS CHANGE, IS COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT. TOTAL. TRANNY. DEATH.

*sigh* give me my top hats.

Don't care about chuds reeing and making everything a personal crusade.. I'm buying Thousand Year Door tonight, Jesus fuck between this and Stellar Blade crying it's all so tiresome and to be honest none of this bullshit will kill my comfy.
Why are you upset about two lines of dialogue when you admitted you had a better alternative? Granted, I've never played Paper Mario but localization can always go either way over time.

This is one reason why I think Psychonauts really did deserve the poor sales it got at release. It has some interesting ideas but it's a 3D platformer with all the frustrations that came with that genre and a collectathon to boot.
