Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Most of the cost comes from the "new" design, materials used, the paint job and the extra branding. The paint doesn't feel like it'll scratch easily nor does it feel like they caked it on. I've had some diecast cars in the past where all I needed to do was scratch the paint with my nail and it would come off while others would rub away if you handled them too much. Your posts tend to come off as someone who's not a collector of collectible items.

Nearly every post I've made in this thread since the first fucking page has been about the various things I've been collecting lmao. Just because I don't see the quality to price ratio, the fact I openly despise the recent price hiking shit that's been happening, as well as scalpers pricing me out of my own hobbies, doesn't mean my posts come off as "not a collector of collectible items".

pre ordered the missing link bumblebee figure cause it looked cool, not a big collector by any means, just like the figures themselves and the source material.

It reminds me of the impossible toys figures that did a similar thing with g1 bumblebee years back. They didn't sell super well or were overproduced for how niche of an item they were. Whatever the case, eventually some places were selling the whole set on discount for $30. I missed the sale on those before they sold out but they were pretty neat.

I tried looking up video reviews of the whole set and holy fuck that was 10 years ago now?

I would have gotten them for me and my son but they're close to $80cad each. I could get a few 3rd parties for that. If I see them on clearance I may get them.

It was a honestly a bit dumb to get it while still not being absolutely financially secure even when its $50 here, lol.

At least when I bought the Hot Wheels Optimus Prime it felt premium. These are just the original toys with additional articulation.

The hotwheels optimus is just a smaller version of g1 optimus prime. Both the missing link figures and the hotwheels optimus achieve what they seek to do pretty well in my opinion but I also agree the price is too high. However, g1 reissues the last few years ave for a few exceptions have been stupid expensive as well. The g1 optimus reissue from a few years back that lacked the trailer's MSRP was 50 dollars or some wacked out shit . I got both it and the hot shot on clearance for $13 and $7 or something like that and still haven't opened either because despite being in a g1 style box it lacks the actual resealable nature of g1 boxes due to it being held in by twist ties instead of a tray shaped to comfortably hold the figure. Missing link optimus follows the trend of the reissues with making buying it with the trailer over 100 dollars.Missing link otpimus is the only one of these reissues I see a "value" in the price due to the severe extent they took to make the figure look like the g1 toy. What I REALLY don't like is how at the price they charge for it the on-trailer version has to rely on stickers for paint details while the version with the trailer has really cool painted and sclulpted bits where there were stickers on the original figure.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how every reissue of g1 optimus with the trailer the last 10 years as well as almost every g1 reissue the last 8 or so years also gutted the trailers launching missiles but this one adds the feature back. I guess that 100 something dollars wasn't worth a spring in the budget until now? Joking obviously but holy fucking shit it's never not been annoying to find out there was no spring for the missile launchers in reissues and seeing reviewers that blew money on the things try to justify it with "oh but safety standards are different now!!!".

Am I a bad collector for opening up the packaged ones I get? I'm way too autistic to keep most things wrapped up. I'm guessing it's just preferences at this point.
Only if you're one of the people that thinks it being sealed=super infinite money. I've opened up pretty much everything I've gotten if it's new and not used. Sometimes also with stuff like transformers and other toylines actually staying in the box for too long can cause weird shit to happen to the plastic depending on what year the thing was produced so that's another vector to be aware of if you DO intend on keeping shit in box.

I rarely keep stuff in packaging unless it looks nice and has a window. Otherwise it takes up too much room. I'd rather my books and RPG materials take up that space. Old blister cards aren't bad to keep up though if they're small and the plastic shell hasn't yellowed. Some of my mini bots and Minicons are still sealed since I have doubles and old school g1 cards just look good. Same goes with a few MotU characters. I wasn't much of an TMNT guy but I have the main characters carded as they don't take up much space. I have a few military vehicles that are behind acrylic boxes so they'll never collect dust and some pieces of artwork I have framed from old comic artists I liked from the 70's and 80's before comic art started to look like shit. I also have some older collectable statues but they're dragons so some of them I use them for RPG's. others remind me of the old fantasy novels I read from the 70s and 80's. Like the Legendes Eternelles Dolmen le Dragon statue looks similar to how dragons were drawn back than.
I also have a few Hot Wheels I've collected over the decades still sealed as they're nice and small as well as some old Micromachine sets.

This would make for a good General Optimus Prime than the TFC Toys Prime I've been using

Hopefully they'll do a trailer for him. Kind of pointless to have a tank carrier without one.

After rewatching Transformers Prime for a bit, I lamented the missed potential with the show. It was, for all intents and purposes, a darker, sleeker G1. Why they ended it after 2 and a half seasons and killed off some of the best characters, ie. Silas and Dreadwing, is beyond me. It should have at least 5-7 seasons like the Clone Wars animated show.

So with Fantoys Soundblaster recolour they're bringing out a Ratbat, Buzzsaw, Overkill, Slugfist and Scout tapes for it. While I wish Mastermind would work on more of theirs as I prefer larger ones, it'll at least be nice to have some that fit in Soundblaster.

Hasbro really doesn't have a clue what they're doing with their products.

A fellow farmer on here told me that they had plans to do a space pirates subplot and Breakdown join the Autobots. Such potential...I wish it got a proper number of seasons, or at least a proper/compatible sequel series.

Anyway, Hasbro is doing a TF x Hot Topic collab with Optimus and Bumblebee necklaces. Very cute imo. Might get some for myself and my neighbors kids. They can turn the necklaces into backpack charms.

A family friend of mine has a little boy who is IN LOVE with TF now, particularly Prime, G1 and RID15. I let him play with my cheaper figures while he tells me that he's best friends with Optimus and Bumblebee, and how he helps them spy on Megatron. It's endearing, and reminds me that not all TF fans are troons on X cooming to gross fanart. I really don't understand the vitriol for kid fans, as I would prefer Hasbro to cater to them more (and with AGE APPROPRIATE media ffs)

I'm pretty sure G1, Animated, RID 2015, and Armada are good for kids. Prime is kind of on the fence, because that show does kill off people left and right. [RIP Cliffjumper, Skyquake, Dreadwing, and Silas]

Yeah, I'm talking regarding gender shit though. He dosen't blink at the one screen deaths. But I understand what you mean nontheless. (Though he cried a little when Optimus had his season 2 'death'. But he was at peace with Predacons Rising)

Original RID isn't bad for kids, first two parts of the Unicron Trilogy. Third part is a bit boring at time but still can be a decent watch for them. Cyberverse wasn't bad and arguably the last good show they released for the line. The toys were just terrible though. Ending was garbage too, but that's common for Transformers shows. Beast Wars is a good watch for kids that are 8 or older but I doubt Beast Machines will interest them.

Transformers has always had a good cartoon for kids, they just don't last long enough. Unlike other lines like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Original cartoon and the 200X show were a great watch. Thundercats not so much, early 80's first 24 episodes were good then it dropped from there. New cartoons weren't nearly as good. TMNT early 2000's cartoon was far far better than then late 80's cartoon and better than the 3D show but that still wasn't bad and still better than the 80's show.

Treds is looking pretty good. Going to have to get one to use as the GoBot and a few to give a wash for generic troops. Maybe sand one down and give a more realistic paintjob since I wont have to give it a base coat in white like I wold need to do with Warpath. May need to do some touch ups though for the mid section and treads as those should be a dark gunmetal
