I can get behind that tbh. It's not like the original's sound track needed fixing.

Duh. They changed it to be voice grunts akin to Undertale. Original text sounded fine.
just double checking, when the game isn't even out yet it's hard to know. stupid that it's changed at all, it was fine as the little block sound effect that they used for it and SPM. unnecessary but probably not game ruining for me.

NOOOO NOT MY HECKIN NINTODDLER GAMERINOOOOS!!!
IT'S SO OVER GUISE GOOBERGATE #4 NOW NOW NOOOOOOW!!!!
This but unironically. 20 year old bing bing wahoo children’s game should be the last thing subjected to transgender ideology.
Remakes are gay. Seems people did not learn from the Demons' Souls shit in 2021. (like what is happening with the RE remakes and the Spice and Wolf remake of this year)
There are three other Mario RPGs that all got decent remakes, so people expected that this would be the same way.

Speaking of Bridget, is it actually true that Bridget is supposed to be a girl from the start based on concept or did I read a pozzed information from Internet?
Bridget is a dude. His parents raised him as a girl because of some retarded superstition in the town they live in that twin boys would bring bad luck.

But you are correct in that it's simple for people supporting this to see the reaction as exactly the boogeyman they're looking for, since it's exceptionally easy to portray the people against this as just being mad a character is transgender, even when that isn't the crux of the issue. That's observedly already happening.

We're 10 years past the point of reasonable reactions. To paraphrase Null, it's time to be obnoxious, loud, and destructive.

If every online TTYD lover wrote careful, thoughtful, reasonable think pieces about the intricacies of Japanese culture, the boogeyman-seekers would still consider that validation of their "bigot" stereotypes. If a single person went on Twitter and objected, the same "OMG TRANSPHOBIA" articles would circulate with a screenshot of their tweet. If the people who care merely registered a polite complaint on a forum, some Community Manager janny would auto-respond with "I hear your concerns, we appreciate all our player's feedback, let's all get excited to consume next product!"

The era of polite discourse is over, we're fully in the outrage era, on both sides. Unilaterally declaring you're going to stop fighting a (culture) war does not gain you the (moral) high ground, it just marks you a loser and removes you from consideration.

It is time for companies to lose sales over their shitty translators inserting their shitty agendas. Arrows need to go down. Spreadsheets need to turn red. Anxious managers need to make lengthy excuses to explain why they missed estimates. If it takes unreasonable autism for that to happen, that's a good thing, actually. They were told representation was important for growing their customer base, they need harsh proof that it shrinks their audience, and they need it thrown in their face at every opportunity.

Everything is fake, everything is gay, everything is pozzed, and you have to point it all out to everyone all the time. That's how the assholes got their power, and that's how you take it away from them.

I really don't care to be honest. Trannies are dumb and I don't want them in my game, but if it's like 2 lines of dialogue in a poor localization in an era where bad tranny localization seems to be the norm then I can live with it.
15 years from now you'll see retranslations of games like this as hotly debated as the fan translations of games like shin megami tensei are debated today, and i can't wait for the shitshows.

I don't know if you're intentionally paraphrasing Anita Sarkeesian here or if it's just a funny coincidence but it's pretty spot on lol. That is in fact how they managed to ingrain themselves within every inch and nook of the industry.

To add on to this, a direct quote from the exact same person:

Stellar Blade’s petition is the largest outcry against censorship in recent memory, and it has so far failed to get Sony’s decision reversed. This failure highlights to me what I believe should be obvious: public outcry and petitions do not get things done. Money does. Whatever monied power convinced Sony to make these changes outweighs the perceived economic threat of gamers promising not to buy their game.

I'm not speaking sarcastically when I say this, even if it sounds like it: if you believe a hyperbolic or vitriolic reaction will convince more people to boycott or pirate the game, then keep that enthusiasm going. I'm saying just be aware of the potential consequences involved in how your opponents are reacting.

My fatigue of Current Year knows no bounds.

I guess I was too naive in thinking this remake would kickstart a revival of the old Paper Mario games. Now that this game has become mired in controversy, Nintendo will probably never touch this franchise again. All they had to do was copy and paste the script, and they wouldn't do it, even though they could have.

I will be highly encouraging people to seek out "advanced" copies wherever they can; at this point it's morally and ethically justified.

Is that image made up by journos in order to stir shit, or what is its context?
I'm not scouring hours of Jap let'splays of ancient games to confirm or debunk it, I watched just this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6850ujlOHDQ
and the """closest""" line is this:
1716386926160.png
which was previously translated to: "I'm not sure I really want to stay with my sisters anymore, anyway...", which is not 100% accurate, but good enough for a vidya translation.

There might be some other dialogues I haven't found yet, but again, I'm not going to search for them anymore until someone finds a video with that line so I can know the context and can search Japanese letsplays for the original line.

EDIT: Nevermind, I won't find that by watching Gamecube footage, Niggtendo added that line for the Switch version and Niggtendo America cranked it up even more:
These posts are claiming that some of Vivian's descriptions/dialogue got changed in JP Switch as well. Give inch, take mile.

GC: "One of the Three Shadows. Looks like a woman but is actually an effeminate man."
Switch: "One of the Three Shadows. Has a man's body but a woman's heart/mind/spirit." (So the "trapped in the wrong body" thing troons keep rambling about.)

Nintendo could release Miyamoto Takes A Shit in A Jewel Case and tendies would still buy it. If their Japanese autism has no problem with turning this character into a troon then there isn't much you can do.
I don't doubt that. Nintendo fanboyism, especially with such an old and nostalgic product, has been prevalent and unshakeable since the 90's. But that's a concern for the people trying to make a difference boycotting this game.

I shall play slight devil's advocate here, because I want to know how retarded this change is (I have never played this game)

Was Vivian a crossdressing man, because you couldn't say transgender in a 2004 video game, and it basically meant transgender, is it naoto retarded, where it actually changes the plot to appease the modern agenda, or is it Bridget levels of retard, where this character who's plot point that he was forced to be a girl due to traditional bullshit and breaking away from that, now totally a girl because TRA's have no definition of opsec?

I’ve always thought the “piracy is morally good!!!” argument was an extremely gay attempt to justify being a cheapskate, but it’s actually true in this case. If you pay Nintendo for this remake, you’re paying for the privilege of LGBT propaganda in a children’s game.

In the original Japanese script, it's basically a gag through juxtaposition. You have these three enemies, two are ugly, wicked, witchy women. Then there's the youngest, who's kind-hearted, cute, and eventually decides to join up and help you... but he's actually a guy. It's the kind of thing that only works in that particular cultural framing (you could probably tie it into kabuki with the whole game's theming as being on a stage in front of an audience.) So the original English localization just simplified it (intelligently) into Vivian being a girl, and the gag being that she's obviously the cutest of the three, but gets picked on for being "ugly."

Now the contemporary localization has this whole thing reframed as being some "I was a boy, but actually I'm a girl!" transgender junk and that being the impetus for the bullying, which is basically a total reversal of the character's original write-up. People will say, "Isn't that more accurate to the Japnese script?" but it's not. It was never that Vivian was born one way and felt he was actually something else. It was him trying to fit in with his sisters and then getting lambasted for it because he was so different from them by virtue of being good.
Yeah, its this kind of thing which annoys me the most about troons and their whiny boo-hoos all over popular media and black washing and that sort of shit.

They miss the context, in some cases it seems deliberate, take it personally because if it is not massive positive representation then it is offensive propaganda designed to upset and dehumanize them, as far as they are concerned.

A western example which springs to mind is Chandler Bing's father in Friends.
In this example, the joke actually is that his Father is quite a selfish person who chose a controversial career and lifestyle over the comfort of his family. Chandler didn't feel uncomfortable because his father was a drag queen, it was because his father was a thoughtless degenerate that put his own wants first.

Of course, any number of fucking formerly married Troons we cover here would be offended because that's essentially a description of their life, and again, unless they are discussed in super positive terms, its outright Transphobic Nazi Rhetoric.
