Standard Nintendo demake, but remember it could've been much worse.

It is a bit desaturated, but besides that it still looks pretty good. Thankfully mods exist if you prefer the colours to pop like in the original.

It's not bad but overall I'd say it's not as good as the original. The original clearly wasn't built with the current assets in mind. The new team is just reusing the TOK engine and assets. 30 fps is also a pretty solid downgrade.

Some parts look good so I'm willing to call it different but not NECESSARILY worse, but it's definitely not better and certainly much less consistent.

What the fuck is it with modern Devs and just absolutely destroying colour in games nowadays? God even makes me miss the brown on brown days of the 360. They take a pretty nice looking game and smack awful AA over it to blur the fuck out of it. Add volumetric fog fucking EVERYWHERE and it makes no sense half the time. All colour gets nuked so it looks depressing

No, it's pure laziness. They could have revamped their engine but they would rather use a Wii U cross-platform engine that runs like dogshit. They have zero excuses to release a game in this state.

I guess I was too naive in thinking this remake would kickstart a revival of the old Paper Mario games. Now that this game has become mired in controversy, Nintendo will probably never touch this franchise again. All they had to do was copy and paste the script, and they wouldn't do it, even though they could have.

The "story-based" Mario RPGs have been effectively been killed after Nintendo did a survey on Nintendo Club, where an insane percentage of people said that they didn't give a shit about the story aspect of Paper Mario. Then whoever was in charge of Paper Mario decided then to butcher up the franchise into the same cookie cutter completely uninspired New(TM) Super Flat Mario RPG niggerfest, god damn they're so retarded.

Yeah. With regard to the story, we did a survey over the Super Paper Mario24 game in Club Nintendo25, and not even 1% said the story was interesting. A lot of people said that the Flip26 move for switching between the 3D and 2D dimensions was fun.

I'm so tired. They completely shit themselves with the 3DS version and I never looked back.

Couldn't agree more. I finally got off my ass about emulation this year and there are so many amazing games that you can just have. Between Vimm's Lair and the Internet Archive, I've got more games than I'll ever have time to play. Handheld systems, consoles and especially the arcade bangers like Rampage.

RetroArch is free on steam and there's a good selection of emulator cores available as DLC (also free). When I wasn't sure or couldn't find a LibRetro core for the system I wanted, like Dreamcast or PS2, I just grabbed a standalone emulator from Vimm's Lair. I haven't had to fuck with hunting for console-specific bios files or anything. So far the most work I've had to do was manually mapping my usb gamepad to use in Dolphin so that I can enjoy un-pozzed TTYD.
