In the original I think it was less "You are a man and this is mean because you want to be a woman" and more that the abuse is basically a joke for the player because Vivian is the odd one out in every respect.

I think I'm hearing a pattern with what sucks about the new music - to me it feels like it's allergic to negative space. It's all too wall-of-sound-ish; not always to an extreme degree but they're filling the soundscape too much and the instruments get mushed together into noise soup. It doesn't help that some tracks have 5+ different flavors of synth.

It's the same experience I had when YT recommended me 8-Bit Music Theory's video extolling the virtues of Cynthia's theme, I forget which of the million pokemon games it was. I'm a filthy genwunner, sue me. This dude was breaking down all the different parts of the "battle" theme and how they're supposed to work together to sound threatening and alien and give energy to the battle... and I just do not see what this dude was waxing poetic about. Yes, all the elements he mentions are there. Yes, individually they theoretically function in the way he describes. When you put it all together though, it somehow feels like less than the sum of its parts. If I hadn't known better, I would've thought it was an okayish uptempo fan remix of the real battle theme.

It feels like we've hit a critical mass of... something in game music. FromSoft boss themes all have the big choir swell and it always sounds the same (they might even be reusing identical choir samples but I haven't tried to prove this), this new nintendo stuff all sounds laminated and sludgy, maybe I'm just being autistic and faggy but game music in recent years isn't doing anything for me*. Good thing they can't take the old stuff like Gitaroo Man.

*Risk of Rain 2 and its DLC are full of awesome music but that one is so obvious it's basically cheating

well i mean lets see the "small" thing theyre actually talking about. we have to accept nintendo, a well known publisher for little children to the point iirc their flagship mascot does not swear:

1. telling kids definitively that boys can actually be women
2. to tell them this in a way that lets be real wouldnt be noticed by any parent with a job no matter how protective without people looking out for this invasive shit
3. to let kids across the country hear as an undisputed fact "men can be women if they feel like it" from an source that parents wouldnt know they need to argue with since theyd likely be unaware their kids are being told that.
4. to accept this with absolutely no complaint and to give the company money to do it.

Perhaps it's this vain attempt at sounding "big" and "grand" that ends up leaving it a bit "meh" in the end. Had the exact same feeling when I listened to Bowser's Inside Story Remake's soundtrack.

Seriously, listen to the opening synth of both and tell me which one sounds WAY more impactful? I was gonna say maybe it's the limitless ability to make whatever tracks you want without having to deal with audio channels or whatever, but the GameCube and other consoles from that generation had good streamable music, so perhaps it's just composers getting lazy and throwing whatever "high quality" instruments they have without much thought into them? They could be forgetting the crucial guideline of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) and whether or not there NEEDS to be something added to a track to enhance it.

At the very least, Vivian as a character, despite what all the folks on Tumblr, Twitter, and TV Tropes love to focus on, is someone who isn't solely defined by her sexuality, nor is that really a selling point of the game, or heck, even all that focused on.

If you're going to include this sort of stuff, then that's more the way to do it, rather than making it the main selling point alongside shoving it in the player's face the whole time.

right on the money. a few lines in a game aimed towards the younger audience (I’m sure it’s mostly older millennials playing this but it’s still something that a kid would play) is way worse than an entire game being pozzed. it depicts this a seemingly unbiased and friendly way that a child responds to as an authority figure instead of as a joke on a more mature subject as was originally intended

That's a great example track; the original has a crisp breakdown section with the descending staccato line and the music building back up around it. That part of the remake doesn't have the same impact - the dynamics aren't quite right. There's extra instrumentation which can throw off the balance of soft vs loud but I think it's more a problem with the mixing. The remake version is also lacking that nice punchy attack from the synth bass that was in the original.

Maybe once I'm finished with TTYD I'll go and check out a few of the tracks from the remake version and see how they stack up.

The deal is that, believe it or not, Japan has different levels of trannyism.

The one Vivian coincides with is an Otokonoko (male-daughter); the closest thing to that in English parlance is fem-boy. That is a boy who knows they're a boy, but for whatever reason, dresses and presents as a female, and can generally get away with it if only due to soft features. The problem is trannyism has absorbed any and all deviations in the name of the retarded pink, white, and blue flag; especially with their idea that you can be whatever you say you are, just look at the "trans women are women" shit they scream about. Otokonoko, trans woman which is a real woman. A new-half (pre-op tranny with a dick), a true and honest trans (real) woman. The problem is how these people don't shut the fuck up, are hostile to anyone who thinks otherwise, and can't stop wiping their diseased ridden dick all over shit. If I had money to burn and knew I could find someone to not lie; I'd put money up and ask any of these retards what they remember about Paper Mario, dollars to donuts, everything around Vivian being a tranny is first in line, these people have no personality, interest, or hobby aside their disfunction.
