I'm a Gen Xer and I cosign spitting on my generation. In some way we're worse than the Boomers. We knew shit was fucked and that it all was fake, but the majority of us eventually just went with it and cashed out because we could. Honestly, if I wasn't such a goddamn autist I probably would have joined them. Being poor sucks, yo.
Late stage Gen X/early stage Gen Y-Millennial here.

Gen X, but particularly the hipster/pop culture obsessed breed of Gen Xer, are akin to Malcolm McDowell in Star Trek Generations. They consider the 90s to be the prime of civilization and culture and are among the most die hard "we all need to just put our heads in the sand and pretend it's 1996" types out there. And will gladly burn a thousand solar systems to ash and space dust to reopen the Nexus and go back to that golden age, even though the left has said and done too much beyond the pale shit to be able to do so given how much damage they've done and how far they've fucked shit up with their bullshit.

A long way back, someone in the thread (probably @Gehenna) ran the idea that the Biden staffers are LARPing the cast and culture of The West Wing. Now, I've been re-watching the show for a little bit, because it's still better than anything on TV today, and I've come to the conclusion that if President Bartlet was real and running in this election, he'd be treated as a literal factual nazi by those very same LARPers, despite being a good 90s democrat. He broadly supported free speech, stronger borders, law and order, restrictions on the TLAs, and economic liberalisation. On several occasions he went out of his way to proclaim that he wants to understand his opponents and not dismiss them, because he's "president of the united states, not president of the people who agree with me". He's politically closer to Donald Trump than most of these people would care to believe.

It's funny how things go that way.

Can we talk a little about this? In various right-leaning spaces I see what is, to my mind, a strange preoccupation with Michelle Obama being selected as the Democratic candidate, and I can't figure out where the hell that idea is coming from. While planning for a successor for Joe on short notice seems 100% a sensible move for the Democrats to make, given his obvious declining health, Michelle seems a terribly poor choice even for them. Assuming they decide to sideline Kamala, Newsom seems most likely to me as who they'd go with. I wouldn't rule out them calling up Hillary or a Squad member, either. Even DOCTOR Jill Biden, making a power play, seems at least semi-plausible. But Michelle has publicly professed a desire to avoid politics, and the Obamas have mostly avoided the limelight since 2016; she seems to me about as likely as being chosen by the Democrats as Bernie Sanders. What aren't I seeing?

Or is Michelle being picked just a mostly-jokey meme that I'm too 'tistic to catch on to?

It's based on two things:

1. Obama DESPERATELY wanting to stay in a position of power running the DNC from the shadows now that he's term limited out of ever holding the Presidency again. Especially after he had to basically pull a Game of Thrones style coup against the Clintons to ensure Biden (his proxy) got to be the Democrat President nominee in 2020. Since he can't run again, there is the idea of Obama might make his wife run again so he can use her as a more explicit proxy to get back into the White House for eight more years.

2. The paranoia from having to deal with Hillary Clinton, who clearly held political ambitions of her own and who saw her marriage as a stepping stone to power, combined with the infamous corrupt bargain the DNC power brokers made with Hillary where she promised to never divorce Bill in exchange for her being guaranteed the Presidency herself, as part of a larger Clinton Restoration scheme.

The later ignores that Michelle Obama has never shown any of the blind craven ambition that Hilary had along with the fact that Michelle has historically been known to be a lazy bitch and who has repeatedly stated that she entered the White House having a low opinion of white people and exited the White House eight years later wanting all white people dead. Meaning she won't be able to fake shit like her husband did to get the white voters if she ever ran for office, given how radicalized in her hatred she has become.

Confusing shit. It was Obama and the Pod Save America dick suckers that cosplayed as the Bartlett administration and treated the Obama Presidency as their chance to larp as West Wing (which Chapo Trap House did a big special on basically pointing out that it was one big Neoliberal shitshow where liberals in Hollywood larped a fictional third and fourth Clinton administration terms, as though the Lewinsky scandal never happened and Bill Clinton was allowed to publicly bitchslap George W Bush into losing by a landslide).

The Biden administration is basically "The Thick of It" complete with an utterly invisible and non-existent Malcolm Tucker trying to tard wrangle everyone while trying to keep all traces of his existence a secret because even he is embarrassed at working in the Biden administration.

That show, like 30 Rock and Will & Grace, is nothing more than masturbation for liberal elites, and isn’t reflective of any kind of real administration. It’s idealized to make liberals feel good. Sure, liberal policies from that era seem a lot more sensible than the ones now, but let’s not kid ourselves that left-wing policy has ever been anything other than batshit insane since FDR took office.

A long time back I wrote about how absurd the idea that Trump is just a 90s Democrat is. I won’t reiterate it other than to say that opinion generally comes from people who weren’t alive during Clinton’s admin or were too young to remember it.

Replace 30 Rock with Studio 90, as 30 Rock could be subversive as hell when they wanted to (which is funny, as 30 Rock only existed because Lorne Michaels found out that Sorkin was doing a SNL show and was terrified that Sorkin would shit on him and SNL, so he got Tina Fey to leave SNL to star in 30 Rock so that it would be the SNL approved SNL parody show that ended up being way more critical than Studio 60 was of SNL and NBC/General Electric).

90s Democrats were key to push the Assault Weapons Ban, and were keen to crack down on "dangerous militia", and were signing NAFTA into place.

They just look better because of careful PR and retcons by media and political class. Like how they have whitewashed the Video Game Panic of the early 90s to be a "right wing conservative boomer evangelical" thing when Joe Liebermann, Al Gore and Hillary Clinton were all key figures on that shit show.

The Uniparty has been a thing for a long time. And growing, like a tapeworm in the guts of America. I think it helps to think of a analogy that has gotten quite popular here in Brazil when it comes to describing them: "Theater of Scissors"

Basically this term comes from the early 20th century Russian Workers Social Democrat Party, when they eventually split into Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. At first glance these two groups were enemies and in fact most people still think of them like that, specially later on the Russian Civil War. But that isn't the case. They were both socialist movements and both agreed on most things, the only real difference is the Bolsheviks wanted a violent revolution while the Mensheviks thought they would reform and industrialize Russia peacefully and make it socialist in peace.

Both had the same objective. They merely disagreed on tactics. Like the two blades of a scissor, they seem opposite but work together to clamp down and cut towards a common goal.

Meh this CIA shit won't fly, it will be just like the Panama Papers, where we found out a huge chunk of American politicians are hoarding funds to the point of illegality out of the reach of the IRS.

What happen? Nothing, the MSM dropped it next day and it was forgotten in a week because the average Joe has the IQ and attention span of a goldfish so the elites went right back to it.

Same will happen to this kerfuffle, no one will care in a week and the spooks and their masters will go right back to work doing the same thing.

Plus don't forget what happened to the reporter who did the expose on the Panama Papers. FYI she was killed by a car bomb and it was hardly even mentioned by the MSM or even investigated so I'd get get some nice life insurance if I was theses people cause they just pissed in the wrong peoples cereal.
That's a possibility but I won't discount the impact of these papers too much. There was a massive backlash against Elon Musk acquiring twitter for a reason (not to mention the question of why Elon did it) and I believe these papers highlight it. I don't doubt that Musk values his government contracts but I'm pretty sure he disdains the glowies and he intervened specifically because he knew something about what they were doing and he hated it.
