Me? Just based on what is known publicly and is being reported by Aaron, I think it would be the best thing for the children if both of them lost custody and none of the children are forced to interact with this fucked up bitch until they are adults and can freely make those choices for themselves.
Its really bad and hard for the kids to never have contact with parents again (this is why suicide, even for a complete fuckup, is such a chickenshit way out). One of them is SIX! She doesn't know shit about what's going on, but if she can live with grandma and see mommy and daddy now and then, she might be ok. Certainly better off than "parents disappeared forever, was it my fault?"
Mandatory Reporters protocol will depend on their job or agency. Schools will have a different reporting path then police or EMS for example. Who in turn may be different than Medical Providers.
The other thing about mandatory reporting is that the reality on the ground is you report where you could be blamed for not reporting. You're a teacher at a school and notice a child beat to shit? You report it. Same teacher, at a grocery store, overhears something? You ignore it and move on. This is the reality of how it works.
Home school kids still need to be evaluated and tested each semester and school year. Which would be the past 2 weeks or so. So the kids would be in contact with Mandatory Reporters who only see them a few times a year. Big changes in behavior etc are more likely to be noticed, because the evaluators don't see the kids every day, and don't see the gradual progression of the family. They see Nick and Kayla jump from nice couple to Crack Whores overnight.
These kids aren't "really" homeschooled - they're co-op'd which normally means one parent teaches one subject to them, and they move around. But whether that makes each parent a mandatory reporter; I don't know. Certainly the clergy and other kid-adjacent official positions would be.

... Would a lawyer be a mandated reporter? Like say, one handling a lawsuit against Nick who might have been sent a stream where he's very obviously blackout drunk and doing cocaine with kids in the house on?

No, a mandated reporter is generally someone who works with kids specifically.
It depends on what the lawyers job/employer is. DA's office has the obligation to kick child related things over to CPS or get them in the loop. (And CPS has the obligation to kick certain criminal things to the DA/LE) Same with PD, EMS and Fire, and most clinical medical/Healthcare people.

Mandatory reporters are generally government employees or those who carry government issued credentials or licenses. Dr's, Nurses etc.
