This a legit question to my burger friends: why is storing your Sig Sauer under the bed a bad thing? I seem to recall many times many people bitching about the stupidity of gun safes, because in a home defense situation you want your firearm as soon as possible. Of course, there's the "the kids might blow your/their brains out" thing, and the loose ammunition, but then what is the proper way to store it in a way that wouldn't be an aggravating factor yet still be optimal for home defense?
Just a lockbox by the bed is sufficient if you're not a waste of space junky like Nick, but the most important thing if you have kids is to teach them gun safety.

Its the fact he's been busted for drugs and he has firearms and ammo just laying around.
Without the drug charges theres nothing wrong with having it under the bed per se, as long as you don't have really young kids and they don't have access to that room.
I have a gun room where I have all my shit for 3 Gun and my reloading bench and stuff, thats code locked and I have a key in case the power is out, and theres another safe in there.
For home defense, if I'm awake I have my Sig on my belt, at night its in a hidden compartment under the bedside table that flips down if you know where the switch is.
I also have other firearms strategically placed in similar hidden emergency stashes all around the house.
You can get hidden gun racks that just look like normal shelves but with a hidden button that flips down and you can keep an AR and a pistol in there. When the compartment is up it just looks like a shelf.
You can also get concealed safes that are built into the wall and you'd never know they were there.
My hunting stuff is just on a wall rack in the kitchen.
I don't keep that loaded.
The most important thing with kids is you teach them.gun safety from an early age, you teach them to respect the tool.
I also don't keep ammo anywhere but my safe apart from my emergency home defense stuff, and I keep chamber flags in all my firearms so I know they're safe at a glance.

Wasn't he pulled over on 51st street while the warrant was being served at his home?
He didn't literally hide behind his daughter and peak out from between her legs. I'm sure he would have, given the opportunity.

She answered the door. On the other side of the door, her father and the police with their warrant. Her father refused to provide the code to open the door, preferring the cops to kick the door down and enter the house. Some folks consider that to be an unpleasant and potentially traumatic experience for the kids inside, one that could have been avoided if Balldo wasn't a contemptible creature unwilling to face the consequences of his actions.

She’s probably seen Goodfellas and didn’t want to be Karen.

I think she probably thought Nick would somehow prevent the cops from coming in. She’s married to law pope after all there’s no way cops with a warrant would be able to just enter their house if Nick told them no.

I seriously think Kayla thought Nick would magically stop it all. I don’t think she understood that all of Nick bullshit magic evaporated with a warrant in hand.

Also, cops and judges know when they are dealing with a lawyer to get all their ducks in a row. They were smart to nab Nick outside and leaving Kayla the shot caller in the house. Nick would have gotten that 25 grams down the toilet in seconds.

The fact Nick didn’t have Kayla prepped for a knock at the door like that just shows his arrogance. Even low level druggies have a “plan” in place in the event there is a cop at the door. The amount of coke, and other drugs, should have meant all adults knew the drill if a cop showed up at the door. Nick was to strung out and arrogant for the most basic precautions.
To be fair, not having the family open the door was a degree of preparation. Bad preparation, but not immediately giving access suggests they had some sort of family talk at some point.

We need a shop of Nick behind Darrell's boxes.

Not my best work, but it is funny. I used his mugshot btw.

There's a certain age (toddlers) where you can't really teach firearm safety, but once they're old enough to learn not to play with everything they get their hands on, you can teach them either a) don't touch (sub-optimal) or b) proper firearm handling (what every parent should do).
At least in my own extended family, everyone I consider a responsible gun owner has taught both their sons and daughters how to handle guns and even taken them hunting if they wanted to.

Since people have been discussing the children, it seems relevant to note that the charges regarding the kids are different between Nick and Kayla. The other two charges/penalties for drugs and firearms are identical.

Just something to keep in mind going forward.
Feeling a little dead inside over the fact that doing something like that is only a misdemeanor.

He probably buys it off TOR and then distributes it to his swinging friends. I doubt he was actually dealing for money purposes at least.
He follows drug dealer niggers and nigger prostitutes on Instagram. Most strippers/whores can find anything you are looking for. Most whores are into drugs so logically you can ask them where to find it. If you tip well enough or offer to share they will put you in contact with their dealer, or middle it for you. If they middle it expect that they will overcharge or pinch and cut it with baby laxatives/shark cartilage.

“Hey baby you make fuck? I’m looking to party, do you know where to find “party favors” (long exaggerated wink)?”

Whether Fischer remains the judge or not*, she's not going to risk her reputation and livelihood over some drugged-out embarrassment (I know folks have said she was vindictive to one of his 28 clients because she didn't like Nick, but I'd love to see evidence (even lowercase-e evidence, not legal-grade evidence) of her overstepping her discretion and applying unreasonable punishment to a criminal, or even gave a higher-than-average punishment, with nothing to do with the facts or the actual quality of representation).
She literally explicitly sentenced a defendant to a harsher sentence because she took a plea bargain and was represented by counsel.
“You didn’t even plead guilty to all the things you were accused of. You have not taken full responsibility, but you will,” Fischer said before pronouncing the sentences.

I consider that an incredibly irresponsible statement.

She also partly based the sentence on the fact that the defendant dared to be represented by counsel.

Also, cops and judges know when they are dealing with a lawyer to get all their ducks in a row. They were smart to nab Nick outside and leaving Kayla the shot caller in the house. Nick would have gotten that 25 grams down the toilet in seconds.
I thought the same thing. It seems too serendipitous to be a coincidence that he just happened to turned left out of his driveway and was driving south down the road as they were heading to execute the search warrant.

Yeah, my money is on the "physical" rather than "sexual" part, especially if Aaron's whole thing about Kayla being physically violent is true. I wonder if the physical abuse was being perpetrated by the children against one another if that would be covered by this instead. It's still extremely concerning and upsetting even in a best case scenario.
Again, neither of the charge descriptions mention sexual or physical abuse and in fact both of the charge descriptions are identical. Not really sure what's going on.

yeah but the charge specifically mentions 'physical or sexual abuse' which hits quite a bit harder than just neglect
The statute Kayla is charged under does. The charge description for both Kayla and Nick are identical and only mentions drugs

Charge Description: On or about May 23, 2024, in the County of Kandiyohi, Minnesota, Defendant who is a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker endangers the children's person or health by knowingly causing or permitting the child to be present where any person is possessing a controlled substance in violation of Minn. Stat. 152.021, 152.022, 152.023, 152.024, or 152.0262.
