Cops can't lie about having a warrant. They can lie about a lot of stuff, including having evidence, but they explicitly cannot lie about having a warrant. The police are going to come in one way or another, and there are no (legal) penalties for making the cops do their jobs. This is totally different from disobeying a lawful order in the heat of the moment.

Maybe I phrased my post wrongly. It's not the legally correct thing to do; it's a tactically appropriate thing to do considering potential legal arguments in the future. The police are going to get in one way or another, whether you're there or skipping town to take a vacation in Moldova. If you open the door for them, it might foreclose potential tactical decisions in the future. An attorney should be aware of that, because their main focus is minimizing liability of their client.

3. Try to get the entry code from Nick, he refuses

5. They bring Nick to the residence and show him the search warrant, he throws it on the floor

Maybe they showed him a copy of the search warrant during the traffic stop, but if they did, it isn't detailed in the report.

You say this without any understanding of what was said or heard. None of us know the truth, what we do know is that Nick and his wife are addicts. The sort of people who would try to smuggle drugs into jail via their prescriptions, despite the fact this could only make things worse.

Addicts can only help themselves, and until the government steps in they will continue to have custody of their kids. I think Nick genuinely has deluded himself as to how bad things are, not just for him, but by extension the kids.
