Best class(es) to play as?

The only thing that I dislike is about this game, or specifically about this community is how there's a good chunk of people wanting to make this game more competitive, repetitive and soulless by disabling random crits, nerfing or outright changing the main mechanics of some of the classes and making chat and decals more strict and moderated.
In my eyes, this game was never meant to be a competitive title. I have always seen this game as an fps shooter where everything can happen. Where the dumbest set of items and tactics can still win you the game. But I guess that's just how multiplayer video game communities overrun by zoomers work nowadays, I guess.
This isn't a zoomer issue, the greedy fucks at Valve saw how much money CS:GO and DOTA 2 were generating off competitive and wanted to milk TF2 even more. So, they got in contact with the top retards, asked what they'd like to see in competitive TF2, realized that they want half the game deleted in the name of balance because they're retarded, got frustrated and pushed out a half broken update because they couldn't be bothered to deal with their bullshit anymore.
The ""people"" who actually want TF2 to be more competitive are an insignificant minority, they only get boosted everywhere because players have been brainwashed by TF2 youtubers to believe that official competitive can thrive without significantly affecting the casual experience (it can't)

I still remember the old matchmaking UI and how there were literally less than 20 players queuing for competitive on weekends just a few months after release

their rise to "fame" is mostly two-fold, the first part is because people misunderstand and apply a reasoning present in any game with a ranking system, people see competitive as coordinated + max performance vanilla game with some bans here and there, or step up above casual gameplay with the addition of a title that sounds nice to the ears, so youtubers can put that on themselves and people worship them and/or their opinions harder.

and as far as i know, no big youtube figure outside of maybe zesty has made an effort in specifying that any of the major competitive gamemodes are completely different worlds from the vanilla game, because if they were to specify it to a mostly braindead or uncaring audience what it means to play 6v6 or 9v9, they maybe would realize that the opinions that would get offered would be worth jackshit, so go figure.

If ZestyJesus is wrong about the player counts then what is the actual "real" number of genuine human beings playing TF2? You seem to understand the situation better or at least have some hidden knowledge that isn't accounted for in the video. At least that's the claim you're making in the thread. This isn't a "gotcha" thing or anything I genuinely want to know what you think the true genuine number is because even if the man is a total charlatan, the analytics from Steam are still not accurate enough to get a definitive answer.

As of writing this comment, there appears to be an average of 65,413 people in-game from the past 24 hours, and according to Zesty that number is more like 15K to 20K. So a more accurate figure in your eyes would be around 40k to 50k?

In the comments under his video he does provide a link to the data he used:
https://github.com/megascatterbomb/tf2PlayerCount

So either you or somebody more adapted can pick it apart to find any faults and then report back to us if one so wishes.

Side note: I always love it when data or other statistical matters are being discussed online it always gets people the most heated in debate even more than politics sometimes because you have those who think their math is 100% solid and impervious to faults. Their qualifications usually consist of a high school honors calculus class they took a few years ago.
I like to believe that the 15k-20k real player estimate is VERY generous and that the real playerbase is realisitically under 10k. It makes Megascatterbombs grift seem even more futile and makes the tranny game look abandoned.

The Scorch Shot would be a lot less reviled if it didn't have the second shot/stun/explosion combo, but at the same its a necessary evil to keep Snipers permanently ass raped so they can't hit shit. Then if they get out the danger shield then they're available for a backstab.
I still play TF2 and to be completely honest with you, I still find it fun to play.
Even when being dead and full of bots, it's still has some good moments.
And I'm saying this while strictly playing only on casual servers and on official mvm.
It's the only online game that I know where you can say the most deranged shit in chat without being banned, while pissing off half of the server that you're playing with.
It's the only game where you can set any image from your computer on a cosmetic, and I mean ANY, without being banned.
The freedom of expression and the fact that the community of this game is so divided and how there's a lot of varied opinions about how this game should be played is so fucking special to me.

Even though we are beating a dead horse at this point, I wouldn't mind this game staying alive, at least for 5 more years. I am still having fun here.
Thank you for reading my blog post.
I'm all for keeping fun weapons and reverting the Amby/Sandman among other things because I think pro autism has killed the game's fun, but wanting random crits is just contrarian faggotry. They're not fun even for casual play. The game shouldn't cater to autists who want to make Quake 2.0 but it shouldn't be lowest common denominator garbage either.
On some other news, here's a GreatBlue video with, in my humble opinion, the dumbest possible fucking opinion:
"Pyro is the weakest class"

Has this nigger ever heard of what a Detonator is? It gives you mobility, damage, and the ability to harass Snipers as well.

don't forget the knockback of it, for the sin of being on fire, you will be thrown to the other side of the room, another issue with the scorch is the fact that it puts unnecessary shade to his other secondaries (except the reserve and the gas passer, they desere all the shade they can get), why put an effort in using his secondaries when you can just go "hahaha scorch flares go brrrt"

but also the issue with sniper and fire is that he can simply lol at it, if he's an actual sharpshot he can just bodyshot/headshot you or whoever is in his sights and move on to do whatever, a simpler solution would've been to just make it impossible to scope in while under the effect of any DOTs, but alas them's the breaks.

the paradox here is that the amby nerf was absolutely not wanted by good players, like the dead ringer it was made to appease pubs, because (as again) the diamondback got left untouched and look at how it ended up, sandman was made to appease everyone, since it's a fundamentally flawed weapon, you give control back to players and leave everything else? nobody wants to use it anymore, you revert it to how it was? it becomes miserable to fight against (and let's not even start with the guillo combo).

two examples that i can think of weapons that were made to appease 6v6lets are the G.R.U and the eviction notice, the only reason they whined about their existence is because of a faster heavy at the start of a game, he reaches mid faster, and the game becomes slower because there's not enough players to silence an heavy, the nerf happens and these two weapons end up being still banned in 6v6 because lol.

or for a not-pvp example to explain how you don't listen to redditors, i can bring the fact that in mvm there was once the ability to inspect other player upgrades, but because shitters malded at the fact that players judged them for their dogshit choices + the excuse of "meta"fags shitting and pissing their pants when people wanted to play in a different (but still reasonable) manner, it got removed for anyone that isn't in your friend list, making it unnecessarily harder to assist any players that have doubts on their choices, and even harder to understand if someone is intentionally shitting your game.

the general issue is that it's a game of extremes here, you either get youshitters that shill comp gameplay and players, or you get reddit-tier shitters that masturbate at le quirky and funny gameplay that has memes and epic randomness (spread included, why people piss themselves on this i will never understand, it makes shotguns better for everyone) that allows mouth-breathing retards to *not* play the game and still change the game because le casual gameplay bro.

The good thing about it is that it not only fucks up their aim but they have to go for a health pack as soon as possible, or any sort of damage will usually kill them. It usually leaves enough time to close in or do a push. Also fuck Snipers on Payload, especially that piece of shit map Upward.

yesn't, but if god forbid there's an active team near that sniper then this happens:

  1. could be very reasonable to expect that the medic heals him, there's a dispenser near his position or the pyro extinguishes his ass and he gets back in action seconds later
  2. even if the sniper drops dead shortly after, it's not highlander, it's very possible that there's other snipers that can simply remove the downtime of the dead sniper and keep on defending/attacking
  3. a dead sniper/s doesn't ensure a push because if the area is so entrenched (ex. 2nd point of badwater with multiple engies), the snipers end up being the cherry on top of it, you still have to deal with the rest of the team.
Also fuck Snipers on Payload, especially that piece of shit map Upward.
i like upward though....

I mean its fun if you want to duel chea- I mean experienced Snipers who wont let you leave spawn while they have a sentry, dispenser, and pyro connected through a pipe system to their asshole.

The other payload maps are just as bad though, its just that Upward has far shittier spawns.

can't comment on this, because all i see this map for is building as attack engi mostly, first spawn is cancer to setup in mostly because it's too open and everything can nullify my buildings from the higher and lower cliffs, the safest place to set up on the second point is on top of the cliff, and it's cancer because there's no safe ammo packs in the vicinity + demos will have a LOT of fun spamming the cliff itself, past the third the spawns are fine and actually manageable.

What's wrong with the reserve shooter? Other than the hidden stat of inducing PTSD flashbacks on older players it really isn't that good or annoying to deal with
flawed weapon that should never had any business with him, ignoring back when the mini-crits were triggered by just being mid-air (so utterly retarded it doesn't need an explanation) the only way to trigger knockback on enemy players is to airblast, it was (not surprisingly) shown to be complete aids to fight against puff-and-sting pyroes, so it got nerfed three times in a row:
  1. it doesn't mini-crit on airblast
  2. the switch speed being nerfed, shared with the degreaser, which means that the swap speed bonuses became irrelevant
  3. the panic attack getting reworked and ending up with a switch speed on par of the old reserve
it ended up meaning that this weapon became completely worthless on pyro, and also meant that soldier had it nerfed as well (someone who can get more use out of it) for no real reason.

I'm retarded and just got my entire tf2 inventory scammed.
Long story short, some guy wanted to trade but said he couldn't see my steam inventory no matter what, so we settled on me uploading my stuff to that mannco store website, and this faggot had an exact replica steam account of the trade bot save for the year joined (same number same everything? I guess he has another 1000+ just depending on which bot it was that sends the trade??), and somehow sent in the trade before the actual bot.

Idk where else to ask this since people don't gaf or even see my posts on any other platform, sorry.
But yeah, what do I even do now. I deleted the game since I have nothing on it now, and I've been too miserable to even reinstall it. I dread trying to play again and get years worth of items and personalized stuff back. I never spent much money on the game because I'm poor, but I'd say a collective of $40-$70 total over the past years on various weapons or cosmetics and stuff.
I'm retarded, clearly, I'm well aware of how stupid my mistake was to trust some random freak and how I practically deserved to get my shit taken,, but I'm focused on moving forward now. I assume maybe some of you had advice or any kind of motivation to start the grind all over. Especially cause I share like a third of all my hours with my little brother, who convinced me to get the game in the first place, a lot of the items I spent real money on were gifts for him to use and make his own loadouts with..

OR is this a blessing and should I leave the game for good.

But yeah what do I even do now.
You can try submitting a ticket to Steam Support, or through the community tab as it recommends, but I'm not familiar enough with the process regarding it on TF2 scams to know how it works. If you've got any saved evidence like screenshots of what happened, you might be able to send those along. The text says they don't return items, but I'm fairly sure I've heard of people getting stuff back, and that it's mostly there to prevent he said/she said issues with trading and "I totally got ripped off, I should've sold it for more," rather than getting your stuff jacked entirely.
I was scammed.PNG
Other than that, I suppose your two choices are either using this as an opportunity to start over fresh and approach the game in the way a brand new player might (hell, do some recording and upload it on Youtube as one of those "100 days of X" challenges that are popular these days and you might get some big views), or use it as a clean break and set the game aside to focus on other things. Maybe you can come back to it in a few years when the wound isn't as fresh and rekindle your enjoyment rather than having a bitter taste in your mouth.

I’ll be perfectly honest $40-70 of items is not worth this much stress and contemplation over. It’s not like you got scammed out of some god-tier unusual or rare stranges. A McJob can net you enough to cover replacing what you lost in a day and have change for some lime paint.

Take this in the nicest possible way but just consider it a lesson learned and move on, cuz a bunch of coloured polygons on your characters head going missing isn’t worth rage quitting forever.

Steam will not reimburse you.

The answer is you're fucked man. In the meantime if you want you can check backpack.tf and see who's inventory they ended up in and track the particular items. A bunch of trades in quick succession to different accounts is the scammer funneling the items to his personal account. Chances are hes just gonna sell them straight from whatever account he used though. Sorry.

I don't know if this got posted here already, but... thought I'd go ahead and post it here. Seems fitting given the current state of the game:

I have this saved in my music playlist for when I play TF2. :story:

Editing cause it's worth it: Turns out there is some mild "drama", rather a schism, that came with this little parody. The creator of the parody linked has asked people to not make AI covers. A Russian didn't not read, nor does he care about that memo lol. I love seeing people get fussy over memes they create.

the #saveTF2 hashtag on twitter is happening again. tbh the only way the bots would end is if the bot developers got doxxed. Valve abandoned the game and I’m surprised people still have faith that they’ll do something about it,

Jeez, I'm sorry nigga, but that isn't coming back. I lost a shotgun that a friend gifted to me years ago like a dumbass to a similar scam, thankfully it was just one key and I'm no longer friends with him, but its a thing that only happens once in your life at least.
